I've played both of them in Genesis era. Never completed them though.
Thought while I wait for BBLE I may as well correct that. Considering that now I have an easy access to a superior PC versions which I didn't have at the time.
(Well ok EWJ2 for PC has Lorenzo's Soil cut out what the fuck)

what are the controls like?

I loved earthworm jim as a kid and have fond memories of the cartoon as well.

How did I manage to play and even complete arcades on Genesis 15 years ago?

I wonder this myself, ghouls 'n ghosts and Chakan: forever man fucked my ass when i last tried them.

Gamepad is a must.
Fortunately DOSBox supports gamepads - just plug one and play.

I couldn't find a way to rebind default DOSBox control associations for it though. Also DOSBox uses left stick instead of D-Pad for directions.

So I used XPadder to adjust gamepad controls.

Am close to finishing ironman run of Fallout 1 at the moment. The game is still freakin amazing, nothing comes close to the dread atmosphere of the Glow, one of the best locations in video games ever IMO.

Will probably replay the 2nd one after I'm done.Despite all the silly stuff in it I still think Fallout 2 is a great game in its own right and has many improvements over the the original-vastly better NPC followers system, much better balance between weapon groups(unlike the 1st one in which turbo plasma rifle raped any other weapon out there by a long shot),bigger world, better karma system, some small improvements in interface etc. Shame it went overboard with lulzy stuff and never matched the mood and coherent setting of the original which will always remain a superior game because of it.

Just finished playing Dark Sun : Shattered Lands. Very nice game ! The player is given plenty of freedom, the many diverse encounters are interesting and well-designed, the combat is not excessive and the desertic world looks cool.

I followed the advice found on the 'dex (making my PCs fighters/psionicists/X, focusing on Ego Whip and Mass Domination,...). It worked well and I didn't have much trouble with the fights until the end.

The first of the last three fights was a real bitch (took me at least 10 tries). The second one, fortunately, allowed me to regain lost HP (thanks to my duplicated life-stealing swords). And I won the last one by entangling my opponents in web spells, bombarding them with fireballs and ice storms, then sending my half-giant with Free Action to slaughter the survivors.

You did the first one? I thought everyone just asked for the Genie's help to bypass that.

Second and third fights were gold, though, awesome finale. Second was a bit easy, and I managed to heal up via the genie between them, but the final battle was still a hectic, frantic struggle to web them up, disable and beat them down before Mastyrials ate me. Great fight.

I feel your pain.

Wise choice.
DS itself sucks, big time. I thought it could be a midly amusing, brainless timesink, but it is a LONG game (took me over 40h), extremely repetitive and very, very boring.
Lazarus, however, is very, very awesome for too many reasons to succintly list.
Also, in before Silellak :smug:

I always get a warm fuzzy feeling when I read about someone playing SL for the first time and loving it. I wish the game got all this love at release.

Nah, everyone uses all 3 wishes to deck everyone with El's Drinkers, didn't you read our discussion of VoD's review? ;)

The final battle is indeed awesome. I always skip the first one, I don't think I ever did it in fact. 2nd one's easy, 3rd one's a blast. It's pretty obvious the 2nd one's there only to slow you down and make you waste a couple of spells that you should be saving for the 3rd one. Though you could ask the genie to heal you, this means you lose on yet another duplication... but I usually do that anyway, so I only get one duplication and have to choose between Terror Blade and El's Drinker. Tough choice.

I mistakenly believed the fight that could be avoided was actually fairly easy, so I asked the genie to duplicate El's Drinker. :)
Besides, it was an interesting challenge.

As I said, the second fight actually helped me (by permitting my PCs to easily restore their HPs). I just had to take care of the psionicists and defilers quickly.

The third one was much harder, but the web spells stopped the enemies until the end (even though the fight lasted for a long while, the webs didn't disappear). None of the enemies were able to pull themselves free (unlike the rampagers of the first fight) and their arrows weren't much trouble, so I had all the time I wanted to wear at them with spells (unfortunately, Mass Domination didn't work against them). In the end, my half-giant with Free Action, high strength, high HPs and vampiric regeneration simply had to enter the webs and kill the survivors.

I'd like to retry that fight without the web spells, but I suspect it'll be too hard.

All the elite guards managed to pull free of my webs after a turn or two, which was an unwelcome surprise. Fortunately, a couple of walls of fire did the job quite adequately.

I want to continue the party into Ass of the Ravager, but I'm not sure it'll ever have any moments that live up to that battle :(

If you can look past the bugs and the more generic MQ, Ravager has some good moments. The big fight under the mines (not gonna spoil it) is tons of fun, even though you get yet ANOTHER annoying bug down there. The volcano's a tense moment too: you're on a timer, and there are lots of draxans to fight, as well as a logic puzzle to go through (with extra Neat Items if you take the longer, more difficult path). There's even a murder mystery to solve! pretty refreshing since the game is otherwise more combat-intensive than SL. Even the final fight's fun, though not as much as SL's.

Oh, and getting El's Drinker in Ravager involves... well let's just say it's pretty satisfying :smug:

There are some pretty big battles in Wake of the Ravager. I would say a lot more than there are in Shattered lands.

With each dramatic change in the landscape there is a pretty big battle to back it up. I wouldn't say the weaknesses of WotR are in the battles at all, mostly in general feel of the game, originality of story and closeness to the Dark Sun setting.

If you want big battles, I would certainly go for Wake of the Ravager. I think I remember... P, M, T, M, C, HQ... probably 7-8 major battles that were pretty entertaining, although I think the difficulty would need to be above normal to be anywhere near as challenging as the end battle. Battles would be one of the good parts of the game IMO, and plenty of variety in the enemies when you add them all up. If nothing else the end battle is going to wow you. Puts the darkspawn thing from DA to shame! :P

I would say go for it. Maybe do an LP :p

Played NOLF 2 without spending skill points on hard. Super spy is too hard. Finished
Got my popamole fix with Singularity. P. nice pro-Soviet Union copy-pasted shooter. Retarded in some places... Lots of places... Ah, FFS it was retarded everywhere. But still pretty nice.

Now, on to Dragon Age and beyond. Finally, to see what the fuss was about.

BRO BORDERLANDS IS GOOD FUN DONT LISTEN TO THE HATERS.

Problem with the Xbox is that you can't fix the FOV... unless it isn't broken on the console versions.

I've completed Shank. It was good for what it is.

If you liked beat'em ups like Streets of Rage you should give it a go.

Picked up Blood Bowl Legendary Edition. Feels much better, no bugs or anything so far and it feels like it runs better this time around. Haven't tried all the new races yet, but a good deal of them look interesting. They added a story mode and a few other things as well, but haven't gotten into them much just yet.

Also, if you bought the first one, you get 33% knocked off the price of this one. If you got it from their store, you need the key from the first, if you got it from Steam, then the discount will just be put on automatically when you checkout.

Jesus K Reist, finally got rid of the JA2 mine infestation by those overgrown fucking bugs, goddamn. It took me like... 4 hours to do this, thanks to the fact that when I got there first, I got to the bottom fucking floor, right next to the queen's chamber, and I shot out all my goddamn ammo.

Well then, no problem! I'll just go fetch some 5.56s that are scattered across nearly every area and return with divine punishment, since there'll only be the queen remaining...

...HOHOHO, NO! I return and all the deathclaws stinky slinkies are respawned. Burst fire galore in 3... 2... 1...

But anyway, JA2 is fucking awesome. No, wait, it's Fucking Awesome. Needed some proper incline after all the next-gen garbage I played lately.
