I was wondering about the technical and community-al prospects of hacking out the fantasy bullshit. The races are easy enough to remove by just not including them. Past that, though...? And if you cranked out some mind-blowing module that was Gibson without the Tolkien, would whoever ends up being The Community snub it?

You could still create a fantasy character though. If I'm making a proper Cyberpunk mod I don't even want the player to be a fucking elf or whatever other dumb fantasy monsters there are.

Cyberpunk purists are worse than fantasy "Tolkien-is-God-and-nothing-else-is-allowed" purists.

It's understandable considering there aren't other cyberpunk CRPGs with an editor out there but "Can I play shadowrun without what makes shadowrun unique" is something I've seen many times in pnp discussion which is p. funny

Eat a dick. I'm not a purist. I'm someone who just doesn't like the fantasy aspect of Shadowrun but is looking forward to having an editor with a lot of Cyberpunk-like assets. That being said, I will still play the SSR OC and download interesting looking mission packs and try and enjoy the SSR setting for what it is, but as I said earlier in the thread I would like to try my hand at making some missions set in a different universe that isn't "fantasy meets the future" bullshit.

Knowing it beforehand doesn't excuse anything and it seems the editor is much more limited than initially believed.
The important word here is "seems".
Isn't that a bit like telling people how to spend their money?

Almost 100 pages of pure disappointment, keep it up bitches. How do we know that "people" will fix the game with modules etc and not make shitty Twilight romance ciber punk fanfiction with the mod tools.

I'm sure they will. What's your point?

Beyond that, the review showed a few promising stuff...
Not really. If the review is accurate, the game is pretty horrible.

*wall of decline*

XCOM had ruthless brutality? Oy. So, basically, it sounds like everything but the story is shit.

My decision to not back this when I saw that Harebrained was a)primarily a mobile developer and b)developing the game for mobiles is now fully justified.

Honestly, if the modder community of the game is going to be about 30% of what existed in the first Neverwinter Nights... For me, it is worth the investment. Don't get me wrong, I am not advocating that this is merit of the company in any way, if the game is really shallow and weak as it seems right now. But on the other hand, what I care about in the end is how much fun I can take of any product. I think I never got to finish the OC of NWN, but I guess I have spent over 100 hours in different modules posted by community members over the years, and some modules were very good.

So. I can perfectly understand someone who says that they refuse to buy SR if review posted above is really true, that's fine. Nor I have any interest in defending Harebrained if the OC sucks. But if the content created by the users are worthwhile (and from what I've been reading about it on forums, this is something very likely to happen), I don't think I would regret having bought the game.

Not really. If the review is accurate, the game is pretty horrible.

"Progression is achieved through karma, though points now seem to be awarded more in line with the actual Buddhist concept. In the early games, karma was handed out for kills and domination in battle. Now, you're more likely to gain upgrades by helping out your fellow lowlifes in the slums - retrieving blankets for the homeless, rescuing hapless young men from brutal torture, and so on."

"This is not a game that wants to overwhelm the player with intricacies, preferring to make those intricacies easy to grasp, freeing the player's attention for the story."

"You're never doing much more than following an objective arrow and clicking on everything highlighted by an icon, but the writing is good enough that you never feel railroaded."

"This is a game that slips down easily, its story broken up into short and mostly linear sections that can be played in a lunch break."

"There's no real chance to wander off and find your own way, but then there's no real reason to anyway."

"[combat] ... but as with character levelling, it's realised in a very streamlined fashion."

"...since this is not a difficult game. It may resemble XCOM during its more tactical moments, but it lacks that game's ruthless brutality. You'll need to make some pretty horrendous mistakes to fail most of the encounters here."

XCOM had ruthless brutality? Oy. So, basically, it sounds like everything but the story is shit.

So... if they're correct, it's short, linear, simple, streamlined, easy, rewards XP for FedEx moralfagging, is based on 4th Edition (or 5th, not sure), and its choice and consequences chops are unknown.

Why was I hyped for this, again?

So Apparently, begging for copies as a newfag here has no returns unlike in gog where I got almost 75$ of free games in a couple of months acting like a bethtard biodrone, people just wanna support the incline by gifting me classic RPGs hehe.

Any bro interested in a trade?
I am supposed to have an extra digital copy of Divinity Original Sin, due to retarded financial decisions I made backing D:OS.

So If someone is kind enough to trade a steam key for SRR, for a future key of D:OS. As a bonus, you can avoid much butthurt since Larian being the bros they are, have options of Steam, GOG, Larian vault. But please mention what platform you want, If you are interested.

Edit: i will also throw in an extra copy of the kickstarter potion, whatever that is.

How low must a man sink to beg for abandonware? The hobo who feeds off of my trashcan probably has more self-respect than you do.

For some of us who are in thirdworlida, a 1mbps net connection is a luxury. And since steam and GOG all sell in US$ here, even if we are able to afford to not starve and make the rent (barely), even buying more than a few "abandonware" per month is a hard exercise. And the Torment/DOS kickstarters drained me. When you can have a full dinner with rice, flatbread, porridge, a couple of vegetables and fish for 2$ in a small restaurant here, you decide whether you can afford to buy darklands and maybe skip fish for a week... or whore your ego (which isn't worth shit) for a free copy? Also growing up in a poor family in thirdworldia, you learn never to refuse free stuff due to your ego (you say self respect. i say ego)

Edit: oh you are form Germany. that explains it. Also, I started begging from Rougey here. So you can demolish any notions of self respect. right now, i really want the editor, but I cannot afford it until a few months down the line, so a trade.

I can appreciate that. Most first-worlders would crumble if forced to deal with actual hardship, and don't spare a genuine thought for their comparative fortune in the grand scheme of things. The dignity of never having to beg or debase oneself is a luxury of the well-to-do.

Having said that, it's good to have land.
