I remember reading somewhere that one of the quests (I think exposing the traitor on the council?) bumps your reputation automatically to Saintly, but I'm not sure if this is true.

Anyway if you've already completed most of the +rep quests you're better off getting to Saintly and Light first, then nuke a town with Armageddon and get Dark.

Did buying healing from Baa temples also lower reputation slightly?

No, healing has no effect on reputation. Donating to Baa temples lowers your reputation by one category and gives you buffs as long as your reputation is Respectable or higher. Donations have no effect at Average or lower reputation.

And to correct what I said earlier: Donating to normal temples only increases reputation if it's Average or lower. The maximum you can reach this way is Respectable - it will persist for 24 hours and then reset to Average. If your reputation before donating was above Respectable, there is no effect other than buffs.

Thanks bros

Also, should I install the Grayface patch? I didn't bother initially, I usually save stuff like that for replays, mainly because they have a tendency to make the games harder and I like to know what I'm getting into. However, looking at the changelog, its changes seem to be mostly useful and convenient, like adding quicksave, mouselook, running etc, and balancing things in favour of the player like making dual-wielding work properly. It... is save-compatible, right?

As far as I know, GreyFace's patch is save-compatible with vanilla 1.2 MM6 or even patched with Mok's. While the GreyFace patch has a lot of changes, PLEASE look over the changelog I posted earlier in the thread to make sure you like all of the changes.

hey guys! i need to bump this thread up again.

so might and magic VI

after failing miserably and getting raped by everything i started again with a new party! am much happier now.

but a few questions came up while breezing through new sorpigal and the first half of the second map...

1. any way to raise attributes? apart from the hidden attribute raising things like barrels n stuff?

2. how do item shops work? i just entered the iron..forgot the name..castle on the second map and bought awesome equipment and was very very happy! i was just about to quit and call it a night, but i stepped into the fuckin teleport thing...which i didnt even know was a teleport thing and was UTTERLY RAPED by all kinds of lizards in that strange crater with a well. hadnt saved for quite some time so i had to go through the first half of the second maps overworld again...so there i was thinkin just get back to the castle and buy all those cool spells and equipment again..DONT step into the teleporter and quit...but noooo fuck me..just rubbish for equipment now!? spells didnt change tho..

i think there was more...but i cant remember now...need to sleep. guess itll come to mind when i start this awesome game up again tomorrow

simply lovin it!!

edit: any idea where i might get the manual? couldnt find it anywhere and i thought it might be helpful to prevent me asking dumb questions :salute:

You can raise stats with wells primarly - they'll raise your stats up to 15 (there's a luck well in Sorpigal). Then it's black potions - most will raise one stat by 15 and lower another by 5. If you know all the receipes you can potentially increase everything by 10 (I think the formula is different for endurance though). Stats aren't that important though compared to skills and spells

As far as I know, items are generated each day when you enter a map. Saving/loading won't change inventories, only time will

The manual should be in your install folder.

What's everyone's favourite parties? I'm going for a Paladin/Druid/Soc/Soc. Magic heavy, because magic owns in this game, and I don't like the idea of characters becoming less useful as the game goes on. Knights are for suckers D-:

Somewhat of an exploit, you can raise all your party member's stats permanently by a significant amount if you pray at the Shrine of the Gods in Dragonsands. You get there by clicking on the upper wall of the New Sorpigal bank or something similar. Obviously you can also try to run there but at low levels it is impossible to survive.

Was it luck or endurance? Anyway one of the black potions also breaks the pattern by IIRC raising one of the stats by 15 then lowering all the others by 1 or something similar.

Anyway one important way to raise stats is also to go on pilgrimages. Every month the oracle in Ironfist will tell you about an altar somewhere in the world, you then go to the altar and clicking it will raise everyone's stat by... a value I can't remember. In the second half of the year it'll start raising resistances instead.

One last thing: at low levels you're supposed to be relying more heavily on the temporary boosts and on buff spells (to raise to hit and damage at least). Even later on the temp boosts are incredibly useful, since the ones in Kriegspire/Paradise Valley give a tremendous boost.

This might be a purely M&M8 thing and me misremembering stuff, but I think it's not like that. I always saved before entering a shop, and loaded if the inventory there was crap. This obviously only worked once per a significant amount of time, that is before the shop's inventory would reset.

Stats are less and less important as you advance in the game - the higher your stats are the harder it is to get more bonuses from them. I say focus on improving relevant stats to 15/20/25 and after that just take whatever you find. Later on you will have large bonuses from spells and items.

Fountains/wells that increase might, endurance, accuracy, speed and luck up to 15 are in major cities. Most of them are safe and can be visited early on without problems, except the two in Silver Cove (you need to have waterwalk or fly to get to them and escape from the monsters). Also, remember to save your game before drinking from newly found wells/fountains - some will poison, disease or even kill characters.

On pilgrimages: Each shrine increases the stat by 10 points for everyone in the party (not sure for resistances but probably the same).

Fuck Personality.
One of my first actions in the M&M was concocting black potions for all party members. Try mixing ingredients, but save first. Black potions is the white potions mixed with pure color potions. Experiment!

Aside from cleric, paladin and druid mana, the only other use of Personality is Merchant mastery. Unless you want your knight to become a master Merchant (you need 30 Personality for this), you can safely ignore it.

Well, knights can still do very nice damage later in the game, but I agree that any other class is better in the long run. One advantage of knights is that you can invest a lot of skill points into stuff like disarm trap, identify, merchant etc. without losing much attack power.

edit: damn typos

You can get some very good stat-enhancing gear if you successfully play the Circus games. The same thing applies if you defeat enemies that can provide high level loot(dragons and titans to name two).

Sorcerer, Cleric, Druid and Archer. The archer is for disarming traps and noticing things, the Sorcerer and Cleric are for learning Dark Magic, the Druid is for backup healing or backup fireballing stuff.

Knight/Cleric/Sorc/Sorc. 3 dark casters is already overkill. The knight is just there to haul their asses out if something goes wrong.

my most fun game was sorcx4. it was horibly painful at first, but when they levelled up a bit, I felt like going with tanks against medieval knights (or, while flying, attack bombers). It was in MM7 though.

Sorc, sorc, cleric, knight.

The sorcerers will nuke pretty much everything to a fine crispy finish and if things go wrong the knight will have so much health he'll probably survive.

Until you get to the mobs who can inst-kill you.

What's solo play like against mobs like Greater Werewolves and Minotaur Kings?
