I've watched this series pretty regularly and even though it's definitely not as good as it use to be, I'm sure there will be references to the earlier good seasons/episodes. That's what I'm looking forward to. Them combining the best elements of South Park over its entire run into a game. And judging by some of what the attacks and stuff are called, it sounds like it could be good. It doesn't have to be a monocle RPG. It just has to be a fun game that's true to the South Park series. I think it's worth demoing if you're a fan of South Park. We'll see how good it holds up as a RPG. We don't know enough yet.

If south park the rpg is the big break obsidian been looking for and does really well, maybe...there's hope for an AP 2?:bounce:

Otherwise am having high hopes this is gonna be a southparkish version of paper mario rpg with added C n C in regards to who you befriend from the south park cast.

South Park needs to sell 2 mil. units to break even.

South Park requires a relatively smaller investment than other titles due to its simple animation. That project's break-even point is also 2 million units, though the publisher believes it can sell well above that, THQ told Pachter.

South Park requires a smaller investment than our other titles. That's why it has the same break-even point as our high profile wrestling property. Also yeah we suck THAT much at money.

Its probably the cost of licencing and marketing, but still its seems way too much since they themself say that the cost of game development itself is pretty low. It seems that Obsidian will get screwed again since the money they get from this is pretty low and probably will get the same deal as in FNV without royalties and bonus.

Its probably the cost of licencing and marketing, but still its seems way too much since they themself say that the cost of game development itself is pretty low. It seems that Obsidian will get screwed again since the money they get from this is pretty low and probably will get the same deal as in FNV without royalties and bonus.

I do wonder how they convinced investors (or whoever is funding this) that a full priced turn-based RPG with South Park styled graphics would sell at least 2 million copies.

They didn't. This project was started by the licensors (Matt and Trey the South Park Creators) and Obsidian. THQ was contracted to publish half a year later.


That's also why people shouldn't worry too much about Obsidian here. It's important what they arranged with the South Park guys. Not with THQ.

Being one who never buys immediate releases, yes, I will purchase this as soon as it comes out. This looks entertaining as all hell. No matter how shitty this game turns out to be, there will be a Family Guy RPG which will be released right behind it which will suck 10x worse. Just watch.

That's actually fairly likely, since Matt and Trey at the very least seem like true bros.

Obsidian why must you keep getting raped by publishers?

If all those shitty shit games can get Kickstarted surely if you say from the makers of Fallout:NV and South Park etc etc you'll get way more dosh than that shitty adventure game
