Game of the year

Could be.
I don't think it faces much competition.
Maybe they'll just decide to give Trannyguard the award?

…yes i expect games that tout to be AAA to have SOME cinematic missions, that you will remember for long after you end the game.

What I remember most from STALKER is shadowing groups of stalkers around the city at night and watching them get into firefights, having men I’m supposed to find end up dead or besieged for one reason or another not of my doing, and sitting around the fire listening to some guitar tunes and comradely chatter.

Cutscenes and story that wasn’t told in datapads or my own exploration didn’t come into it.
ShoC had multiple CGI cutscenes throughout the game, Clear Sky and CoP had in-engine cutscenes.

Sure, and I vaguely remember a couple from SoC like the ‘death truck’ intro and the rat swarm and none from CS and CoP. None of it features in my most vivid memories of the games.

CS had CGI cutscenes at the beginning and the end, just as good as SoC's. There was also a couple of in-engine cutscenes at the beginning of CS, but only one of the annoying panoramic type (SoC had two of those). From CoP I mostly remember that the in-game cutscenes took forever to load and seemed completely unnecessary (like watching the protagonist talk into his PDA in third person).

Not bad, I might be able to play it. 150 GB of SSD might limit their audience? Although I have about 4 SSDs including a new 1tb. Maybe everyone has them now?

Fabulously optimistic: top tier asset and texture quality

Reality: 80% cinematic prerendered cutscenes

While upscaling from 540p.

Requirements seem pretty reasonable, but with the reports of instability from even the rather positive previews it would be nice to know what kind of resolution/framerate they are targeting with those.

It's a UE5 game, so expect everything to look blurry because it's upscaled from 540p and all materials to look like they're made of plastic, no matter how much effort devs put into them. That's just how UE is, no way around it.

Oh, and stutters, a lot and lot of stutters.

Graphical fuckery aside, it'll be A-Life (or lack thereof) that ultimately makes or breaks the game. And at least they've got Iassenev back on board for that - but like with every release these days, at least first wait for those initial impressions from fellow stalkers.

This guy says that A-Life 2.0 distinguishes factions and types of monsters, which dictates how far they will follow you, or what areas they protect. There were also questions about optimization and those annoying yellow markers that most of us here hate. They might make them a toggle, at least I hope so.

Being able to toggle yellow markers doesn't change who the game was made for, which I expect will be reflected in the rest of the games design. Is there a toggle for all that, too?

I hope it doesn't have cars, I think they planned to have them in the original and it caused them problems. Yellow markers sound bad, I don't like things like that being a toggle. Game should be designed around having it or not.

The fuck is this? SoC is barely 8 GB and the game still looks fine. What's the excuse for this to be 20 times as big?
