If the itm file itself was overridden then the scroll of neutralize should satisfy the script, right?

In general any mod that isn't weidu should be installed first and never more than 1 at a time because they won't programatically add things, they just override stuff. Sometimes even weidu mods aren't written well and overwrite things but that's just bad luck if you accidentally run into one of those.

I tried that with the assumption that the scroll would be the diamond but Oswald didnt accept that

Anyway the good news is once I defeated the Caged Spirit I gave the items I had to Nathaniel and I am able to proceed to Chapter 3 :bounce:

No need to use cheats to advance

I have encountered a really strange bug and Im not sure if anyone else has experienced it

Im in Chapter 2 and I am trying to find the items for Oswalds ship repair, items like thyme and diamonds are suppose to be found in a crate in the ship. But when I open the crate the diamond isnt there but a scroll of neutralize poison is. If I use console cheats with the correct code for the thyme or diamonds it spawns the scrolls instead of the correct items
You are very likely using the "randomized items" component of Weimer's Ease of Use mod. Don't do that - even WW didn't recommend that people use it. Read the description of every component and be very selective about which ones you install!
Does light of selune unbalance the game in favor of the player?
It does favor the player just slightly. Most of the changes made are to the ranger class. Some of what are generally considered weaker classes in IWD2 (paladins, rangers, and rogues) get a few bonus feats at some levels. Traps hit harder and do damage over time. Some items were reworked (sometimes nerfed).

Crucis tried to make things align a little more closely to tabletop/3.5, but was limited to editing the 2DA files. So, for example, a workaround for giving small creatures an AC bonus vs large creatures was to give them the Dodge feat for free.

Yes I am using that mod, good insights. I will rerun it

So I have experienced a major technical problem\bug and Im disappointed because I have spent 45 hours on IWD2 and I cant progress. I will summarize what is happening and maybe people can give ideas, I have spent 5 hours troubleshooting the problem and I had no luck

It all started on Chapter 4 and going into the Underdark, the loading screen starts and then the game just crashes. I could restore any previous game but I couldnt progress at this point

I then started troubleshooting and removing mods, I only use 4 mods that are

  • widescreen mod
  • IWD2 NPC mod
  • IWD2 Fixpack
  • IWD2 Ease mod

But now I have reinstalled all these mods and now I cant load any previous save game, the yellow loading bar gets to about 70% and then hangs

What I want to understand is if you uninstall the Ease Mod can you be selective about what mods you can uninstall, will that break save games that previously used a particular mod? According to the Ease mod documentation you can do that?

I can start a new game fine will all mods installed but I cant load my current saves. I realize its a broad question but what else can cause a save game to hang apart from mods?

Post your entire weidu.log.

When you reinstall mods you need to reinstall all the components in the exact same order they were before, otherwise you have a potentially different setup than before. Also anything that is randomized or w/e is probably not something that will survive a reinstall since its randomized differently. Furthermore IWD2 is already the most ramshackle of the infinity engine games, with probably the least support and the most unknown bugs that can trip things up, so it might just be that.

Okay so you raised a possible problem and that is the order of mods and how I originally loaded them

And I have reinstalled the mods I mentioned several times, is there a way to see the original mod install order because I dont remember ? And the Weidu log is just the current install

And I can share something else, when I was originally troubleshooting why my save games werent loading the load screen progresses but it was getting further based on the Ease mods I installed. So in other words if I only installed 5 ease mods it got to 40% but with most of them it got to 70% and then stopped

I will play around some more before I give up

I decided to try one more time to fix my problems and guess what, it worked. I can load save games and go into the Underdark. I did the following

  • I uninstalled the game completely from GOG
  • I then deleted any folders or files that were left over that were mostly mod related
  • I reinstalled the game
  • I then used my normal windows download folder to guess which mods I would have installed first

And it worked, Im ecstatic because Im really enjoying this game :bounce:

Aqrit on top of using wined3d also does some adjustments to iwd2.exe. If you want to use some other wrapper, the "proper" way is to first uninstall aqrit with the console utility so that iwd2.exe is unpatched and only then use some other wrapper. Not just delete ddraw/libwine/wined3d.dll. You probably just have it mixed up in some way. Can't you copy the wined3d libraries that are in the ddrawfix/wined3d folder and use those?

