appreciate you taking the time to reply! I actually got the EE version of Torment and BG series from Steam as well but gog does advertise you will get the original IWD if you buy the EE. At this point, I will wait for a sale to buy it and find out. It is a risk but I can live with it if I end up wasting my money.

I definitely think you're encountering some type of bug or other issue with gog. I skimmed the recent reviews on the games and none of them indicated some type of licensing change, a few reviews were very critical of beamdog forcing you to buy the EE version in order to get the original.

Either way, thanks for the warning!

Yeah I think the originals are no longer being sold (if they are bundled in "for free" with a game that costs money they're effectively being sold).

I think what happened was I bought the originals while they were being sold and they just didn't get removed.

I don't know about Icewind Dale (since I learnt my lesson with BG EE), but for BG EE the original versions are now listed as separate games. Used to be under "extras".

I have IWD2 on my computer. Don't need to buy that EE shit, if it ever comes out.

Source code is lost for IWD2, beamdog will never release an EE, apparently some modders are trying to make an EE version but from what I know, I'm very skeptical it will ever be released.

They found one recently. Turns out one of the old devs kept it.

I have the old "Complete" packages for the IE games in my GOG library, I think I got some as distinct pre-EE purchases and others as EE extras. There's definitely no more classic downloads under the EE extras, I know there were at some point but couldn't say when that changed.

But things are a bit more curious than that, just at the weekend I spotted an ad for "Baldur's Gate II Complete" instead of the EE in the recent GOG installer for Cyberpunk 2077 v.1.6. I wanted to ask which one of you Beamdog haters got a job at CD Projekt, but what's really strange is that there is no Baldur's Gate II Complete on GOG's storefront, it's an ad without a product.

So beamdog might do an EE but they haven't said anything official?
Hopefully, they're saying nothing because they're too busy making Icewind Dale 2: Enhanced Edition for me!

we can have a 3E BG saga at long last.
You already do. :smug:

Good. Don't let those douchebags at Beamdog touch Icewind Dale:2.
They already did enough damage with their "remasters",including them deciding that if you want the originals you have to purchase their "ENHANCED" editions. FUCK THEM! That's a seriously dick move.

Not in my case, I thought about that so I tried it on clean reinstall and I still got the same issue. Maybe it's conflicting with whatever I've set in the DX SDK, I dunno and I'm too fed up to toy with it anymore. What threw me for a loop is that the problem persisted even after I completely removed CNC's files.

Curious. IWD2 at this point tops my list of old games that are cantankerous to get working. I'd guess it's because so little attention is paid to backwards compatibility on 2D rendering of that era. Even 3D games around the same time that used to be difficult to get working either now seem to have good backwards compatibility support in OS/Drivers or readily available fanpatches that work for everyone, but getting IWD2 working seems to be a trial and error thing for everyone.
I did a run this past summer on windows 10, ran it in compatibility mode with windows 7 instead of xp as my PC recommended and had 0 issues.

Can also sign that the trick to getting IWD/IWD2 working on win 10 is to do nothing at all. Literally only had problems when I thought I had to use wrappers, turns out it runs just fine (better, actually: no jitteryness, no fog glitches).

P.S w/r/t widescreen mods, IWD works fine with widescreen mod alone, IWD2 needs a seperate GUI widescreen mod - http://havredest.eklablog.fr/interfaces-pour-widescreen-a42876917in - addition to the regular widescreen mod. Best resolution if you're using a 1080p monitor is 1360x786, this fills the screen with no black bars, but without everything looking ant-sized like it would if you tried to go with 1920x1080

Just to make it clear for anyone who is looking at this thread, I had the gog version not a CD or torrent and the recommended compatibility mode was xp which ran fine but crashed my game at certain points.

Switching to windows 7 compatibility stopped that.
