You can play Empire 1.6 pirate edition. I never had problems on that.

Was browsing TWC and found this little nugget.

Q. As the Greek cities are not going to be a single faction anymore but broken up into various different factions, will same be true of other factions from Rome II such as the Gauls or Britons.
A. There will be a lot of factions in the game and yes factions that were previously grouped together as one such as the Gauls will be split up into many tribes along with other cultural groups such as the Iberians, Britons etc.

Now that sounds promising.

There's likely going to be some sort of instant alliance system where attacking one tribe or city-state draws in all the neighboring ones. Hopefully they'll make enough tribes and city-states so you can ally with several yourself before backstabbing them.

It also explains that 700 different kind of units number they've been tossing around. It's ludicroux and either points towards filler or insanely ambitious. With this however it just points towards small name changes between tribes. Numbers inflate quickly when it's not Gaul Spearman but :insert tribal name: Spearman. I'm actually kinda relieved.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Screeching women ftw.

Some of these AWESOME fantasy units will probably be back. Except for the pigs cause they had gotten too much flak.

If ever they do a China : TW, I suspect that indeed, pigs will have firepowder kegs strapped onto them.

Cue cutscenes of Sun Tzu, chewing a Cigar : I LOOOOOOVE THE SMELL OF BACON IN THE MORNING

Yeah, that seems about on par with what CA did with Rome.

I don't really care what part of the world is in upcoming TW game, because it CA's games are as ahistorical as they can only be, so I just consider these fantasy games anyway.

That actually sounds terrible, knowing the diplomatic AI in TW games... Not including shogun 2 which was incline in every way.

I'd say it's way more realistic that invading a small tribe south of the alps is not going to start a war with what amounts to France. Plus sacking Rome as a Gaulish tribe should become a fuckload more interesting. Plus, if they really work on making these factions have unique traits it only spells incline.

And I've been hoping for a decent CAI for TW games since forever. We'll see if Rome 2 will finally deliver. Interestingly Shogun 2's was actually quite decent when you took away all its silly bonuses. Shame noone updated that one simple AI mod for the latest patches and expansions.

I want pigs. Russian did dogs with bombs in WWII, thus they should add pigs.

The different factions(city-states) of Greece sounds like some Incline historically, but only if done right. In-fighting should be common between the major cities(Sparta vs. Athens), and the states should more or less band together to fight outside threats(Persia). This is all assuming they are still linked in some way diplomatically. That....would be awesome.

Alike Culture giving bonus in diplo just like they did with Shogun 2's FOTS factions will probably be it.

My main worry about that whole thing is that it could turn out to be some sort of factional sub-division with just mechanical modifiers attached to it, especially because they seem to be doing it for every faction they've mentioned so far (Rome = three houses, Greece = notable city-states, Barbarian faction = various tribes, etc) and not proper factions as we know them. Then again maybe I'm just being skeptical considering SEGA has been pestering Creative Assembly about how they pack too much content in a single game.

It's a great way to represent how decentralised and uncoordinated 'government' and diplomacy was of this era. For instance how lots of Celtic and Germanic tribes allied with and fought alongside Rome (though I guess in a way that was represented in Rome 1 by having tribal mercenaries available), individual Roman governors deciding to start a war with a nearby tribe for some slaves, prestige and loot etc.

Nice incline over Rome 1's system of having 2/3 of the map controlled by boring rebels.

I don't know bros, everytime I get excited for a game well in advance it turns out to be shit. All the good ones bite me in the ass when I'm not looking, and I enjoy it! I hope Rome II is the exception and not the rule.

Oh it definitely won't meet any of our expectations, but here's hoping it's not complete shit, is released as a mediocre game with promise, and that the inevitable expansi...I mean DLC and mods will turn it into an enjoyable and complex enough strategy gaming experience.
