The game is apparently as long as Persona 5. Hard to say how much of that will be filler.

finished demo took about 6 hours

story is very retarded but its so bad that its kinda entertaining
difficulty pretty easy but died few times to ambushes
level 6 party managed to defeat
a dragon :hmmm: you should defeat this optional fight reward is very good for the next dungeon

in hard difficulty enemies get extra press turn which can be removed if u hit weakness (and u get extra press turns in smt fashion) so I would expect magic to be superior vs physical. I just pump every point into magic. MP management is very easy so can spam spells every encounter

but this fuckness trivializes difficulty hope this is not available in regicide difficulty

so any combat encounter you can restart unlimited amount of times without any penalty, disgusting

you can see other people party setups and can even copy their builds... the fuck

I gave it an hour on the chance I'll eventually return to the game proper so I don't have to replay much, but I think "playing the game" part will be the weakest link here. Setting with its various tribes and racism, politics-lite and just the idea of their fantasy story being one of our world is interesting. It's the systems that come across as nothing memorable even though that could just be the weak, first boss fight impressions talking. It's also hard to deny visuals aren't exactly up to snuff. Maybe I should've left the default 125% rendering ON just to see if it completely does away with jaggies.

you just know it's some inner world mumbo jumbo and all the fucking characters are like aspect of your guy's personality and he's secretly in a coma or some such midwit shit. fatlus has simply not outgrown jungian idiocy and cannot do honest to god fantasy

Only played an hour so far, just got to the city, no combat yet, but I utterly love the cheesy anime approach. It's perfect to capture that late 80's, early 90's vibe it's going for.

I'm glad it's a bit retarded, games like this fall flat on their face when they take themselves too seriously. That's for proper RPGs.

Its absolutely bonkers fatlust is charging 70 bucks for this. The visuals are awful ps2 tier. I know the persona franchise visually always looked ugly but come on 20 years old graphics 70 bucks lol.

It's Sega, if you hate the price just wait for 3 months. Guaranteed the game will be on sale for 25% off at least.

it was heavily implied that area should be done after main dungeon so I passed it for now
I could try it but I have a feeling that regicide difficulty requires starting new playthrough so can't be arsed to do it twice

In general, you know the difficulty is shit if people defend it with "bu... but the optional dungeon".
Did you have to sweat against Soldier of Godrick in Elden Ring? That was a tough boss, I tell you what!

I'm sorry that I don't evaluate the game's difficulty by the challenge of the tutorial segment.

I don't think anyone's doing that. I think Jermu is, quite reasonable, looking for any sign or indication that this game may be harder than the Persona-series, since difficulty is the main weakness of that series. When I saw this game's title card my first thought was "please let there be an actual meaningful difficulty setting" so I can sympathize.

This game has the dumbest story I've seen in a piece of media in a good while. Not in RPGs or videogames, but in general. Even surpassing by a mile the story of Final Fantasy 16.

Could you elaborate? How is it stupid exactly?

In the kingdom of Euchronia, some years ago the prince was cursed and turned into the sleeping beauty by a charismatic general Louis, who is legally distinct from Griffith or Lucifer. Shortly before the start of the game Louis assassinates the king, as the first step to his coup. You are a childhood friend of the prince, coming to the capital to assassinate Louis. The assassination fails because the dead king's Election Magic is triggered. He set things up so that there's a month-long popularity contest, and at the end of the month the winner gets to be the next king. This ruins Louis' coup, but as he's the second most popular man in the country to begin with - he's not out. So you have a month to go on a fantasy adventure to become the very best like no one ever was and unite the races of Euchronia behind you and kick Louis' ass.

A complication is that an average Euchronian is as racist as an average RPGCodex poster, and your race is the lowest on the totem pole.

It would be hard to say exactly where because it fails at every level. Structure, themes, plot, premise, dialogues, everything in this game is an unfunny joke.

The pacing is atrocious. At the start of the game there's 4 to 5 introductions: The killing of the King, the map of the world, the protagonist's past, the assault on the carriage. Each of them one after the other in successive cutscenes. In the last one you literally get mogged by bandits, while you do nothing but stand still and get kicked from a cliff. When you wake up, you get to walk for 2 minutes before the next cutscene, and when you reach the city there's another cutscene. Every 2 steps there's a cutscene.

The world is nonsensical. In the first 2 minutes the King gets killed by a blonde twink in his own room. Where are the guards? How this guy got there? Why is he not using a hitman instead of committing regicide with his own hands? The continent is one giant blob. There's snowy land right to the desert, which is right to an autumn forest, which is right to a generic forest. The city of the game is in the middle a giant desert. How do they survive? Do they drink their own piss? What do they eat? You go to enlist on the city militia and after 3 questions they let you in. No previous training or test of your abilities.

Characters are completely ridiculous. You get involved in a plot to kill the evil twink that murdered the King, no one ever tells you how they know it was him. As the spectator, you know it, but how did they get this information? They never bother to provide evidence; you just go along with them to commit terrorism and high treason because they said so.

The game is anachronistic even for fantasy standards. Some characters dress like bootleg Gucci, others with generic medieval clothes. The city uses 18th to 19th century neo-classical architecture, while medieval carriages of horses pass-by. Nobody speaks or behaves like a medieval person, yet we're supposed to believe social classes and discrimination are a big issue. You transform into a mecha-like robot, but all the weaponry and technology is medieval.

All of this while the game's trying to take itself seriously, and make a point on how super important this discrimination issue is, and how complex and deep the political intrigues are. Yet there's nothing believable, serious or realistic about anything.
