P4 / P4G is the best jrpg ever created imo. Everything about this game is either very good or excellent.

The fact that this game is successful means that it's over

Soyga and Fatlus will be catering to this market from now on and lolcowlizer and shitditor will be use this game as hallmark of DEI in JRPG is good

If there's a market for it, fine. I wonder how many people are willing to put up with gay nonsense to get a decent Atlus turn based RPG?

I don't think this game was really marketed as a racism fairy tale either (I had no idea, but I wasn't following it super closely). There's always the "Gone Home" effect, aka marketing through deception and fraud. It only lasts for so long.

regarding archtypes 1 of em is very busted
merchant gives shitload of money for field battles, normally killing group of enemies would net like 150 gold but merchant boosts that to 2k or something
in picture single enemy would give 34 gold but merchant adds over 10x more

The way I see it the entirety of Japan has been on a woke trajectory for a while now. It's just less visible because they have different traditions and they also start out from way further to the right compared to most western nations.

I can only assume people with this opinion dislike dungeon crawling/exploration in JRPGs, because the random dungeon design in P4 is atrocious.

It is, but it's also challenging and the game always gives you a good reason to jump into it. Something P5, with better dungeons design, is missing.

I found the dungeons way more engaging and fun in P5, but still very much so lacking. I guess the point is that P3 and 4 could have been way better games with handcrafted and somewhat complex dungeon design. P5's was passable, but it should have been much more complex and in-depth too. Since a great majority of the actual gameplay takes place in said dungeons, I feel its a no-brainer that a good deal of development resources be given to them. But the truth of the matter is that the mainstream audience simply doesn't like dungeon crawling, and that's probably the real reason they kept them so simple in each game's case. This fact disqualifies these games from being excellent - as in "best JRPG ever made material" - in my eyes since, again, the majority of the actual gameplay revolves around making your way through dungeons. Among other problems I have with the series, such as the focus on highschool life.

It was very basic, but at least it allowed you to progress at your own pace.

Meanwhile, dungeons in Persona 5 felt too overdesigned and gimmicky.
Being forced to return to the real world was also very lame.

Mementos was probably a way to compensate for that change, but it lacked variety.

But the truth of the matter is that the mainstream audience simply doesn't like dungeon crawling
Very true, unfortunately.
The moment Persona became a hit, the decline was inevitable.

Yep, totally agree. And the fact that I preferred that over what P3 and 4 had to offer kind of speaks volumes about the quality of those bland random dungeons.

The problem is Japan is a slow country controlled by boomers

While in the west you would see company pivot out of the wokeness purely out of willingness to get profit, much like it requires 3 decades to make Japan a trash woke country, it will require decades to make it turn away from it

I'll just play Chinese or Korean game in the future I guess

Game just sold more than Star Wars Outlaws lmao
How bad is Star Wars game to be defeated by some random jRPG with the daughter of two-legged Toaster from Persona on top of that?

Today, October 11th, " Metaphor: ReFantazio "Total worldwide sales (packaged version shipped + download version sold) have surpassed 1 million copies!

"Metaphor: ReFantasio" is currently receiving high scores on each platform
on the overseas review aggregation site "Metacritic," with Xbox version receiving 92 points, PlayStation®5 version receiving 93 points, and Windows/Steam version receiving 91 points (as of October 11, 2024). In addition, the game has received wide support from a wide range of people, including winning the Japan Game Awards "Future Division" for two consecutive years in 2023 and 2024, which
is selected annually by public vote .

It shows you the absolute state of western industry.
Even jRPG that is woke, is better than the sloop ubi$hit makes.
I am not a fan of jRPGs, since they are no RPGs in my opinion. You don't have a character to RP, there are no different approaches based on your statistics, and usually PC is a total faggot, and you have no influence over anything he's doing.
On top of that jap devs are twats and their DLC strategy is similar or actually worse than the Paradox one.
Dragon Dogma was the only exception to that, since I happen to like how the magic was done in that one.
So I never played any of persona games. I wanted to give this one a chance, yet after reading this thread, and seeing that jewish troon translating it.
I think I'm good without buying that, especially that they want 70€ for that.
Just play orginal Persona 3 or 4. Persona 3 if you like more managing of your time, squad, bitches and be punished for bad decisions, Persona 4 if you like a good story with likeable characters in 90's mood(Stand by me, Goonies). They both work great with PCSX.
I will check them out. I heard that they are decent gameplay wise.
And not as fucked when it come to the plot as Final Fantasy.

