New update and the art is too fucking small! :rage:

It is pretty neat though. If only they'd release a higher res version of that concept art. I'd put it up as my desktop wallpaper in a moment.

The background's not how I'd imagine WL2's landscape to look though, but then again WL1's colour palette looks nothing like its cover art :X

I don't know... I do like the art and think that it looks cool but the rest of the update was just kind of... underwhelming. I would hope that each and every one would generate excitement about what's going into the game not how many people will have jobs because of this. Again, the update itself isn't bad because it just means more of a game we want to see but at this point I'd hope we would actually see or hear about more of it than just one picture.

It's still very early - I doubt they have much to show at all that is ready for any sort of public consumption. The format of Kickstarter reduces the customary distance between us and devs, so we expect more frequent and substantial exposure and the devs will feel they should, as well. But the other consequence of this feedback loop is increased scrutiny of information given, and an even more myopic perspective where every update generates wild debate and concern. I think these early projects need to handle that carefully. Once the money-raising period is over it would be nice if they settled into a regular schedule of updates, like more substantial versions of dev diaries with more insight into the production process.

I don't need to see anything substantial like in game engine shots ;) but what about this vision document they have. Maybe some snippets from that document would generate more excitement. Heck, having MCA read a few paragraphs from the vision document would probably increase pledges by $100,000 overnight!!!

Also, it seems like the vision document will not be ready for perusal before the end of the drive. There's not a lot of "meat" you can show for a game this early in its design stages.

I'll google "stock trading algorithm" and implement that right away. But in all seriousness, it's a projection based on collected data. I don't care how magical an algorithm is, if you have one sampling of data and a period to projected it onto, of course it's going to be wildly inaccurate, especially at the start of a kickstarter campaign which I cover in detail in a thread over at BGG: http://boardgamegeek.com/article/8849498#8849498

The longer the campaign goes the more reasonable the projection gets. Once it gets out of the initial pledge ramp, the projection will get more in-line with realistic projections.

Would you rather not even see a projection after a certain period of time so it's more accurate?

Pretty much this yeah. I'm really excited to see what they've planned, and a bit disappointed they're still in the teasing stages, but I'd rather have them properly draw out their ideas and then putting them up in one glorious exhibition. Makes one very curious to know what's going on in their conferences right now though ;)

Adam: The point is that you should look at the history of other, similar projects, and not just the one you're predicting. For example, there's good reason to believe that Wasteland 2's Kickstarter will have a curve similar to Double Fine's.

Even if it maintains the rate $40k a day, (dubious) we'd need something like 500k in the last day for $3m target. Mod kit should have been $2.5m target, because the current target goals should have
been already included in when we passed the initial funding target. I don't think just Linux client and obsidian contribution costs or deserves a $1.1m . if they don't I wonder what else they were planning to spend money on other than the content and artwork...

I'm happy with MCA being in board, everything extra is not really needed in my opinion, we got the important bases covered - linux support, quality writing, expanded world compared to original proposal.. and cash extra would just be to show adventurefags that rpgfags can do it too, and get us an even wider world, with some more bling.. But I doubt that with a 2.2mil budget it will disappoint or feel uncomplete. Well, last week is on, last day bump will be interesting, could bring in half a mil and then wel'll end at somewhere between 2.5 and 3. I would love it to beat Double Fine for great justice, but I see no immediate need to up the pledge.
