In the first 2 minutes the King gets killed by a blonde twink in his own room. Where are the guards? How this guy got there? Why is he not using a hitman instead of committing regicide with his own hands?
He's literally the highest ranking general in the kingdom, in charge of the guards. The king would have been protected from murder by random people by royal magic - this is all in the opening cutscene.

The continent is one giant blob.
I wonder why the continent is the way it is. Surely it has no relation to Utopia...

You go to enlist on the city militia and after 3 questions they let you in. No previous training or test of your abilities.
And then you are sent off as part of a suicide squad that's supposed to die to show how necessary it is for Louis to be in charge.

Yeah, the setting being a complete hodgepodge of nonsense told through frequent back-to-back cutscenes killed my interest for now. I would have preferred generic whimsical fantasy to this, they probably wanted to be "unique" but the result seems to be quite incoherent.

Nothing about this game looks appealing to me. These character designs look almost randomly generated. MC has one of the ugliest designs since SMTIV Apocalypse. Pacing issues and dumbass story taking itself too seriously are completely in line with purseowner, i assume it's going to stay the same way to the end, mixed with unhealthy doses of filler. Press turn weakness abuse spam is so tiring and samey, i'm genuinely baffled people actually praise this type of combat system.
Let's see how much it will sell without shitty romance social links carrying it.

This game has the dumbest story I've seen in a piece of media in a good while. Not in RPGs or videogames, but in general. Even surpassing by a mile the story of Final Fantasy 16.
I'm giving it a pass for that reason alone.

I have no interest in yet another compromised JRPG that peddles the supposed merits of communism.

Wow, the demo completely killed my interest. The game has a boring and stupid story, clunky controls, horrific art design, bad UI, a generic combat system and one of the stupidest names ever. I'll be very surprised if this sells well. Who's the target audience for this game? Nobody comes to my mind.

There's snowy land right to the desert, which is right to an autumn forest, which is right to a generic forest. The city of the game is in the middle a giant desert. How do they survive? Do they drink their own piss? What do they eat? You go to enlist on the city militia and after 3 questions they let you in. No previous training or test of your abilities.
The game is anachronistic even for fantasy standards. Some characters dress like bootleg Gucci, others with generic medieval clothes. The city uses 18th to 19th century neo-classical architecture, while medieval carriages of horses pass-by. Nobody speaks or behaves like a medieval person, yet we're supposed to believe social classes and discrimination are a big issue. You transform into a mecha-like robot, but all the weaponry and technology is medieval.
Hate to be that guy but as far as JRPGs go that is entirely normal. Most have non-existent world building where every area is just a purpose build setup for whatever level the devs are making at the moment. The japs have always done this sort weird mix up of anachronistic elements, for reference chekc Shadow Hearts Covenant where the main hero is wearing a biker jacket in pre-WW1 Prussia, is followed by a homosexual vampire who learned wrestling from an indian wrestler and the female lead in wearing a hooker tier miniskirt.

The pacing is atrocious.
To repeat the word of the faggot Razorfist: "There is no word for "pacing" in japanese".
Sadly the japs have a very lose relationship with the concept as a whole so its pretty normal for them do this kind of shit even in the best of cases.

I have to second this. Its basically a worse Scarlet Nexus. A lot of visual clutter that may have been seem like a cool inclusion on paper but in practice the game just end up looking like puke. The whole game has this weird desaturation filter going on that makes everything look like its been out in the sun for too long, that might be intentional but sure does not play nice with the super basic celshading shader they slapped onto everything. In places it looks like poorly modded skyrim with all the sloppy textures and lame shaders.

I made it only up to the mine but the social commentary is already both grating and childish. I will try to get through the rest of the demo but so far I am not exactly impressed.

visuals / controls / UI I did not have complains and music is wonderful

character building can be interesting when you inherit skills/passives to other archtypes but too early to say yet, only can inherit 1 skill in demo

BUT based on demo any character can change to any archtype as long as you have prerequisites for it which can be solved by grinding. so it might be that the only thing that is different between characters (other than mc which can choose ~half attributes freely) is their attribute distribution :decline:


tried to find more info about regicide and found this in ign so probably bullshit

if you get more rewards similar to persona 5 merciless then it might be easier than hard difficulty :negative:

but yeah if combat is going to be shit / too easy this game is probably unsalvageable

Since it's on PC i'm just going to crack it via mods. No sense in going through the entire game once just to have an actually playable, functioning level of challenge.

To answer your question I imagine it's to pad out the buyer's average playtime. Even though it's a single player game, you'd best believe interested parties in Altus's business department are tracking that information.

Metaphor: ReFantazio received 9/9/10/9 from the four critics (Famitsu), giving the game a total score of 37/40.

According to Famitsu, the game takes 80 hours to finish, or over 100 including side activities. Excerpts of the translated review claim that “the gameplay itself feels almost the same as the Persona series” and that “the coolness of the presentation is on a different level.”

I mean, you're not wrong. JRPG worldbuilding has always been a mess. But at least they had a unified artistic vision that made everything stick together. This game is trying to be Game of Thrones, Final Fantasy and Persona all at the same time and failing. It's bizarre.

Worst part is that Atlus/Sega already confirmed that localizers are working directly with the jap devs so that the games are censored at the source. Like the trannie scene in Persona 3 that was also removed in the Jap release. Not that this is a surprise since Sega already had horrendous localization in their previous games and the biggest lolcow in the industry was part of their internal team for years. They already butchered the Yakuza games too, like censoring jokes against trannies, putting feminist messages in the games, removing the romance with a bi hostess and making her a full lesbian, etc.

Not sure How can a jrpg game with 80 hours to complete be highly immersive ? I felt persona 5 was too lengthy.
