I always saved before entering a shop, and loaded if the inventory there was crap. This obviously only worked once per a significant amount of time, that is before the shop's inventory would reset.
That's what I remember too, for all 3 games (6-8)

my most fun game was sorcx4. it was horibly painful at first, but when they levelled up a bit, I felt like going with tanks against medieval knights (or, while flying, attack bombers). It was in MM7 though.

Light or dark? With dark you'd have been better off to grab a cleric. Hell, 3 cleric/1sorc would probably work better as dark magic completely removes the need to cast any elemental damage spells and you can abuse the well in eeofol too. i'd go 4 clerics if I didn't need lloyd's/tp

Monk, Knight, Cleric, Sorcerer. Monk was hardest to kill and made major damage.

No monk in 6.

In 7 i'd go:

light: knight/monk/cleric/sorc or knight/monk/thief/cleric (advanced)
Dark: clerics are all you really need. sorcs if you want the utility spells. could throw in an archer for early game support but with just clerics/sorcs you can have 4 characters laying waste to everything through gratuitous spamming of dragon's breath and souldrinker.

Well, it's my pleasure :)

I know, in 6 it's a claasic party for me: Knight, knight, sorcerer, cleric.

Just replaying 7 with Knight, ranger, cleric, sorcerer. Never tried ranger before, so I hope I won't regret my choice...

My current party in 7 is Knight/Ranger/Cleric/Sorcerer. Seems to work well enough and it means I don't have to toss the good axes I find(Rangers can GM Axe).

Party composition is actually one of the parts I like M&M8 for. True, most availible choices are terribad, but it's cool to have 5 characters as opposed to only 4 from 6 & 7.

I would agree with this except I am reminded that their idea of "classes" were "Dragon", "
Minotaur" etc. so it is complete shit anyway.

Ranger is the worst class in the game. I'd only take him in a masochistic all melee no cleric party.

Oracle quests? You mean the crystals?

You're about to go to Castle Darkmoor. Enjoy your stay :smug:

Leaving that one to last based on the reputation it seems to have :P

Kriegspire was easy enough, except when I tried to run away from the minotaurs in one of the arena rooms... into another arena room. Yet-another-fucking-Baa-temple seems even easier. I'm getting a bit concerned about my Archer's usefulness in the endgame, but he currently has a pair of great swords and implosion, which is getting us by fine so far.

Complaints about Castle Darkmoor are mainly due to debuffs. It's not that bad.

If the Archer has the miscellaneous skills, then the usefullness never goes away. Even without Dark/Light magic the elemental spells still dish out far more damage at the mid-to-late game than melee ever could.

In MM 1, is it true that your alignments shifts towards evil if attacking good aligned creatures like Unicorns and Pegasi? Since there is no Talk option that means you have to Flee if you want to remain Good.

No not true. I don't remember if the scales of justice (or whatever the hell they were called) and how you treat the prisoners affected your alignment, but if somethind did then that was it. If it attacks you, feel free to slaughter it.

Hm. My alignment has not changed after completing this quest. Maybe it's random or I should complete it several times.

Hmm...my question was based on something the CRPG Addict wrote in his blog. But now I notice that even the game manual hints to the same:

"If neither party is surprised, you have several encounter options. Note that the option you choose may affect your character's alignments"

How should this be interpreted?

Strange. Maybe it was not implemented or takes place after some insane number of encounters (remember secretninja's post with 65532th encounter in M&M2)
I finished M&M1 recently. Alignments sometimes changed, but probably it was result of enemies spells. And change was not permanent, you can restore alignment in any temple or at Cleric's Circle (?) in the desert.

I've yet to see any enemy spell change reputation, but there are player spells that will cause massive alignment drops when used(somewhat obviously).
A few quests give massive reputation gains or losses but I'm not sure about any of the wells doing it.

I'm about to start a game of Might and Magic 1.
I've read the manual and CRPG Addict's blog about it, but any tips on things to avoid and things to keep in mind before starting?
I have it up an running using D-Fend Reloaded, and unlike CRPG Addict I'm gonna play it in glorious EGA, not ugly CGA. :smug:
It runs extremely fast, though, so i have to reduce cycles to less than 500 to be able to read the combat text, even with an in-game delay of 9

Also, anyone tried the MM2 remake? There is a website for it - http://www.nightwolf.es - but all the links to the forums and downloads are dead.

Sigh. Supreme Temple of Baa was really easy, but when I got to Silvertongue (the head priest that used to be on the council), I hit him with an Implosion and... he fell off the platform into the lava. This makes him somewhat inaccessible. Did he have any artifacts/relics or anything worth getting?

One other question, how many of the artifacts and relics are in fixed places? I found Mordred, all the obelisk items and picked up the bow Artemis from... somewhere, but got the plate armour Zeus from a random blue dragon and have yet to find anything else.

The only reliable artifact is Mordred (don't forget to open chest second time). I remember gaining something in the Gharik's Forge, but the only real source of artifacts is the dragon's corpses.
