I've been playing it for 10 hours, terrible translation and self inserts end exactly where demo ends. Very odd, I wonder if someone told japs the game would sell better this way and let woke translator loose, but for last 6 hours, exactly since the end of the demo, the game is great. I didn't experience nothing about communism, equity, diversity, faggotry, just road trip and adventure. Fucking invasion of body snatchers. Characters started to be likeable and even funny, which is a big change compering it to paternalistic and pretentious way they behaved. That's probably the way Katrina Leonoudakis speaks. The story seems to be something more then "young refuge reads Communist Manifesto and wants to make everyone equally poor and miserable" as it might seem at first thanks to our priceless translator. It's like someone said - bitch stop your nonsense or you are out, just translate god damn thing.

Due to the fact that Japanese has wildly different grammar and infers a lot purely through context while putting implicit emphasis on stuff that appears entirely superfluous to Westerners, a whole class of content creators was born - 'localizers', who are mostly JET program Americans with nothing better to do in life than to 'teach English' in Japan, purely as an expression of American colonial dominance. They go to Japan, get acquainted with the culture the knew from anime only, and decide to clean it up for the purpose of maintaining the illusion of cool Japan, probably as a psychological defence mechanism. The explanation they give for the absurd liberties they take is, as mentioned before, Japanese being a genuinely different language, shit that wouldn't fly translating between English and French.

Japanese developers have been convinced America needs special treatment since the 80s really, since the US office of Sega. I'm sure they've long come up with a long list of things to peddle to sell well in the West. When it comes to Atlus, they have been since the first Persona, really. Unfortunately, some younger Japs have internalised this unironically, maybe also as a reaction to their laughably ossified political scene, still catering to the same generation of people born sixty+ years ago. Japan has drunk the left-wing Kool Aid like anyone else, in the 60s, but there has never been any venue for the 60s left-wing to make a fool of themselves, since nothing fucking changes in Japanese poltics. Hence, this limp-dick social justice argument remains a fancy they deem noble for nobility's sake, because how could they know better?

An unholy marriage of maladjusted Americans on an inane mission and deluded Japs not really sure how to peddle their product have resulted in Metaphor: ReFantazio.

Japanese devs don't care about shit translation and it certainly isn't a sign that Japan is becoming California. As long as they don't have to directly interact with dirty Gajin they will let them do as they want.
Translators are also being heavily replaced by the Japanese government funded AI anyway. By 2030 you will get the same shit translation, but this time made by an AI since they are using the trannies as the training model.

What is the use of training the models for accurate info when most of the info is junk in internet ?
Fansub scene used to be pretty good around for like 10-20 years. Transcribe the japanese and compare it to those translations = more than enough quality training data. Besides a lot of AI training is done by hand as well. There are literally AI trainer job positions now.

Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.

AI translation will never be usable without at least cursory edit/polish by a human. Hence a chance for dangerhairs to still be able to insert themselves between the game and the customers.

Luckily AI usage in translation deincentivises putting serious effort in and translators post-editing AI output tend to go with sloppier lines than they would otherwise do.

Huh, I get to play in an anime. Looks pretty fun so far.

Initiating combat is more involved and twitchy then in SMT VV

Love the way you travel through the map, reminds me of old days playing Baldurs Gate 2 and Arcanum. Making travel feel like an adventure seems to be forgotten knowledge nawadays. Here you have beautiful, hand drawn map with locations you already visited or you know they exist and you need to plan your expedition - visit an inn to buy an information about weakspots of enemies you will encounter at the destination, take into consideration how many days the trip will take, take a shortest possible route, be aware of what the weather will be like when you get there. During the trip you encouter enemies, discover places that pop up on your way, spend the night at the camp(with a proper god damn campfire) if it takes longer then a day. You can go out on deck and observe how you move through the landscapes, kill time with activities that develop your skills and attributes or just take a nap. They've absolutesly nailed it.

Such Terrible dialogues and they have the audacity to compare this game with final fantasy tactics. They need to remaster/remake final fantasy tactics.

I have started playing more of this fantasy game. I like it much better than persona 4 and 5.

I actually have Persona 4 Golden and 5 Royal in my Library. But whenever I think about playing a school drama anime, I quickly perish the thought.

On the other hand, this one seems pretty cool.

I don't know about Persona 4, but it's light years better in every aspect then Persona 5.

