ThiefOfficial was closed by Game Informer apparently. It was indeed a great channel with lots of old gems like the first Dark Project trailers and all, when the game wasn't called Thief yet.

EDIT: I have the OSTs of all three games so I can re-upload them on Youtube if there's demand.

Do you also have the cool fan remixes that were on ThiefOfficial, and the Hammerite Imperium soundtrack? I'd like to see those back again.

Also, why Game Informer? Do you have any more info on this?

The fact that Garrett is a rogue and thus cannot sneak attack undead is what makes thieving around them so interesting in the series. I hope they keep at least several zombies. Farting dinosaurs .. ehh they can go.
I don't know what is worse this being a reboot or if they should have gone with a sequel. Sequel means taking thief 3 story into account while a reboot means they will brand the series with their own shit.

I have some of the tracks from The Hammerite Imperium, yes, but not the remixes.
Andrei (the owner of the channel) said it was closed after he uploaded the Game Informer trailer on his channel. Guess these guys are worse than vultures, and apparently Eidos Montreal has nothing to do with it since he was in contact with them and had good relations.

I've dug up a post from TTLG 3 months ago, after I was through a playthrough of Thief 1 & 2. Thought I'd repost it here.

...and I'm clearly in the camp that prefers Thief Gold to Thief 2.

Atmosphere: TG wins. For a game calling itself "The Dark Project" it actually LIVES up to its name. It's dark as crap at times, and as expected there are things in the dark that go *bump* in the night. Also the little environmental sounds that are played like when you enter a room, or open a chest, they REALLY add to the suspense. Thief 2 has almost none of them by comparison, and the darkness in T2 seems and feels more trivialized.

Variety: TG wins this one easily. Each level is sufficiently different from the last one that you're never bored. There's a large variety of enemies and they're rotated well enough not to become tiresome. By the time you reach Escape! the levels become simpler, more streamlined, and have a stronger focus on action rather than stealth, but it's understandable, because at that point you want resolution for all your hard work, and revenge for getting shafted.

By comparison, Thief 2 struggles. A nice mix of variety is introduced in the first half of the game, but yet there's a noticable lack of it compared to Thief Gold. I'm at Precious Cargo now and I've counted 3 Haunts and 6 Zombies in Thief 2, for example, compared to the dozens of them in Thief Gold. No Burricks, no Craymen and no Bugbeasts either. It's all humans and Iron Beasts. It becomes dull and tiresome, and I understand everyone who reaches Sabotage At Soulforge and just gives up. The missions themselves are problematic. Ambush! and Tracing the Courier use the exact same map with next to no change in scenery, while in Thief Gold any reused maps were only reused partially and/or heavily modified. Do I have to mention Casing the Joint and Masks, almost the exact same mission twice in a row?

Style: Here I think they're equal, but for different reasons. Thief 1 portrays not only a industrial-age City, but also the dark and rotting underbelly of it. Thief 2 portrays the same city in a sort of industrial Renaissance, with Art Deco-style buildings towering over the cityscape and modern-day technology creeping in, but almost skips portraying the dark parts of the city. (On that note, how did a building like Angelwatch get built in roughly one year? Seriously?)

Technical: Thief 2 wins. The Dark engine behaves better and has more options in Thief 2. The only thing that I felt was "missing" from Thief Gold was the kangaroo jump (come on, it's fun!).

Overall: Thief 2 is the better product, but Thief Gold is the better game.

The only note I can add to the above is that the total Undead count was 4 Haunts and (I think it was) 8 Zombies in total.

It made grave robbing so much more risky and those zombies were fucking scary as they could fuck you up easily (like pretty much every other enemy in the game).

Speaking of grave robbing I need to remove much inventory from a certain crypt after I finish work. :smug:

Are you counting the unkillable and harmless haunt of the police station? Also no fire elementals and there is only one ghost in the game i believe(the sound of ghosts is creppy as hell).

Thief Gold is definitely the superior game in my eyes. Thief 2 has awesome levels (yes, even Soulforge is awesome) but so many filler shit it's awful sometimes. Kidnap in particular is a terrible mission and might be the worst in the entire series, so much that it made me ragequit the last time I played it.

I didn't like The Bank that much, but Life of teh Party is truly one of the best levels ever(too bad it can't hold the entire game to beat TG)

When I did the prison break yesterday I got caught by those two undead assholes up where the elevator leads to the old hammerite chamber with holy water. I managed to barely dodge the two zombies heading right for me by jumping across the elevator shaft and legging it into that chamber. There I maimed the single zombie that still followed me. Shit was more intense than all the modern popamole shooters combined. Did I mention I had no health pots and like 4 bars of health?

hief 2 had less supernatural involvement, but they were there and you would feel its presence. I guess thief 4 will follow this approach.

You guys need to remember that Thief 2 is basically an unfinished game. LGS was going bankrupt.

That it is still as good as it is, is a testament to their talent.

I've just managed to finish Thief 2 from start to finish a few months ago. I started it a lot of times before, but I always stopped after a few missions. So until now I thought that Thief 2 is the better game. But after finishing? i must say that the last third of the game really annoyed me, it had some ...I wouldn't say bad, but mediocre levels. All in all, for me TG is the better game.

Dancing with zombies for the win. I heard them like cattle. Sometimes I do with guards as well. It is a little bit game breaking, still fun to do. You know such situations, when you clearly see you're going to be found and dealt with. A bro has to improvise, lul.

Gathering all the zombies in the Bonehoard, getting to an unreachable location for them so they stay stationary trying to get you, and then firing a Fire Arrow at them to see them all explode into bits all at once is still one of the funniest things you can do in Thief. :smug:

To be honest, I can't really draw a line that separates thief 1 from thief 2, since I bought both games together and played them as one big game. To me, they're equally great.

Imma let you finish, but Escape is one of the best levels in the game. Strange Bedfellows on the other hand...