Here is what i did just now:
Uninstalled IWD2
Installed IWD2 Gog version but without ddrawfix
Copied ddraw/libwine/wined3d.dll into IWD2 folder
Upon starting game i get black screen that is moved to right bottom corner (I can see part of the desktop). It crashes if i click mouse.

I only meant copying in the iwd2 that you already had installed to see if it would help :). Anyway, I think an easier way than playing around with wined3ds would be to just use cnc-ddraw? The fossena compilations aren't really playtested that much, I know that they're not compatible with the EE and aqrit is a bit old at this point.

cnc-draw makes everything smooth. However upon applying widescreen patch, fog of war flickers when moving screen around. So with cnc-ddraw im stuck with 1440x1080 res and black bars. Dont know why wined3d stopped working tho..

On my computer, the dossena wine doesn't work with IWD2, I tried 4.15 staging which is rated as gold (https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1033), also tried the newest staging and non-staging and it doesn't start. Aqrit works fine. Also I didn't really understand what you meant by "Installed IWD2 Gog version but without ddrawfix". I guess this means that you installed it and then manually uninstalled? (since gog has it preinstalled, I think the only way to "not" install it, is to install iwd2 to a folder where the installer doesn't have execution rights; or use some unpacker like innoextract instead of the installer)

I have two versions of iwd2 installer, one has ddrawfix upon installing , the other does not.

So that's some older installer, ok. I was worried there that I had some incorrect installer :)

I finished IWD2 after 100 hours, its a great game and scores a 70/100 on the globally respected " BruceVC game rating system "

I had one of the hardest battles I have ever had in any RPG with Iyachtu Xvim, I only defeated him on the 9-10th time and what made it so difficult is his natural resistances to certain magic, how only bludgeoning\crushing is effective and his AOE spells. So I adopted a strategy

  • start the initial battle with my 2 x tanks and 1-2 summons
  • then run away with any of my party members and let the summons do the fighting to get Xvim to use his AOE spells
  • use more summons to get him to use spells
  • use ranged weapons like sling and +5 bullets
  • Engage him with my full party once the summons are dead
And it was still very hard, I lost 1 party member and I had exhausted most of my offensive and healing spells but I had 3 x Lighting Bolts left and I used that to finally kill him

And then the battle with the twins was fun but strategically easier because I just killed the wizards first and quickly and then focused on the twins

Great game and definitely worth playing if you enjoy D&D ruleset and an overall action RPG design

It was some time i fought Iyachtu Xvim but i remember using porcupine strategy that consist of Mirror Image & both Fire Shields & Death Armor. Let him hit you and mirror image will soak hits, but he get retaliation dmg from fire shields and death armor.

Mirror Image is one of the best spells in Icewind Dale 2.
Scratch that, one of the best spells of the Infinity Engine.

There's at least two different mods that let you import IWD2 into BG2, and convert it to use 2nd ed rules. I'm curious if anyone here has tried that, and what the experience was.

I thought nothing was finished and it was all buggy/badly balanced and aborted. Just too many engine differences.

Maybe?

https://github.com/subtledoctor/IWD_EET_Integration lets you play iWD2 in BG2 as a standalone campaign, or integrate it into EET (Enhanced Edition Trilogy, the new BWP). It requires IWD2_EET, found here: https://github.com/11jo/IWD1_EET

It looks like as of mid-Feb, it was quite buggy: https://www.gibberlings3.net/forums...-a-large-eet-game-on-a-tablet/#comment-320956

But, that poster is the author of IWD integration mod, and I believe it incorporates fixes for all the issues he raises in the thread.

This is fairly new / messy, that's why I'm curious if anyone has tried it.