I like this game little touches and the fact it doesn't waste your time, which is absolute chore in nu-jrpgs. Everything you do is quickly executed. You start a combat - bam, quick animated transition and in about a second you kick ass. You choose a skill to use - bam, it lands. You win the battle - bam, here is your xp and stuff you get, second later you can keep playing. Compare it to Persona 5 where 90% of time after battle you had to watch a god damn unskipable transition animation of main protagonist walking like a faggot for 5 seconds.

As for little touches - there is different battle music depending on how encounter started - it's different when you were ambushed, just started combat by pressing triangle or if you start by dominating an enemy first. If you were ambushed music is ominous and makes you feel threaten, when you dominate on the other hand it's more uplifting and make you feel glourius. Transitions are also different and quick. Some may say it's uninportant but it makes the game feel polished, responsive and well thought out.

You were ambushed:

Your the one that's making an ambush:

I am not a fan of jRPGs, since they are no RPGs in my opinion. You don't have a character to RP, there are no different approaches based on your statistics, and usually PC is a total faggot, and you have no influence over anything he's doing.
On top of that jap devs are twats and their DLC strategy is similar or actually worse than the Paradox one.
Dragon Dogma was the only exception to that, since I happen to like how the magic was done in that one.
So I never played any of persona games. I wanted to give this one a chance, yet after reading this thread, and seeing that jewish troon translating it.
I think I'm good without buying that, especially that they want 70€ for that.
You should check Romancing Saga 2 Remake, there is a demo. It only shows combat and the first "real" dungeon and ends before you can make any decision, but apparently the series is known for letting you decide how the story goes.

soon done with the game only got few optional bosses + final boss left
maxing all social stuff was easy I have 15~ days left to spare without checking any guides

I was afraid combat was going to be braindead easy on hard difficulty but that was not the case, difficulty has good enough challenge. would be actually hard game if you could not restart every combat encounter (like in regicide mode) + disabling auto saving

good companions (mc sucks though), good combat, story is pretty retarded early but gets better with few cool twists
8/10 so far I write some more shit after finishing

Both aren't focused on the school setting primarily. The plot of both games revolve around things outside the school. P4 is closer to a murder mystery investigation. P5 is about uncovering societal and governmental corruption.

Yeah, basing on positive opinions, I was tempted to play play P4. But then again, random dungeons seem like a terrible idea.

According to Hashino, dungeons will play a major role in Metaphor: ReFantazio. But don't expect to see all of them in one playthrough. Compared to the more-linear timelines found in Persona, Metaphor offers a bit more freedom at the cost of having to make hard choices and not only how you spend your time, but where.
well this was the biggest bullshit I have heard for a while
you don't need to make decisions you can visit every place, max everything and do every quest first playthrough blind except (
ng+ has 1 extra boss hurray
)

story drags little bit at the end after final boss there was cutscenes and dialogue for probably hour I just skipped those

overall good game better than I was expecting. if hard is not challenging enough do what I did and don't use combat redo button its decline feature
quests were pretty basic, locations good, decent enemy variety
archtype balance felt good there were only couple I consider shit / too powerful
game is pretty gay so keep that in mind (no openly homosexual npcs or anything like that)
the main force and theme can be said in 1 word
anxiety :-D every second word end game is something related to that

1 spoiler free tip: after you max level archtype you don't need to change it so you can grind new one if you don't want to - extra xp transfers to items that you can consume and use those to level other archtypes. over 50% of time I was using suboptimal setups since I did not know this :?

better game than smt5 or persona5 imo. smt5 would be better if it was harder

Well, I don't know about that. The menagerie is very cool, certainly. And its fun to find ways to break the game. But attrition or risk simply don't exist in that game and its a pretty major drawback.

Meanwhile in Metaphor the resource management can get pretty intense.

It'd be nice to play this with everyone else on release but everyone knows there is going to be a special edition and I refuse to pay Atlus $140 for the same game (again).

It's a gamble really. You could end up with a SMT V Vengeance situation where it's an overall improvement, or you could end up with a Persona 5 Royal situation where it unbalances the the whole game and saps it of the difficulty it had, while adding another 30 hours onto an already bloated playtime.

I'd honestly be playing this right now if I didn't have so much I'm already in the middle of playing/starting later in the month (Ys X and Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven). I have a feeling this is going to be a situation where the special edition fucks everything up.
