What game are you wasting time on?

Victoria, Hearts of Iron 2 Doomsday and several mods(including the Fallout one), Crusader Kings and Silent Hunter 4 with OM are the only games that make me feel good at wasting time with right now.

Once in a while unrealsp.org comes up with news of user-made UT99 single player mappacks too to remind me of the the lost age of good FPSes.

But anyway, JA2 is fucking awesome. No, wait, it's Fucking Awesome. Needed some proper incline after all the next-gen garbage I played lately.

Are you saying that GROM is next-gen popamole?

GROM doesn't count 'cause I didn't play it lately. It simply never leaves my HDD :smug:

Bionic Commando Rearmed: This is what a proper remake should be like. Rebuild the core of the original, make it prettier, and add new elements that fit well with the old gameplay. The only thing I haven't liked about it so far is the nasty amounts of bloom/HDR seen in outdoor areas.

Worms Reloaded: This is what a sequel/update should NOT be like. The amount of removed or dumbed-down content compared to Armageddon is staggering. I guess maybe you could enjoy it for what it is if you limit yourself to play it with the "zooks & nades only" mode? The new team customization options, game modes, and weapons are fine, though not nearly enough in quantity or quality to make up for all the lost stuff. I guess nothing better was to be expected from a developer that switched from developing primarily for PC to developing console-centric multiplatform mediocrity.

FINALLY finished Fallout Tactics. It got more fun in the last third or so (after the supermutants), but I am unimpressed. It's not a bad game, but it's not terribly good either, and is conclusive proof that iso+TB does not a good Fallout make. (though the TB is kinda broken by some RT mechanics carrying over to the first round)

Played the new Medal of Honor. I congratulate it for being completely popamole without even having sticky cover (achievement unlocked!). Every single char you play also suffers from massive cutscene stupidity: EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM gets ambushed/injured/whatever at one point or another. By the 3rd time I was grumbling. Some pretty scenery, some nice set pieces, completely linear levels (unsurprisingly), objectives that get given then completed in the same cutscene... the whole thing's pretty consoletard. A good way to waste a few hours though. I must admit I was impressed by the sheer size of some of the levels - didn't know consoles could handle them.

Fallout. I'm playing character based on M.D. Geist and I'm killing guards/policemen for sports.
Junktown, The Hub and Adytum is a police-free zone. I'm still a champion, though O_o .
Also, I killed the Brotherhood of Steel.
Fucking Power Inflation and 95% eyeshots. Even increasing level-up costs didn't help.

Fast Shot, problem solved.

I have to say, having finally tried aimed shots (with the recruits in FOT) I don't understand what the fuss is about. Eyeshots don't always register as criticals, and even when they do they're not as damaging as a well placed burst. Besides, Fast Shot + Bonus RoF means THREE minigun bursts per round - and honestly, who could say no to that?

Or at least that's what I intend to play once exams are over.

Planning to start a new RPG as well. Got Dark Sun, Gothic 1-2 and IWD1-2 on the backlog with the latter two removed from inventory.

I tried for 5 minutes and my faith in humanity decreased accordingly. Have I any reason to give it another shot if I find the animu wankery overwhelmingly bad?

In Fallout 1 burst fire is effective only from point-blank range. On the other hand, with 100+ points in Small Guns you can score eyeshots from tens of hexes away.
Eyeshots not often leading to death/blindness only adds insult to injury - after all, there's a fucking 95% chance to hit, it should influence critical chance FFS.

If you put points into any combat skills, you probably won't get any big problems. The reportedly nonworking builds are probably ones without any combat skills, making such a build in any rpg never made much sense to me.

Did you decide against Deadly Premonition, Blobert? If not, I'm really looking forward to hear what you think of it; it seems to have largely slipped by unnoticed here.

And with 100+ points in Big Guns you can frag anyone with a minigun from ten hexes away too. Multiple anyones in fact.

"Burst fire at close range only" applies when your skill is <50, but at that point eyeshots will never hit either.

Eyeshots not often leading to death/blindness only adds insult to injury - after all, there's a fucking 95% chance to hit, it should influence critical chance FFS.
Wait, you were complaining that eyeshots are TOO powerful one post ago, and now you're complaining they're not powerful enough? :?

I wouldn't play the Fallouts for the combat. The lack of control over your companions really breaks it for me...

Faces Of War

What's your opinion on Faces of War? I remember trying it out but could never really get into it. There was just something about the controls that made it feel awkward. I loved Men of War, though, which was micro-heavy sometimes (which I enjoyed, gave me lots of freedom), so I'm thinking that maybe I should give FoW a second try. The way you control the guys is kinda unique after all, so maybe I just didn't spend enough time on it.
