Welcome back Drog. Nice new change log. Looks familiar for some reason... :P

EDIT: This has been a quest that has bugged me for a long time due to how it can be solved. Solve The Garringsburg Painting Robbery. We all know where the painting is but there are several ways you can get the painting. Fighting your way in and sneaking your way in is a no problem. What bugs me is how it can be solved without combat. The exact way to do this is by first receiving the quest to deliver the note to Robby Limes without opening the note. The note reads the location of the painting. While on the quest to deliver the note, you simply have to have that quest active [not completed or botched] and look at Robby Limes' passport. That's it. You talk to the guard and with the right dialog, he gives you the key. You don't even have to read the note, yet you know what it says. And this can only be done while on the note delivery quest, if you botch or complete it, you cannot get the painting the the manner I just listed. Bribing the door man and researching in the hall of records doesn't help this. What I am proposing is this... If you don't read the note, you don't know what it says. Researching Robby Limes should open up the ability to give intelligent responses to the guard. Have it as an option to botch the note delivery quest [reading the note and then giving it to Mr. Limes and thus he attacks you] and you can take a peak at his passport and still talk your way past the painting guard. Does this make sense? It seems more logical to have these other options to be possible. If Drog permits this, perhaps we should look into this?

Welcome back, master!

Now to business

In Tulla,Simon Tor's icon is pure technology(two pistols), which makes no sense.

After met Arronax for the first time, I still can meet him, this time he won't start the dialogue. If I don't talk to him, then I can meet him for the third time(seems at the same direction on world map); after talk to him, he will disappear for ever, which should be happened far before.

thank you Drog for ur amazing work.

we are currently doing some translation on the game, hoping to make a chinese edition of Arcanum. It's a tough job, i'd say. During our compiling, we come acros some maybe errors in dlg. I would like to present some here for suggestions:

01012

{80}{Neither will my blade and you're innards. Hand it over.}{}{5}{}{88}{}

{89}{Please. It pains me to hear such hollow claims.}{}{5}{}{}{co, fl 80}

{126}{Uh? I no dullerd! I smash you skull!}{}{-4}{}{}{co, fl 80}

i think line 89 and 126 are questionable, are they?

thanks again.

Interesting. It'd be pretty hard to compile the fonts, but still possible. Good luck to you with your translation.

It should be "your".

Yes, they're floating a PC line (80). In fact, all floats in this dialog are wrong. The correct line for floats is 93, but it's never called. You should change all floats (at lines 89, 97, 106, 126) to 93. Thanks for mentioning this.

That's the race icon, it means he's human.

Ah,I'm typing too fast.

By the way, usually after end one quest, I can get next one from thieves; but this time in Tarant the thieves wouldn't give another quest, though I have just finished one normal quest and the Kree idol quest.

Maybe it's because I haven't finished any thieves quest in Caladon?

Awesome work :D

I recently played Arcanum again with your patch and the 1024x768 mod, and it was a awesome experience

few things I'd like to mention:

Dagger of Speed doesnt seem to work (at least for me) it doesnt give me the speed bonus, and on the other hand the hexed sword of haste that can be found at the Dark Elves Base (chest near the magician that enslaved the Ogers) does give me the speed bonus, just pointing this out in case its some bug

One sugestion about game palance:

the Dark Helm, Im very glad that you fixed the exploit of maxing out the magic but repetedly puting it on and off again but I also found that this great Helm can be simply bought at a trader for a mere ~1700 coins In my opinions its just waaay to easy to get it this way
The Dark Helm is a very nice reward for killing a boss in the undead castle in Ashbury and should require some effort :P

of course the problem is that many magic weapons can be bought in the same way (for example the inferno hammer)

tell me what you think =]

on a side note Im working on a speedrun of Arcanum I still need to count the real time it took but I managed to kill Kerghan at lvl 28 :D I will probably make a video and a guide at some point (oh and its a solo speedrun)

cheers and thanks again for the great patch

The speed bonus is for the weapon, not the character. If you have enough magickal aptitude the dagger gets +4 speed.

