I know i should be just cautiously fapping too, but as the impatient manboon i am , i will buy this day one with a ps4...Multiplayer coop i guess it may be similar to monster hunter 3 , rogue like generated levels, decent art style, i am hooked already.

Looks cool, but they really need to work on those animations. That knight holds his spear rather awkwardly and runs like he's about to shit his pants. I saw another trailer for this too, apparently there's some retarded Assassin's Creed-like sci-fi angle to the game. Was that shit really necessary?

At the very least, it's nice to see a return of the more traditional dark fantasy look in recent games. I can't stand any more of that tacky D&D and Warhammer inspired garbage.
Where is the warhammer-inspired stuff, besides Twitcher 2? I'll take that anytime over the semi-functional armor + JRPG weapons japan is doing lately.

it has Assassins Creed digging into ones mind to explore shit theme
imo asscreed's "use machine to go into your own genetic memory" stuff is way more retarded than "use your (porbably) psi power to read object memory and have your mind interpret it in an interactive way" stuff that seems to be going on here since the first is way more pretentious by trying to be all scientific.
either way, cautiously fapping for now.

A lot remains to be seen. Some of the marketing stuff around the randomization sounds suspect. Like, one of their examples is that an Ogre might be hairless in one dungeon but then he'll randomly have hair put on him in another dungeon. That's Bethesda-level bullshit right there. I think it's going to be far less interesting than they're making it out to be.

Mainly just referring to over-the-top and impractical armor and character designs. I've no problem with D&D and Warhammer themselves, but rather all the ugly stuff that's been influenced by their artwork, like WoW, Dragon Age, Amalur, various moba games, etc. Basically that exaggerated comic-like fantasy style as a whole, it's been done to death at this point imo.

My bad, I meant Warhammer 40k, should have clarified. That whole exaggerated gigantic armor and weapon style with shoulder pads so big and thick they make the guy's head look tiny. That sort of stuff. It works well for something like W40k since it revels in being over the top, but you can't just adapt that style to to any old setting and expect it to work well imo.

Yeah, I figured as much. But I don't think it has anything to do with 40k, since it has a p. distinct style that you can't copy without being a blatant ripoff (see Warmachine). It has more to do with the new generation of fantasy artists and what they grew up with. This new EQ art illustrates it perfectly:

More support to my theory that Dragon's Dogma is only is good at it is because they farmed it out to another deveoper: it looks like Capcom is using the too-close camera placement from RE6 in DeepD. It's gonna be their thing now. Their shitty, shitty thing.

Dragon's Dogma was developed by Capcom themselves, the same team that made Devil May Cry 3-4. Probably the only real talent left at that company.

But yeah, not sure what to make of the combat shown there. He's using a melee weapon but he aims his attack with an up close over-the-shoulder TPS reticle, like in recent RE games. I guess it's for precision-based attacks but I dunno, looks real clunky to me. M&B handled that a lot better.

Re: fantasy art trends...

Old fantasy Warhammer also looked like this though:
cnLwaUN.jpg

3RUFpeS.jpg

And that era was obviously a huge influence on Blizzard when they did the designs for the original Warcraft RTS. Which in turn was used in WoW, a big influence on the newer generation of artists (along with anime), also WoW clearly influenced many 4th Ed D&D / Pathfinder artists as well, like Wayne Reynolds. Wayne Reynolds in turn has influenced a ton of artists - and so the cycle continues.

Wayne Reynolds:

So basically, Warhammer (filtered through WoW and Wayne Reynolds) + Anime = a lot of modern fantasy art. That said - I actually like Warhammer's style - for Warhammer, but the modern derivatives - not so much.

On topic - Deep Down looks somewhat intriguing. Dark Souls + roguelike would be fine by me.

This is why young people should only be shown the classics until they develop some discernment :obviously:.

Ah well, better this than Rob Liefeld influence that crept up in the 90s, I guess.

Hey look, Capcom decided to rip off Dark Souls!

Looks okay from the video, if there's a PC version might pick it up if it's good.

I really don't understand this fascination with spikes , if you order a modern fantasy artist to draw a soccer ball, there is a big chance of him putting spikes in it.

there are short gameplay bits where the cam is more zoomed out, so there is hope.

What are the odds of a PC port anyway? A lot of capcom stuff was ported...Except Dragon's Dogma.

Also, I'd like to remind everyone that MODERN Warhammer fantasy (i.e. 8th edition) looks like this:

The days of the minor aesthetic incline that was 6th edition are long behind us.

Maybe I was oversimplifying a bit yeah. There has been quite the range of styles in WH. For the record, I totally adore that Ian Miller stuff (the insanely detailed / twisted pen & ink pieces). I wish more artists were influenced by him. If someone made a computer game in that style I'd be all over it.
