The base damage calculation is weapon based but it is amplified by +X% poison gear/talents.

This opens up possibilities for retarded damage output then. I got some +60% to poison damage belt and +20% shoulders i can't use yet.

Gambling makes game boring the rate at which you get oranges is insane.

Yeah, overall I think they put too many uniques on the Gambler -- they were a bit more scarce on the Gambler in TL1.

I play embermage(currently lvl 41) on elite and it's the best class ever:

synergy:
- 1 point in prysmatic bolt
- 5 points in emenetal autunement
- 5 ponits in each of the brands

and 1 in teleport(not part of the synergy)

kicks ass( 3-4 K dmg - when mobs affected by all dots)
got 16 skill points to spare
rocks

And so ends the story of my level 45 Engineer. A random War Troll on Veteran difficulty in Act 3 one shot killed me even though I had full health and almost full set of uniques with loads of armor, health and resists. :MGoes to show how useless Vitality is though. In the end it didn't make a difference at all. Even Bulwark wouldn't have saved my ass. But that's the way the cookie crumbles, I guess. I was getting a little bored with the Engie anyway. Was doing a Cannon + Bots run. It only started to take off at level 42, and even then not that much. Pretty boring class to be honest. Will probably not play that character ever again.

But on the other hand I have a shitton of stuff in my shared stash for other HC characters now. I mean literally my stash is filled with nothing else but uniques that I can feed to my other characters. Wanted to get to the Alchemist so I could farm some awesome unique weapons, but this was not the destiny of David Bowie. Perhaps Perry Farrell is the chosen hero?

Going to do the same just on normal hardcore where the chances of dying are pretty much zero unless you go afk. The problem with vitality on the higher difficulties is that in order to get enough of it that matters you have to sacrifice some damage output and in the end you're just better off trying to avoid damage and killing things fast. Longer fights = more chances you have of making a mistake and getting one/two shot. I saw someone on the Runic forums suggest farming Grell for the % total damage reduction gems. If you get like 6-7 that's 20% reduction. Ultimately it makes more of a difference than armor, vitality or resistances.

TBH this game is pretty damn fun from the little I've played of it so far. It certainly feels more akin to Diablo 2 than Diablo 3 did, anyway. I think I'm going to stick on Elite because my ego won't let me play a lower difficulty. :smug:

It's not that bad, just kind of a battle of the wills against the HP/damage bloat. Fun shit though. I'm sure the charm will wear off like it did with D3 for me but it's fun while it lasts so far.
Fate was fun, TL1 was fun, but I don't know about you, but I get tired of same old, same old after a while which is what this is... It's ONLY claims to fame are adding the masses moronic cry for MP and overland pseudo maps, beyond that it's well, erm, FATE yet again...

I'm only at lvl 16 and I'm already bored by the Engineer class. It's sad, considering the fact that I do more damage with a sword.
Anyway, it seems that I'm too old for this type of games. I really tried, but I cannot find fun in this game. Too many stupid weapons, too many mobs, too many clicks ...

I have deep respect for HC players, I would punch a hole through my monitor if that shit happened to me.

Poison Burst
Rank 1/15
You coat your weapons with a venomous agent. If an enemy is killed, there is a chance it will explode in a 6 meter cloud of poison, damaging enemies that come into contact with it.
Always Active
Inflicts 50% of Weapon DPS as Poison
12% chance on kill to Explode

It doesn't add 50% poison damage, it just makes monsters explode(dealing poison dmg at 50% weapon dps in a radius) when you kill them and it was fixed by the latest patch. Now the % chance to trigger works correctly with range attacks too, not just melee attacks.

I wouldn't raise my hopes too high if I were you, sure you'll see damage, no doubt, but nothing like 'retarded' stuff. I'm pretty sure the % to poison damage from gear is just added to the focus stat as a modifier before the game calculates the damage. It does not add to your overall poison damage. I had on my outlander a total of ~ 110 % to poison damage from items and master of the elements was maxed at my current level, but the damage was not mind blowing at all.

