Unofficial Arcanum Patch (Original Thread)

Probably on my PC playing Arcanum
Minor grammatical error. The thug orcs that sulk during the nights in Tarant say "eh, what?" when the player is a half-orc. Shouldn't the e be capitalized? "Eh, what?" Or maybe "'eh, what?"?

EDIT: Shouldn't the Vile of Dragon's Blood be removed from your inventory when used on Torian Kel since there is no other use for it?

EDIT: A description with the Plastique and Detonator does not seem correct. Both descriptions are identical. Which is not the problem except that they both say " [Only for use with Plastique]". Should not the description for the Plastique be "[Only for use with the Detonator]"?

I do believe this has already been reported but there seems to be some errors with the Strong Poison being marked as an explosive with some schematics. Examples are Envenomed Sword, Envenomed Axe, Envenomed Bow, and Poison Arachnid. Perhaps some others.

Not a bug, but a question. Would it make sense to have certain shopkeepers gain reaction towards you when you gain high enough technical/magickal aptitude? It is odd being praised at the junk dealer for being a technical genius but is still suspicious towards me because I am a half-orc. Thoughts?

Hope your break works out well for you Drog... you have a knack for building suspense. Still haven't found any bugs yet, but I have been doing through a standard play through - no speed play at all. Dare I say this thing is near completion..?!

I have a smaller question: Why is every "Magick" replaced with "Magic"? At first I thought it might be because "Magick" is wrong written or stuff like that... (english is not my main language as you guys may see)
But then again.. I took a look at the wikipedia page about "Magick" and now I am wondering why it has been changed.

Quoted from wiki:
Magick is not capable of producing "miracles" or violating the physical laws of the universe (e.g., it cannot cause a solar eclipse), although "it is theoretically possible to cause in any object any change of which that object is capable by nature".
I think it's explain everything in magick vs. magic question. Magick is fun word and sounds great, but wrong.

there are a couple bugs as you are leaving the dark elf city. as i was walking out, virgil decided to leave the party to run off to caladon. there was still a half-ogre prisoner alive from my earlier prison break, and as soon as virgil was out of the party the ogre attacked him. this also gave me the chance to talk to virgil again, once i'd killed the ogre i'd saved so he wouldnt murder my pack mule. after talking to virgil, he had apparently reset back to square 1, and was discussing the blimp crash, back in party, and caladon was forgotten about.

Didn't see this issue brought up yet, but has anyone ever had trouble minimizing Arcanum? Minimizing and going back into the game results in the PC freezing black, and even my monitor power light going dead. I have the latest UP installed.

FWIW, I never try this with older games--and I consider Arcanum to be an older game. Your best bet is to save the game, quit the game so you go to the main menu (the one with Single Player, Multiplayer, Options, and Exit Game) and minimize from there. It should work fine. When you are ready start again, just select Single Player to access the Saved Games menu and you are good to go.

Is there any way to uninstall this patch? I just installed it, and now for some reason when I try to go down past the first level in the Black Mountain Dwarf area, the next location won't load and the little stopwatch icon spins around crazily. I can still ESC out to the main menu. I've been to the location before, and the only obvious thing that has changed has been the UAP installation (I'm pretty sure I was on the most recent patch beforehand).

Any help on undoing the patch or circumventing the problem would be most appreciated.

I have sometimes the same problem. Try to switch to de Desktop, then it should work. If not, you have to load an older savegame.

An other problem could be, that you have to start a new game with the UAP!

Sry if there are any mistakes in spelling or grammar.

Backup saves & reinstall game. I can't think of many games where you can uninstall patches.
Do you experience similar problems if you start a new game? Drog said that old saves may not work with new versions of the patch.

This does look like you are trying to add the patch to an existing game. As The Vanished One stated, when you add the patch, you need to start a new game--especially if you plan to return to areas you have already explored before adding the patch.

With regard to removing the patch, Drog stated the procedure earlier in this thread (which is not easy to find in such a long thread). I can't remember the page, so you will have to look manually (or reinstall, or start a new game).

Well shit, I wasn't aware I'd have to restart (in my defense, I thought the notice in the first post was warning against continuing games from older official patched versions and that the latest would be alright...)

Anyway, thanks both, and @The Vanished One: guess I'll give that whirl, though I was trying to avoid it.

Yeah, none of the unofficial patches have been compatible with saved games from any of the official patch releases. For the record, even installing official patches to vanilla Arcanum has required restarting games. (I am not sure if that is true for all official patch releases, but it is true if you go from vanilla Arcanum to the 1.0.7.4 official patch, for example.) The moral of the story is that patches do not behave well with existing games, which is probably true with a lot of games, actually.

OK, I'm back. I'll get back to bug fixing right away and there should be a shiny new version before Christmas.

For now, take a look at the new changelog, I hope this one is easy to read. Also, I found the in-game cheat mode (original cheats that Troika used for testing, they were disabled in the final build) some time ago and posted it on T-A, but forgot to post it here. So here it is. Have fun!

Welcome back, Drog. :)

Changelog now looks much better, but IMHO colors for [C] and is too bright. Maybe colors #007700 for and #663300 for [C] will be better?
