If the online community consisted of more than a handful of servers I'd be all over this -- I'll debate it but will probably pass again. A lot of the people that do play seem to be elitist pricks, too.

I do play MNC from time to time and manage to find servers. I still like the competitive mode very much (I still think the skills should cost more with more significant upgrades, because you max out very fast) but like all competitive games it has its share of pricks. Still at that price you could give it a try.

Also riding chicken is fun.

So how is Disciples 2: Gold? It's being sold with JA 2 Gold for $6.24 and I'm pretty close to getting it...

It's a wonderfully-drawn 2D game, great music and atmosphere. But the gameplay is really repetitive, even more so than HoMM games. It's still worth it since it's cheap, but you'll probably only play through one of the campaigns once and then set it down.

Just bought the King Arthur complete pack and the first Stalker for under $10.

I feel dirty.

I have so many excess tickets I'll probably buy that even though I doubt I'll own Portal 2 for another year. Also people tracking achievement additions have concluded that two of tomorrow's tickets will likely be tied to Poker Night at the Inventory and Audiosurf -- time to reinstall those~

I prefer the steampunk characters for Killing Floor. Cery codexian, especially the doctor.

The berzerker looks a lot like Isaac from Dead Space though. Me gusta.

Also getting Spiral Knights achievement tomorrow. Picked up a firecracker in that for what seemed like a cheap price, since people will probably jack the price way up for the achievement tomorrow.

Edit: Apparently a 4 player patch for Sanctum will be released on the 7th, and there's a summer achievement which seems to tie in with that. Most likely daily deal incoming on Sanctum on the 7th.

Wings of Prey is supposedly a far more arcadey decline of a game, maybe it's less time to learn but it's still considered by most people to be shit compared to IL2. Haven't played myself (for the "it's shit" reasons) but that's what the word is.

Also, regarding STALKER games, a small hint: If you buy Shadows of Chernobyl first, you'll get an extra discount on Call of Pripyat after that through a "Customer Loyalty Programme" or some shit like that.

Also, of the STALKER games, I'd say CoP is the best, definitely having the most complete feel, I've installed it recently with the Complete mod, and been having a blast - very atmospheric, very un-hand-holdey game, lots of fun, especially if you set the Emission results to Zombify on any Stalker NPCs caught in it. Shadows was kinda nice but somehow incomplete (mods fixed much of it though), but Call is definitely a very good game.

First Stalker was the most atmospheric, though.
Esp. the underground labs.

What happened to the Summer sale? Steam's back to the normal front page? OH NOES!They said it was going to be until the 10th July.

Edit: Disregard that, it just went back to sale mode. Seems it was just funky for a few minutes.

75% OFF FOR ARCANIA BROS

or you could buy all 3 of the kings bounty games for less than half the price but remember Gothic IV means it's double Gothic II

KB is one large connected world with an exploration angle, unlike HoMM which is a series of scenarios on isolated separated smaller maps. Also there is no town building/management in KB.

How is that King's Bounty anyway?

Mind-numbingly boring. 90% of the time is spent running back and forth to get reinforcements and the came is completely devoid of any challenge.

The King's Bounty formula is basically this:

You find an enemy stack that conveniently blocks you from going to your objective (and there are no ways around). The stack is a little less numerous than yours and the AI is braindead, so it's not difficult in the least, but human wave tactics still make you lose troops. 5 steps after this stack is another, comparable one, which means you have to run all the way back to a place that is often four maps away to get new troops. There is no penalty for wasting time in this game, so nothing happens while you keep running around troop dwellings. You return to the enemy stack, and everything goes back to step 1.

KB isn't all that bad. The campaigns added with the last standalone expansion are quite good and generally demand some tactics to pull through. There are also many viable ways to build your army and all that gut jazz.

The two main campaigns though can be quite repetitive. Armored princess is a bit better because it has pretentions of being nonlinear so you could theoretically skip to the harder islands when you want a challenge.