The problem with physical dmg in this game:
lvl 100 full str build and lvl 100 legendary bow: 2000 dmg -> post soak: 1 + 500 electrical dmg -> post abs: 500, 1 point glave without any other poison bonus: 3900 dmg
lvl 100 full focus with glaive throw and master of the elements: 35000 dmg

With max str from stats and a weapon with 1028 physical, 514 electrical, 534 fire - result from a hit on dummy is: http://i.imgur.com/V46X3.png

Indeed. The more I tinker around with the various classes the more I realize the balance and a lot of the mechanics are fairly questionable. Not enough to make it a bad game, it's still a good game, but the sloppiness takes away from some of the replay value. A lot of builds would be pretty tedious on the higher difficulty levels. And sure I can always play on normal but it doesn't present much of a challenge. Runic would have greatly benefited from a proper two or three month beta (as opposed to the two week one) where people could have done the experimenting and QA work a company of thirty-ish people cannot. Ideally they probably wanted it but they spent so much time jerking around with God knows what delaying their release estimations multiple times they probably felt they just had to get it out the door. That said, there's always the possibility to fix some things with patches.

You just need to have the right mindset for it. For me dying is not the end, but a natural part of the HC cycle. I laughed my ass off when I died. For me, dying in HC is funny as hell.

Hardcore singleplayer? Meh...It's still my preferred method (Vet), but hardcore only really starts to shine when you're playing multiplayer. Elite becomes an absolutely hilarious clusterfuck with a group of people playing hardcore.

Way too much shit going on in a group -- I'd apt to die just because I can't see my character through all the spell effects.

Same weapon test on veteran: http://i.imgur.com/dutW3.png (vs http://i.imgur.com/V46X3.png on elite). They just upped the armor like mongoloids without even thinking how would affect game balance...
Not like damage would be balanced between physical and elemental anyway. Also it seems really weird than in a game with so much focus on armor, spells go right through.

Who said I play singleplayer? I play TL2 with friends.

It's not like I warned everyone a couple of pages ago. A crit by those guys is oneshot, except if you have 2 charges forcefield.

But venomous hail deals poison damage, not physical, it just scales off physical damage.

Yeah, it is kind of funny how similar Torchlight, especially Torchlight 2 is to Fate. There are a few Fate games and TL2 looks like a more polished version of them. I think the font is even the same.

Torchlight 2 doesn't bring anything new to the table, but it's a fun little diversion. The loot system and that kind of stuff is more fun to me than D3 anyway.

Ah, my mistake. I assumed you were simply based on the fact that most people in this thread were and you were playing on what I consider to be the ideal single player difficulty.

Oh, and Metro, I'm pretty sure you can turn the particle effects down, but I can't recall exactly how off the top of my head (Although, if I ever do a multiplayer hardcore run, I most definitely will be turning them down. The end game became a complete visual clusterfuck with only two people).

Stumbled across a week old article that covered a Reddit Q&A done with Runic. Apparently they've abandoned the concept of a Torchlight MMO (which had been the plan since before TL1) -- their reasoning sort of makes sense in that they explain how daunting it was to create as much content as they did for TL2. Can't really see them pushing out anywhere near enough content for an MMO with their current size. As far as what they'll do now:

Regarding the studio's plans for the future, Runic said that it doesn't really know what it wants to do next, but that it would like to take a break from RPGs for a while.
"It's pretty up in the air," Erich Schaefer said. "We have a lot of cool ideas and nothing pinned down yet. From my perspective, I think we'll probably continue to incorporate RPG elements and randomisation in some new hybrid, character-based game. Maybe with more of a sand-box openness? Maybe with unpredictable emergent or procedural content. I can pretty much guarantee it'll have loot, though!"

I wish this game had better graphics, tbh. I mean, I know that it isn't supposed to be a graphics intense game, but I still wish there was at least an Option for it....
The Shogun is disappoint. Game's graphics is a Shamfur display.
