Codex 2014 Serpent in the Staglands Shadorwun: Hong Kong A Beautifully Desolate Campaign
I think the old video looked better, graphically speaking.

Agreed. I also feel like there are several things that are a regression rather than a progression. Dialogue screen and UI included.

What's up with fucking Elroy running up the hill just after we kill his wife?

Not the greatest expamples of C&C in this video. But then it's obviously something that's hard to show in a short demo.

Really no liking the square grid - more specifically, having seen how the combat worked on the hex grid. :(

So would that guy have appeared regardless of whether you killed his wife or not?

Not sure if I dig the keyword dialogue.
Fully formed questions appear when you hover over them, so it's basically the same thing as just listing a bunch of responses.

Sweeet. The graphics are decent, but that shitty LED AP counter still looks out of place to me. It is almos ridiculous how the devs don't see that. But it is OK, because everything else looks amazing. Honestly, I'm loving it, and can't wait to play it.

We aren't particularly enthusiastic about that particular element either. We'll see if we can't change it in the next pass, we're not at final yet after all.

Didn't it use to have a hex grid? Or am I thinking of something else?
It did.

It was already asked why they changed it but BN is being p. quiet about it. :M

Yes, this is what I thought first when saw the video. The UI was better for sure. I think, the art direction in general leaves much to be desired. It would be great if Boyarsky could make this part but we have what we have. Anyway, there is still great potential in Wasteland 2. Looking forward for future updates.

I think the UI is going in the right direction. In fact, I would accept it as it is, if they change the LED counter. As for graphics, it could use a little polish, maybe some a little darker tone, and a little less floaty movement animation. But maybe this is all you can do with the Unity engine in 3D.

The game looks really good, I can hardly wait to play it. :D But, Of course, I need to bitch about a few minor things. :obviously:

  • The dot-matrix AP counter is crap (I know that BN said that it will almost certainly be replaced)
  • I don't like a listed inventory. But it isn't a game breaker, so I can live with it. At least some decent icons for the items would be nice, the yellow fallout 3 cut-out style icon crap is fugly.
  • The movement speed does not fit the animation speed. It's like the Rangers are walking on an invisible moving walkway or something.
  • What happened to the hex grid? No big deal really, just kind of weird that you can't walk/run diagonaly while in combat.

You should look at the schoo-gym-clock-thingy some guys messed around with here. That looked sort of cool.

My only major complaint about the UI at this juncture is the list-inventory, but I've had that since the beginning and for some reason you guys seem to think lists are all the rage, so I guess that has 0 chance of being changed?

This area is a bit graphically dull compared to the Ag Center. Shame about that, now the graphics whores will whine.
The ag center was blurry brown and green shit, this is an improvement.

Yeah, those orange symbols for objects in the inventory look crappy. Why not use the same color pictures which you can see on the main screen in the weapon slot?

Wasteland 2:

Skyrim with SkyUI:

FFS inXile, you couldn't find a better UI to copy?

People are so obsessed with Skyrim they make remotely similar out to be taken/copied from it. After all Skyrim must have been the first game that could categorize items, right?

The gameplay is looking solid - though hexes will be missed. Not fond of the eye-searing yellow of the environment but I'm sure that will either be fixed by modders or a later polish pass.

And list inventory is proper old-school just like Wasteland 1:

I don't mind the list inventory (although the yellow item icons could be replaced by something better-looking). Graphics look fine too. GFX-whores can go play Far Cry 3 instead.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the effective use of voice acting in the right places, to give more characterization and set some mood. Good job.

Really looking forward to this one.
