It's very juvenile.

Any company could have done this type of game, Obsidian's talents are wasted here.

But Matt and Trey believed Obsidian was the only one who could do it right.

The same could be said about the Star Wars franchise, but that didn't stop them from making KOTOR II.

Does anyone know how they decided on an RPG for this? Rather odd, considering virtually every game based on a movie or TV show gets made into action-adventure or shooter. Perhaps a sign of :incline:?

This game has always been a hit or miss depending if one can stomach the SP setting and humor. Approaching it any different from the series is doing it wrong.

The South Park guys are RPG geeks. They wanted this, not the suits.

It occurred to me that this thing's been in development for a little over three years now, making it roughly tied with Alpha Protocol for the longest Obsidian's ever been given to work on a project. They already had the tools and the engine, the art shouldn't take too long to make, what the hell's the hold-up?

On the plus side it means it's more likely to be a full-scale RPG. :P

^ Matt & Trey touched on that - since they basically have the creative control and wanted to be involved in pretty much everything in the game, it must've increased the development time by quite a bit. They want to do it right this time (those earlier licensed games were utter garbage) and they have the money to cover the lengthy dev. time, so why not?

Wait South Park in an isometric peerspective:eek:

Could be a cutscene? I think combat at least is purely side-view, so at best that's some 'city' screen where you just interact with stuff.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/01/30/south-park-season-17-delayed-until-fall

Along with this news, it was revealed that South Park: Season 17 has been delayed and won't begin airing new episodes until September 25 (as opposed to its usual spring start date).

Hmmm...

The South Park RPG looks like a gag game, which relies on poop jokes and behaving in inane and random ways to generate laughs. It looks many orders of magnitude more childish than Star Wars.

Of course the game could prove me wrong when released. Initial impressions are awful, though.

You are looking it wrong. In such a game and with Matt and Trey's involvment Obsidian can riddicule the whole game intustry trends, and make this game the best parody/ RPG satire ever made. I will love the RogueySJW buthurt over it, since we know Sawyer is not involved

I think it looks great. Over the years South Park has developed a 100+ characters. Not to mention there is room for factions (Goth, Gingers, Vamp fags, etc). Yeah the show sucks atm but I'm still holding out hope that they put everything together and give the player a unique fun experience with lots of options.

If you never liked the show you'll probably not like this. But I personally loved the earlier seasons, and season 5 and 6 were the best if I remember right. There were still good episodes up to season 10, but the number of bad episodes during each season started slowly rising after 6, until last season which I don't think had any good episodes. Some of them start out funny and with potential but ultimately end flat or in a bad way. It's like they need 2 weeks instead of 1 to do an episode.

Also, the best episodes were when the kids were having fun being kids and playing. This seems like a good idea to do.

This is going to be juvenile and shitty. I don't know who this is supposed to appeal to: who even watches South Park anymore? The humor has become satirical and based on current events and would be lost on kids, and it's still juvenile enough that no respectable adult would watch it. I guess the target audience is edgy/lame-humored teenagers into JRPGs.

South Park was a product of the early 2000s and the internet and should have gone the way of Strongbad and other corny animation shit like that. No idea how it's lasted this long. And yes, every single licensed South Park game has been absurdly awful, and not only because it's based on South Park. Just genuinely shit games.

Hm, really, who watches SP anymore? How did it last this long? Oh, maybe because of the bazillion people who watch it for a decade now and continues to watch it.

I love when a random Codexer just comes into a topic, and asks a stupid shit like "who watches/reads/listens/plays this shit anymore". When it obvious that a lot of people do that constantly. I don't want to brake it to you, but despite your hate towards SP, it is still very VERY popular in TV. Even if some people think that the new seasons are worse than the old ones. They might be right, but it doesn't change the FACT that it is still popular. Very popular.

Obviously it's popular, or it wouldn't still be on TV after 15 years or whatever it has been. Being into cartoons after a certain age has a negative connotation, and yes I consider South Park to be a cartoon. One with extremely juvenile humor, no less: poop and gay jokes, how fucking cutting edge. Oh, but wait, you really like the look of Broken Age, too. I guess you're just one of those cartoon guys.

Yes, I happen to like SP and like Broken Age. But at least I'm not trying to act edgy with this "oh, who watches SP anymore, it so 2002".

As far as I know, SJWs really don't give a damn about South Park. Its purpose is to be offensive, which turns it into white noise.

They probably have to delay the game to introduce material revolving around the Xbone unveiling. That would be neat. Matt and Trey had the balls to insult M$'s E3 presentation while on stage as part of it. That kind of shit is comedic gold! If only they could do the same with South Park.

Yeah, yeah we get it - you don't like South Park. Fuck off. Go post in an "I'm a dumb cunt" thread.

Because playing computer games certainly have a very positive connotation in our society... If you care about things like social validation, I highly recommend you looking for other sources of entertainment.