It has always been this way. The patch has no intention of changing the game balance.

Jormund and Wrath murder mystery inconsistencies... Before I even spoke with Jormund, I spoke with Wrath and through dialog I initiated combat and killed him. Afterwards I spoke with Jormund and everyone acted normally, including myself. Making no note that Wrath is dead, that I killed him, or anything. When given the quest to free Jormund from his contract, I checked out Warth's body, that I murdered myself, and there was no poison vile. The guard that normally appears in front of Jormund's home still appeared. I spoke with the guard outside of Jormund's home and he claimed that Jormund is suspected of murder but I was not because witnesses said I was seen wandering around Qintarra. So there are several illogical dialog options for just about everyone who are involved with this quest line.

EDIT: When speaking to Swyft as an half orc with 38 reaction, I get a typical half orc reaction. I took line 6 because my other option would end dialog. Swyft responds with "Why should I talk to you? I don't think I like you too much." My choices after that is either 151 or 152. 152 leading to combat but the line for 151 does not make much sense: "That's alright. I'm just passing through, regardless." This seems rather odd, is perhaps a broken line?

thanks for the reply Drog Black Tooth

2 more questions : (sorry if this has been anwsered before Im new to the forum)

1. Do you know what is the "Unknown Area" in the maximum top right corner of the world map? is there any way to get to that location or is it some old content that never made it in the final version?

2.not sure if this is the problem of my pc or the resolution mod but sometimes my game pauses for a few seconds, its not really a big problem but Its annoying when it happens during my speedrun project

thanks in advance for any info

Quick question about Signet of Shadows, from what I undestand as far as the game mechanics are concerned it works like this:

It grants you an automatic invisibility spell but you loose health and fatigue points over time
(at least in real time, in combat mode I wasnt loosing health nor energy)

when you take it off quickly (I mean before you pass out ) the spell wears off

but when you leave it on and pass out (knockdown) and then put it in inventory you are invisibile forever

is it a bug or just an exploit ?

Interesting. Seems like this quest is unfinished (or not properly tested anyway). There's no extra scripting, no extra lines in the dialogs of either Jormund or the guard for the situation where the PC kills Wrath before talking to Jormund. The best we can do is just block the whole quest if Wrath gets killed by the PC, i.e. once Wrath is killed Jormund won't talk to the PC (he will be just floating generic greetings). Any objections?

You think so? I'm not sure. Let's hear some other opinions. The dialog goes like this:
"[insert a rude greeting here]"
"Excuse me, I mean no offense."
"Why should I talk to you? I don't think I like you too much."
"That's alright. I'm just passing through, regardless."
"Oh, you're an adventurer, aren't you? I thought you were just another boring traveler. I am sorry if I was rude."
etc

There's nothing there, it's just a side effect of the area system.

There shouldn't be such a problem, try running the game in the safe mode (by using the safe mode shortcut or "-no3d" command line argument). If the problem isn't present in the safe mode, you can try updating your video card drivers.

That's a problem with the engine, I will have to look into it. I suspect the game stops checking whether the item is equipped or not if a critter is unconscious/dead, thus the effect doesn't get switched off.

Hmm, it seems without adding a bit of content you could give Jormund a special dialog, a generic one does not seem fitting. Something like "I cannot talk right now, I have things to attend to". Hinting that something dramatic is going on. Instead of a simple "Greetings." More suggestions please.

Looking back, it seems it could be fine. It just seems borderline-okay to me. Maybe "No need to be rude. I'm just passing through, regardless." I could be wrong though.

Excellent patch!

Is there any way to make the journal open at the last page instead of the first page?

Its pretty tedious to have to click through 20+ pages every time you want to see the latest quest or note...

Haha... ... ... Yeah, I would love to know that too...

EDIT: Minor typo. Robert Milton, in the poacher camp in the Dark Fens says in line 16: a'cryin' as one word. Should it not be a cryin'? Or maybe a' cryin'? Thoughts?
