What abour Rites of War, is it good?
I wouldn't call it great. More like decent. It's basically dumbed-down Steel Panthers crossed with dumbed-down tabletop Epic. The AI was pretty bad, especially in skirmish mode and vehicles were made of glass.hanssolo said:Awor Szurkrarz said:What was the last game that was a decent representation of what goes on in the Wh40k setting?
Space Hulk 2? Chaos Gate? Final Liberation?
After that there was a constant spam of abstractfag games that don't represent anything.
Chaos Gate was so good, pity it's less stable than PtD.

This topic is now about Chaos Gate. thx.
Final Liberation was pretty great, too.
Rites of War was the moment when they moved from simulationfag to abstractfag and they have never returned. It has lovely graphics and cool voiced briefings, though.Excidium said:What abour Rites of War, is it good?

It had an awesome actor playing that commissar, though.

Final Liberation, despite its faults was still a wargamer game. It just didn't utilize the power of computers that allows making a bigger scale game without sacrificing detail (like for example vehicle damage, multiple weapons per squad, etc.) and the developers didn't have skills to implement the organization and command & control rules from Epic (IIRC you don't just move and fire squad by squad in Epic and there are rules that make you do a leadership test for doing stuff like ordering detachment to shoot something other than the nearest target and stuff like that).hanssolo said:Awor Szurkrarz said:I wouldn't call it great. Well, shit, it wasn't a game for strat-fags, sure. I had some fun with hotseat multiplayer though. 40k really got cold-shouldered as far as strategy games go, other than Chaos Gate. At least Fantasy got Shadow of the Horned Rat and Dark Omen.
They could have went the real time simulation route as with the WHB games. Just imagine something like Close Combat set in the WH40k. They just went for RTS and abstractfag shooters because they sell the best.Excidium said:It's probably because they don't want "competition" with the tabletop game.

Could be talking out of his ass, though. I guess we'll see.Definitely! The "Normal" mode will hand you your butt if you are not prepared for it. Honestly, I'd recommend starting on Easy if you want to get a good feel for the game and then go on normal. For those purists, Normal will be great from the getgo. If you have those sado-masochist urges then please go for hard. :D The AI is restricted a bit on Easy meaning they won't attack you as much though once they bite in, it is hard to dislodge them. There are a variety of moves though so you have plenty of tactics to squish some Orcs. Against Chaos it is truly overwhelming firepower and CONSTANT movement. On Normal the enemies behave, well, normally. You will be attacked on site and they hit with a normal punch. Be glad for those moments of breathe between battles when they come as this is going to be frenetic.