This could also just be down to the fact that Megagay: Gran Racismo has that identifiable Persona look to it, which people associate with quality jRPG, whereas the star wars slop nobody even knows what that studio did before, who that Fem Solo is supposed to be, Ubisoft in general has been just perma shat on for years now by the usual suspects.

None of the normie grifters who shit on woke games talked much about Metastasis: ReCancer.

Code:
Game - Peak Players - rating:
Persona 4 Golden - 29K peak - 95.44%
Persona 5 Royal - 35K peak - 95.21%
Persona 3 Reload - 45K peak - 91.94%
SMT5 Vengeance - 21K peak - 89.41%
Metaphor: ReFantazio - 76K peak - 87.42%

So: it's not like people think this is best game ever - P3, P4, P5, SMT V are all rated better by the players. It's just released at the good time with proper marketing in place.

It all depends on the number of players voted

Gemini AI-
Assumptions and Analysis:

  1. Higher Peak Players = Higher Popularity: We'll assume that a higher peak player count suggests greater overall popularity. This is a common metric used in gaming communities.
  2. Game Title Influence: We'll consider the popularity of the Persona series and the SMT franchise. The Persona series is generally considered more popular than SMT.
Based on these assumptions, we can rank the games as follows:

  1. Persona 5 Royal: With the highest peak player count, Persona 5 Royal likely has the widest appeal among the listed games.
  2. Metaphor: ReFantazio: Despite not being a part of a well-established franchise, its high peak player count suggests significant popularity.
  3. Persona 3 Reload: As part of the popular Persona series, it likely has a dedicated fanbase, though its peak player count is lower than the top two.
  4. Persona 4 Golden: While it has a lower peak player count than Persona 5 Royal, its status as a classic in the series and its enduring popularity contribute to its ranking.
  5. SMT5 Vengeance: As part of the SMT franchise, it likely has a dedicated fanbase, but its lower peak player count compared to the Persona games suggests a narrower appeal.

Anyone playing on any language other than English? I can speak a bunch of languages but usually they just translate from English instead of Japanese so you get something doubly localized in the end.

I just saw a post saying that 'Tolerance' is translated to Великодушие (Magnanimity) in Russian, now I am curious to see the original in japanese.

Was the healing spell also called DEI in the japanese version? Or is this another creative liberty from our lovely localization team?

I could use a long jrpg right now, but won't be able to stomach the game if it's woke.
According to some wikia, no.

This is like the Twilight Zone "It's a Good Life"(https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0734580/) episode we are in, where Anthony Fremont is woke Twitter mob.
Seems like ATLUS casted DEI on their game

Ok so everyone's either raving about or hating on this game.

I've never played a Persona game and they don't seem interesting to me, but I've played some SMT games and enjoyed them.

Is this game worth it purely from a combat/party building/dungeon crawling/exploration/challenge angle?

I don't want to try the demo because the first 5 hours are probably a very guided experience to explain to you the concept of using an ice skill on a fire monster and they will only let you run free and have fun much later.

It is better than Persona school simulator from the few hours i played. Ost is fantastic Yet to play the first long dungeon. The dialogues are not good and very childish. Combat is mediocre and graphics is not up to par. This seems to be more influenced by persona than SMT.

The other factor that is unquestionably helping sales is the fact that this a new game and it's being released simultaneously. Everything else was just a port or a remake.

There is a lot of dungeon crawling in demo and it is pretty representative of what full game is. Just turn on japanese subtitles and voiceovers, so you won't understund shit. Translation is that abysmal and a person with a penis who did this should be judged for a murder.

if you find game shit after demo then I would not buy this

but difficulty been decent on hard, harder than smt5 for example
