A few days ago a new version of the Enhanced Character Editor did come out.
Click
here to go to its Skyrim Shot's page. As the site is in Japanese you can also click
here to download it without the need to guess what link is the proper one. The mod is in Japanese but there is an English readme that does explain what optional file to copy to translate it into English.
As all advanced Skyrim mods it does require the SKSE. You can download it from
here. SKSE does require the matching patch to be installed. It is also very hard to run on a pirate copy of Skyrim. Yet if you can run mods on it you can probably run SKSE as long as you have the matching patch.
This version of the ECE is extremely good. It does add dozens of options and sliders to the Character Editor. With this and a few good mods you can easily create actually beautiful people. You do still need pretty textures for face/skin/lips/eyes/etc and a few hair mods as it does only manipulate the morphing of the face. The optional 'elven' ears you can add to all characters are kind of ugly but I do believe it is pretty easy to add custom ear meshes (like Numenume or Nouserheres) by means of the Creator to any custom race you do download or create, and given you do need to run a custom race to use the Player Character Exclusive Animation Path there is no excuse not to at least duplicate and customize one of the vanilla races to suit your tastes. That way you can also pick your starting boni, spells, and special abilities to suit your gameplay-ish or LARPing needs so there you go.
Since we are at it...
Go
there for the Player Character Exclusive Animation Path. It is a bit of a bother to install it the first time as you do need NFIS to run it but I do believe it is worth it if you do care about aesthetics. It does basically change the path of all vanilla races animations to a custom one so that any new animations (walking animations, combat animations, idle animations, etc) you download do only affect the player character (and maybe custom companions that do not belong to vanilla races too, I do not know). This is pretty useful if you do not want all the Nord, Orc, and Redguard girls walking around like supermodels, standing around in a manner most adorable, and striking Korean MMO poses when in combat.
