Fuck Amalur was the SOOO dissapointing and I hate anything that reminds me of it, like this. It was structurally sound but incredibly boring and dull, even Diablo was more engaging.
I liked the story and lore of POE1
PO2 got better mechanics and side content but overall plot was boring, dropped it 3x after a few hours to play pathminder instead.
This looks to be as disappointing as Amalur, Starfield, Outer Worlds. Games where most components are well made but the Vision is boring barf that feels like grinding in f2p mmo games.

Strap Yourselves In Codex Year of the Donut Codex+ Now Streaming! Enjoy the Revolution! Another revolution around the sun that is.
Sad in a way all this. Old Obsidian would've obviously improved on Skyrim if they were to make their own version.

This crap, however, is considerably worse than Skyrim. Combat is better, vistas are better. Script is about as horroribly shit.

Dude! I've watched several in-depth reviews of this game now. Skyrim's writing is high fucking art compared to this pile of shit. This is -slightly- above Veilguard level writing which is NO high praise. One rung above utter garbage isn't saying much. We don't know how good we had it sitting in the back of the wagon riding towards our execution with the Nords bros...

I don't mind being on this list.
Crispy skips actual great RPGs like Dragon's Dogma 2 and Elden Ring so he can fawn over homosexual DEI propaganda like this crap. What a tard.
Those rolling simulators are not RPGs. They are just action games with some rpg elements.

Nice detail that after you clear the gang in this district Aedyran troops actually move in

what settings are you playing on? this screenshot has that "unreal engine 4" look to it which makes me want to puke

That is what Avowed looks like. It literally looks like an amateur-made Unreal Engine student project.

That's why the big untold story of Larian's success is where the hell the Divinity: Original Sin engine came from when we first saw it in 2012. Who made that, how long did it take and how did they pay for it?
It's the same engine from thier previous games, not sure what the mystery is here. Divinity 2 was broken as hell and the never fixed all the stuttering even with the director's cut. Then they made dragon commander and so they'd been working on the engine for ten years when OS came out.

I know we have a lot of fun here but if you're a grown man and look at this screenshot and think that this might be a fun game to play, then you're simply a gay retard and have no business talking about rpgs. This is for girls aged 6 - 12.
True, no grown heterosexual man would ever tolerate the presence of a woman. Only gays like women!

I'm about 8 hours in and I basically agree with this sentiment.

It feels like they spent as much time as possible on the core components of exploration/combat/upgrades, but there are missing mechanics that most people would expect in a $70 title.

No npc interaction like pickpocketing or theft. No "exploration" skills like lockpicking or movement abilities to access new areas. Npcs feel hollow, and not just because of poor lipsyncing. Relatively shallow rpg mechanics. No fishing or lockpicking mini games, etc, etc.

It feels like they decided in pre-production that they were going all-in on the core loop of exploration/combat/upgrades, and everything else would be getting minimal attention.

So the world has lots of verticality for exploring, combat is satisfying enough for what it is, and there's tons of loot to find. But it doesn't do any of those things exceptionally well, and the game wears thin when it has to look beyond those elements.

It kind of reminds me of Solasta, in the sense that you can tell that the devs were relatively unambitious in their production goals, but that they hit those goals pretty well. It just leaves the players wondering why the game is missing features that we see from other games with the same genre and price.

With all of that said, the combat has gotten better in these 8 hours. I enjoy the mindless platforming exploration and finding unique items. The environments they crafted are very well suited for exploration. The core loop is solid, but it's way too lean for $70. I don't care about getting value for money when I buy games - but when I look at Avowed in my library next to BG3 and Elden Ring, I know in my heart that I got ripped off.

Still fun tho. 7/10 so far

WTF bro, there's no need to insult Unreal Engine student projects so harshly.

Is that what you took in from looking at that screenshot? Interesting. Updating autists.txt

I liked this graffiti of the locals butthurt about Aedyr coming in and forcing them to live in the favelas

there's a lot of neat little references to past Pillars of Eternity games, a lot of them obvious but some of them small

game is just undercooked, not looking good for Outer Worlds 2

I thought these are Aedyr people. Why are people on that picture black?

