It's why the 'tumblr art style' has become so common, even in main games. The exaggerated noses, the androgynous and infantile aesthetics, the obsession with ethnic features/dark skin. None of it is natural.

Um, it was the further guard post east of Southern Embrace called Emerald Stair Gatehouse and Precarious Hold. Miriamele has just received access to Paradis, so I am looking forward to hopefully, having a full fledged city to explore with all the polish to make it look and feel like a city.

The conversation option, even with the context of knowing before hand he is found as an injured virgin who never touched a girl, does come off as ambiguous in a remarkable way.

1: "Kai, we can't let this kid die a virgin. We've got to help him."

OR

1: "Kai, we can't let this kid die a virgin. Can you help him?" [Wink with big smile.]

GOSH never mind that a lot of the conversation choice requirements normally require 1 or 2 points. I have yet to see a 5 or 6 requirement to choose as a conversation node, but it would most likely just lead to a conversation node that you can pick without any sort of requirement.

Anyway, Kai has his sights on another hole. The kid's safe for the time being.

You have the classic example of "You don't have enough points, spend a resource to get a desired outcome" versus "You have enough points to succeed without having to spend resources".

What surprises me here is how pathetically low the requirement is. 1? Can you have 0? Or do you "spend" points, like you did in Tides of Numenera?.

i watched the first 50 minutes of the game and i think i am able to condense what is wrong with obsidian's writing quality (probably since PoE 1, but at least since The Outer Worlds) in this time-stamped conversation.

the captain of the local militia mistakes you for some stranger, she expects the "envoy" (HIGHLY important right? sent directly by the emporer...at least one NPC in the first part of the game also doesn't get tired to tell you how special you are). she can't even wait to tell you that she hopes he died down at sea, because that's exactly what anyone in the real world would tell a complete stranger one just met.

"oh, you are the envoy haha, so funny. let's start over okay?"

then she immediately goes on to tell you, the aedyran envoy, how "aedyrans couldn't find their ass with both their hands".

blabla your next quest objective is to find the ambassador.

"oh btw the steel garrote is in town, this violent order of paladins, ready to follow any command of the empire. they suck."

this is the fourth interactable NPC you meet in the game (excluding Kai). this is how you are introduced to this world. one could argue that it's just about telling the player what a savage place the living worlds is, but my assumption is that if the writers were aware of what they are doing, there would be at least an option to tell the captain to go back to a place where they service men, where she obviously belongs. best thing they can do is "i won't report you, if you are respectful".

it lacks any decency, it's like whoever wrote this never thought that certain positions require a minimum of professionalism. it's also just plain silly. those people life in a bubble in california and 90% of their verbal output consists of "i guess", "that just happened" and "don't mansplain me".
