I have just finished MDK and Messiah, which I to work under Win 7. First time playing Messiah and I had a blast with it. Man do I miss Shiny's creative touch.
Currently playing Sacrifice again now, planning on playing trough the Earthworm Jim games later.

As part of my "pick a shitty recent game to see just how shitty it can get" binge, I ended up being pleasantly surprised by Dead Space then disappointed in the sequel. The last few games, however, have reminded me that DS2 is probably still a masterpiece compared to the real shit.

To wit: I played through 3 FPS recently. Homefront was a bad game, but I managed to get some lulz out of it and anyway it took less than 3h to complete. Today I was bored, so played through Battle Los Angeles. An hour later I was surprised to see the "congratulations, the end" screen. Am thinking of making another shitty FPS LP out of it actually, it really has the required type of material.

Then you have MIA Mission in Asia. It was off to such a good start too: hilariously bad translation and voice acting and cutscenes that are basically a voiceover on a black screen would have made for some good lulz. But the gameplay itself was not only shitty popamole, but also HARD shitty popamole. Not even worth torrenting.

@Sceptic:

Have you played Divinity 2 yet?

I know you said you intended to, and I suspect you'd find it thoroughly enjoyable despite some less polished bits and some questionable MMO-like design inspirations.

As for DS2, you've successfully deterred me from playing it, as my impressions after playing the first part were similar and similarly mostly positive. It wasn't a very good horror, but it was a good, horror-ish SciFi shooter with some really cool (if somewhat gimmicky) stuff.

Not yet. I'm certain I'll like it, despite any flaws it may have. Problem I've had recently (hence my spate of shitty one-hour FPSes) is that I'm not in the mood for anything longer than 5h. I have a shitload of CRPG's that I'd like to try, including Div 2, but also the original Divinity. I just need to get into that mood again. I've also been spending far too much time drooling over old-school MIDI synthesizers...

Glad to be of service :salute:
Yeah DS2 was a disappointment. The biggest problems, I found, were the much more linear design, the abundance of silly minigames where DS1 had like 2 throughout the entire game, some really stupid weapon rebalancing like nerfing the Line Gun and making the Flamethrower work in vacuum (just think about this one for a second), the QTE's and the generally stupider story. As you said DS1 wasn't great horror, but I'll be damned if it didn't make me panic on several occasions. DS2's equivalent of these moments were just annoying.

Children should I buy the Il-2 Sturmofart 1946 pack on GoG now that it's on sale? It seems rather worth £4

Yes! It's a superb flight sim and includes literally thousands of hours worth of content. If you have any interest in WWII aviation at all, it's a must purchase.

Seconded. That game is worth 4 pounds. I still remember shooting down my first bomber and incidently first enemy airplane. Awesome moment, especially as it took me about 9 tries to bag that baby.

Lifting off was easier. Only took me four times and a quick scan of the manual. Again was great to actually get off the ground. Man, that game can be hardcore and fun with moments that just stick with you because it feels like you really accomplished something. Lack of a good dynamic campaign or career made me lose interest though. There are mods out there but they just don't do it for me.

Both for the first time. I don't know how I missed those two little gems.

Be sure to get the Barbarian Invasion expansion for Rome and Kingdoms for Medieval II. They both add a lot to the base game. Rome doesn't need any mods to be fun, but there are zillions. Personally I love the Viking Invasion remake from Medieval I to the Rome engine. For Medieval II get Stainless Steel. It doesn't introduce too much unnecassary clutter but does improve massively on the base game.

Bought Sturmovik and Knights of the Chalice. Between these, Freespace 2 campaigns and M&M7 I think I'm set for the rest of the year at least.

If only I didn't have to get DA2, Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim so I can complain about the decline and how horrible they are :(

Yes I've been playing Medieval 2 with Stainless Steel too for a few days. Haven't played it before and I must say I am kinda impressed. Started playing for Sicily and got owned after a 100 or so turns. I know what I did wrong. I ignored nearby factions like Venice and went straight to conquer Africa. I thought those fuckers won't attack me but they did it right when most of my army was having a party in the Africa. Right when my army boarded the ships to go and defend homeland the fucking Egyptians started an attack on all of my provinces in Africa.

Maybe starting it will get you into the mood again?

I don't mean to press, since you obviously know the best what your mood is, but Div2 is for H&S what Wiz 8 is for dungeon crawlers and what Anachronox is for JPGs. It starts a bit meh, but gets awesome pretty quickly.

making the Flamethrower work in vacuum (just think about this one for a second)
:what:

Ok, I'll definitely pass. Main selling point* of DS1 for me was the fact that they had balls to make proper vacuum without worrying about retards complaining about soundcard problems and some weapons being buggy in some areas.

*) If they actually bothered to sell the game instead of renting it, that is.
:smug:

Problem, EA?

As you said DS1 wasn't great horror, but I'll be damned if it didn't make me panic on several occasions.
Well, yeah. It had some good scares, but wasn't really good at inducing actual fear.

Still, the atmosphere and this unreliable protagonist thing were good.

You actually covered a lot of the things I heard. Also, I heard there was a cash shop in addition to the expansions so just buying those doesn't actually unlock all of the content and you have to pay to get advanced items and spells and such. Anyway, the whole bundle (game + all expansions) is now at a $20 list price on Steam so when a sale rolls along I'll probably pick it up for $5.

Been playing some Sanctum but sadly only the first level was fun.

Otherwise it's mainly Minecraft and Starcraft 2. Been so for quite a while now. Also I try to work on like 3-4 games (hobby projects) simultaneously.

I loaded up Crysis 2 for a few hours, aside from the smooth graphics and decent soundtrack, the whole package seems poor compared to Crysis 1.

Left 4 Dead is now sucking dry all my gaming time. Can't believe I didn't pick up this gem earlier. The assholes in multiplayer only add to the game for once.