This went through all kinds of dev hell, TOW 2 is a sequel to something that already laid down a solid foundation.
Well, I have weird feeling that original foundation didn't have enough black people, and didn't have sufficient number of bossy females.
Also wasn't Outer Worlds' ending like: "The main character plotted course directly into the sun, and activate engines of his spaceship..." Yea it was like
-"I'm ready to skip Hope." -
-"Are you sure it will void the warranty of ship's drive?"
-"I'm skipping it myself."
-"In case I don't get another chance to say it. It's been interesting Captain."
-"Stand back, I know numbers real good."

Yea, they had jump close to the sun ending. But nobody said captain couldn't ram another numbers into computer.

It had lots of those, people here were griping about it at the time as usual.

I think like 90% of the Aedyrans in-game are white? The Aedyr ambassador is, most soldiers are, those two Aedyran outlaws that you can help are, the Steel Garrote captain is...

You know, I think they could trick more people into buying the game if it was 59.99 instead of 69.99.
That extra 16 and change percent more cost + a lot of doubt will make people go investigate "wait, what is this" instead of mindlessly clicking buy.

I'm apparently never going to convince anyone, but $70 price tag is clearly an effort to funnel people into GamePass.

Given that they even loudly let you play the game early if you have a more expensive version of GamePass, they are strongly and deliberately underscoring the value of GamePass.

BTW when you compare this to Eternal Strands, is this better game or not?

Yea there are "white" on the wiki page. That why is weird the "graffiti of the locals" shows black people. Perhaps this game has a quest where main character finds that a band of greedy black mercenaries was hired by Aedyran empire, and then they plundered innocent natives.
(Actually that would be pretty cool.)

Explored a first zone for a ~10 hours, so far my main issue with Avowed is that it tries to be an AAA RPG, if Obsidian just made an action-adventure game, on a little bigger scope than Grounded(say around 30-50 developers) it would solve a lot of problems:
1. Writing. I couldn’t stand any NPC dialogues, your responses are even worse. There was single interesting exchange so far, it was me clicking on banners and some Benjamin Franklin looking dwarf giving short descriptions of said banner factions. Everything else pure garbage. Women can’t write shit, the 0.001% who can are either writing books or films. You should’ve had one guy coming up with some simple story, some interesting banter then you click on NPCs and occasional short conversations. I would’ve argued that PC should’ve been an established character as well, but in current year he’d probably be some hideous sarcastic chick, so a blank slate it is then. Also, no companions.
2. Loot and progression. There wouldn’t be any need to constantly return to camp to upgrade gear in order to deal some damage, instead you would progress by interacting with environment; be it completing some quests, beating bosses. learning from teachers or finding books/items. Basically cut out all unneeded stuff like attributes, perk trees and upgrades, instead focus on adding some interesting abilities and items.
3. Main Quest. As I said before, they should’ve written a simple story with a simple goal. Say, in a first zone your objective is to find some person in the city, which is currently looked down due to plague. And instead of there being an overlywritten main quest to guide you through, you have a variety of options to enter the city(think of Strip Gate in FNV), maybe you just find a way to jump through the roofs, enter through sewers, complete some quest for a guard, give him money or item you find while exploring, align with a faction etc. In short, you’d have a freeform exploration game, not an R-P-G, with fake C&C.
4. Pricing and marketing. Not like I care for how much the game costs (I’d pirate it anyway), but if Avowed was a smaller project, maybe daddy MS would sell it for $50(doubtful since they want Gamepass subscriptions),and normies would excuse some junkiness. The whole “we’re making Skyrim 2.0” statement(although they take it back, but who cares) didn’t help the game either, now everyone shits on Avowed for not having a typical Bethesda simulation stuff.

Tldr: Feargus should’ve asked Adam and his team(with additional 20-30 developers) do an Action-Adventure game in Eora’s setting, instead of giving it to Parker, then tossing it to Carry with Her Queer and Gay Friends
