So, is this MoTB as good as Codex paints it to be? Meaning, "good enough to make you buy it *AND* the base NWN2".

P.S.
I dislike D&D, but PS:T was heavan and BG2 was moderately enjoyable.
Indeed it is.

You'll probably have moderate enjoyment with the OC as well.

As long as you don't let Kaelyn join your party the game is fine, most of the dialogue and ending frustration came from my conversations with her although Gann touches on the topic as well.

If i'm guilty of horrible stupid that means half the people commenting in this thread are also guilty of horrible stupid. Either that or you are for commenting on something you know nothing about. Awesome.

Given the PS, yes, definitely. MotB is much better than KotOR2, for what that's worth. It's not as omg heavan wunderfuul as PS:T, but it's as close as it gets (with echoes harking back to it, too. HI, ANOTHER ASPECT OF RAVEL). More intelligent and more thoughtful, if much shorter, than BG2. Great main plot, and excellent joinable NPCs who aren't recycled from other Black Isle/Obsidian games.

Skip the NWN2 OC, though.

And Neeshka, though meeting her is, I believe, unavoidable. God, that bitch's voice set my teeth on edge, never mind her personality. And that halfling with the nightmarish face.

I can give you my No Tiefling Cohorts in SoZ guarantee! ...for better or worse, as you may all see it.

In the meantime I can only troll your boards and dream of the day in which you will all be calling my beloved creations either orgasm-worthy or great heaping piles of shit. Especially if you find out which one I voiced and go on to imagine what my posts sound like read in such a shrill chirp (which I assure you is NOT WHAT MY REAL VOICE SOUNDS LIKE I PROMISE).

Ah! The joys of game development!

Codex isn't 4chan.

Yes - and I thank the sweet sainted gods of the internets for that!

Mild developer sass there. Someone called Kaelyn's voice "orgasmic" elsewhere, and it made me chuckle. I did like our VO muchly (but not LIKE-like) - I give mad props to Womb, the company that handled it. Did I mention they also did Bloodlines' VO? Super awesome.

(also, I got to do the replacement VO for One of Many's Child and Madwoman forms, so I guess I can put that up in my defense for "Annie your voice is hideous and shrill and sounds like someone took a drill to my eardrum." Take that, Steve Blum*! Much like Brian Mitsoda I replaced your VO in a game!)

* no disrespect to Mr. Blum intended. His voice gots mad growl to it.

I'd say we were 4chan way before 4chan was ever 4chan. Just saying.

Oh Annie, your posts are orgasmic! Fuck yes, you're the best developer representative on the Codex ever!

Et cetera.

Womb Music is a kick-ass company, I have to agree. Really, I have to. Otherwise I'd have to put myself down. They're the best voice actor handlers (or is that wranglers?) I've ever come across. I'd even say that, right now, they're the only good such company that exists. Voice acting in games isn't as good as I want it to be anymore. Take Mass Effect for example, way too average when it came to the voice acting. They had, maybe two-three great voice actors and the rest were complete and utter "meh." You just can't expect Jennifer Hale and Keith David to handle everything and provide epic epicness and stuff. I hope more developers enlists the Womb, cuz I bet it's really warm and comfy in there and the results that have come out so far are genuinly awesome.

In fact... Hey Bethesda, you fucking worthless pieces of faeces! Outsource the goddamn voice acting to Womb Music! It'll (probably) give us one less thing to bitch about! :)

While I'm giving props to Womb, I must thus give props to Margaret Tang, the director (she also did some voices for Bloodlines!). She not only has excellent rapport with the actors she works with, but gives amazing voice direction. A lot of what goes into a line isn't just a read, but providing the actor context (which is why I think it's so critical that if a writer doesn't put detailed context RIGHT IN THE LINE, they should be at the recording sessions) and prompting them for varying performances. Also giving the actors the appropriate amount of flexibility is nice too - not so much that the point of the line gets murbled, but that they don't feel as locked into the PRECISE word structure of a line, which can often sound dandy when read on the page but a horrible mess when said out loud ;)

So I guess these Womb people are handling it in SoZ as well? If so, good. MotB and Bloodlines both had excellent voiceovers (Bloodlines the best I've heard in a RPG).

I prefer Anthony.. she's too confusional. By the way she writes it's clear she has a big confusion in her head. Yeah, she can be quite informative sometimes, but very quickly wanders off in 4chan and similar territories.
Oh, and Anthony is male..
Don't get me wrong Annie, you're ok too. :)

That's exactly why I like her and wish to marry her when I grow up.

She's been the casting director on a lot of my favorite games, definitely awesome. Is she working on Storm of Zehir and Alpha Protocol?

Margaret's handling AP, but Yutaka Maseba has SoZ covered - also a very talented and awesome director. He was very fun to work with as well - we couldn't be there in person, so we worked from this crazy Skype setup, and stuff worked out excellently (except the one time our work server went down and cut me off in a session and I ran around crazily looking for Alex Brandon like HELP ALEX I THINK I BROKE IT OH NOES). Both very friendly, hilarious, and professional folks.

(and Kaelyn's too calm. I like feisty)

Could be about the level of ambition being clearly lower in case of NWN2.
