That armor is literally stolen directly from The Witcher 2.

Fun fact: CDPR allowed the usage of their content in all kind of mods

Is the alternate start mod any good? I don't actually want to be dragonborn, but I'm concerned with starting at level 1 in Solitude.
Well, no matter what start you pick, you'll always become a dragonbon if you go into the main quest. However, there's plenty of stuff to do besides the MQ. About half of the starts are for pure LARP purpose, only changing your initial gear and location, but some are VERY game changing, like already starting as a Empire/Stormcloak recruit, or as a vampire, with your personal lair & treasures.

Wow, from playing that Alternate Start mod, I'm utterly convinced that TES gains nothing from a shitty main questline. Things would be much more interesting if Bethesda made everything else more interesting or better: created a overarching storyline that related a large number of bigger, local, quests.

I'm quite sure that even Todd Howard doesn't care about the main storyline... I mean, I don't think it gates you in any kind of way, you can do mostly anything in the game except killing the final boss if you don't take the "kill the final boss" quest... a hiking/LARP simulator this truly is.

Indeed, the main quest has been an afterthought since Oblivion.
At most it'S something to get you started and to send you to some different places to do some sightseeing.
The main idea seems now giving the possibility and freedom to do everything with every character.

Sometimes I get the sense that TES means to frame itself like Pokémon. Your final objective is to become Master Pokémon Trainer, but until then there's a endless stream of filler episodes and side quests. Problem is that this linearizes the experience, unless you purposedly ignore the whole Master Quest thing - making the main questline a even shittier addition to the game.

It would be better if Skyrim's 'Main Quest' was the Civil War, but instead of a main questline you go around interacting with the cities and villages and how the Civil War affects those places. Only getting to a final, main, questline later, after you've witnessed/caused the latest developments. After all if Skyrim is so big on exploration, then exploration should take precedence and not be counter-intuitive.

So I just opened this thread to write something along the lines of "lol people playing skyrim itt lol", when suddenly...

And are you interested in the, uhm, 'bad girl' mods I do use as well or do you just want the Codex compatible ones mentioned?

I want this. I need something to encourage me to reinstall Skyrim to try out Dragonborn. :P

I've actually got this vision for doing a total overhaul mod myself. I want to strip out the voiced dialog and replace everything with text a la Morrowind, except maybe passive dialogue, as in dialogue that occurs when your character isn't actively speaking to anyone. It would be a giant fucking undertaking, as I'd want to ideally give as many NPCs as possible unique dialogue, like in Morrowind where you could learn local lore or ask for rumours and backgrounds and the like. Then I'd take it a step further and place new locations and items and enemies etc in the game world, to which NPCs can subtly give you clues so you can find them yourself. I'd even like to implement a journal again that keeps track of important conversations and the like.

Basically, Morrowind's dialogue system in Skyrim.

Just a pity I don't know shit about modding, so it will remain nothing more than a twinkle in my eye until I learn to mod.

And there's that russian team that started on Andoran, a TC for Oblivion but then decided to switch over to Skyrims engine.
I guess we might see something if they finish before TES VI comes out, at which point they would likely switch engines again.

The problem with Nehrim is that it suffered from terrible performance issues and a terribad translation. Otherwise it was actually pretty interesting.

Oh without a doubt, it's just the fact that it played a lot like Oblivion which narrowed it's potential, I'm hoping that Skyrim's improved engine will net better results.

Now that modders have mushroom towers, I can only hope for a version of Rise of House Telvanni for Skyrim. Now that was a *mod*.

The apex of Skyrim modding community's imagination would be utilizing those Tel towers and homes for brothels with Netch sex slaves a'la Pony. It's weird considering there was quite a lot of ambitious quest mods for Oblivion, even.

Also, any good "darker night" mod that does just that, and doesn't overhaul the entire graphic system like Climates of Tamriel etc.? I'd like this and Lanterns of Skyrim with that Dragonborn's Dunmer paper lantern.

Let me know when a complete conversion mod comes out that makes it great. Oblivion had Nehrim, which was not quite a hit.
The same team is doing Endereal now for Skyrim.

Goddammit, why can't they just create a mod that simply adds Valenwood or another province/Daedric realm similar to the Shivering Isles with its separate main and side questlines, if they are aiming for something so detached in form of the Skyrim mod for Skyrim?

There's a team adding both Morrowind AND Oblivion to the game, if that interest you: http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/09/20/skywind-mod-aims-to-bring-morrowind-to-the-skyrim-engine/

And we all know that it will be like 80% close to completion when Elder Scrolls VI - SPACE!!! gets released and mods will give up to start working on modding Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind into the new game...

I know about this. And about Beyond Skyrim provinces.

It's just that those Nehrim guys seem a lot more level-headed than a bunch of scattered ragtags implementing Fallout 3 easter eggs for post-apocalyptic 4E Vvardenfell :(

Skyrim can actually be pretty cool when you do have a level 40+ random dragon crash the tutorial and turn the usual 'follow this guy, follow that guy, evade the scripted dragon' into 'Where the fuck is he?! Where did he go?!' while still trying not to be so slow as to get script-killed by Alduin and the NPCs do run in desperate circles, half of them following the script and the other half trying to kill a dragon that should not be here until a few in-game months later.

It does speak wonders of Bethesda that you do need to have the game so modded as to break it beyond recognition for it to be actually AWESOME.
