I wouldn't know. I'm not the person who created this build nor am I telling people to use it. I'm just sharing my thoughts on the build. I was going to try it out myself, then I realized I would burn myself out from using it. I suffer from a problem. If I am not playing a monk character, I quickly lose interest and end the playthrough. This has happened multiple times now.

If you cared about favored enemy. You would have invested more levels.

I agree, but, as I said before, I think that's just an experiment to try a character as multiclassed as possible that can still finish the game.

No, I think that’s intended to be the ultimate (best) build. It’s exactly what someone without any concept of opportunity cost and/or understanding of how the PF ruleset penalizes multiclassing would create.

It’s akin to the little kid building a five color M:tG deck with 4 lands of each type.

Now we just have to wait for that kid to become Travis Woo and build his Living End.
And then get kicked out by ChannelFireball for saying that Hitler did nothing wrong and the jews deserved it.

Alright, challenge: make a character with one level in 20 different classes, that doesn't suck
That sounds very difficult.... How would you do that? Perhaps focus on creating a martial build then go from there? That way you don't suck? So maybe something like this: 1 Fighter/ 1 Monk/ 1 Slayer/ 1 Freebooter/ 1 Paladin/ 1 Aldori Swordlord/ 1 Duelist/ 1 Stalwart Defender/ 1 Rogue/ 1 Vivi/ 1 Crusader/ 1 Barbarian/ 1 Tactical Leader/ 1 Defender of the True World/ 1 Eldritch Scion/ 1 Sorcerer/ 1 Archaeologist/ 1 Dragon Disciple.... Spend the two levels on something else to salvage this abomination.

I think creating a character with one level in 20 different classes is, well, a sure fire way to hurt your brain...

If you wanted to take Yosh seriously you could get there with five classes tops, and it would look very different from NCs version. But I don't think he was serious.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
Ranged classes enjoy far more Full Attacks than other classes, and at full BAB with Favored Enemy/Freebooters Bane/Improved Quarry Ranger is better at landing those iteratives/enabling Deadly Aim to beef them up. On top of that Ranger gets Hurricane Bow to up the Dice, Aspect of Falcon to save a feat on Improved Crit, Stone Call to keep enemies at range, and Feather Step, Mass to let your teammates move as normal.

Melee Ranger is even more dangerous due to Combat Style Feats letting you get key Feats much earlier than other classes (Shield Mastery at lvl 6!) or without prereqs, Lead Blades, and Aspect of Wolf.

And of course you've got the broken pet or irreplaceable stacking group buffs of Freebooter or Hunter's Bond.

Ok, I'm prepared to admit if I'm wrong. Bear in mind I've put less than 100 hours into the game and haven't got to level 20 as a Ranger. But convince me that the higher level abilities of the Ranger are better than getting to level 10 STR Ranger with x3 TWF feats, and then 10 levels of rogue for 5D6 sneak and the rogue talents.

My interpretation of improved Quarry is that it confirms the second critical roll on the initial threat roll, and if I remember it also cancels stealth. Since I haven't finished the game, I don't have the metagaming to know which favoured terrain and enemies to pick. But if I dipped into Slayer I could get 6 favoured terrains over 4 for HIPS anywhere, with 7 levels and 2D6 sneak & swift studied target - which I assume stacks with FE.

I was even thinking of STR based TWF, but Fighter/Barbarian always semms to hit harder. Is it level 16 Barbarian for the lethal stance x3 critical multiplier?. Even at level 7 as a two-handed fighter, you've got backswing @ double STR damage for all atacks after the first and then 13 levels of Ranger for x3 STR based archery combat style feats. If you went with Storwalker Ranger, that would give you flashstep as well. Then you've got 2 levels to ponce about with fighter for feats or rogue to pick up the trapfinding & XP.

This is just surface level knowledge for me, as the ruleset is still new. But convince me I'm dumb. :stupid:

I like Freebooter 10/Barb 10 on Amiri since she already has a Barb level and I’ve usually given Ekun 8 Sacred Huntmaster levels for Domain abilities and sharing Feats with Ekun.

The one time I tested pure Ranger was on Ekun in that pic and he just destroyed everything. Improved Quarry as a Free Action resolves immediately (unlike clunky Swift/Move Actions). It’s just straight up +4 to hit, nothing to do with Crit confirmation.

It’s even better modded since you continue to get Combat Style Feats at 14 and 18. Sneaks are chip damage at that point. If you want Sneaks you get full Vitals with nice duration at high level Ranger.

For melee, a Str-based Ranger will hit more often than the Dex Ranger/Rogue since he'll have higher BAB and be able to take advantage of Enlarge-like spells. 2-handers will hit harder like 2H-fighter or Barbarian, but there's nothing stopping your ranger from going 2-handed.
If you go Ranger/Rogue you can't have a pet either (well, you can, but it won't keep up). Freebooter is strong so this isn't exactly a handicap but it does restrict your options.
Of course if you want to dual-wield as a Str Ranger, you can take the feats without having to pump Dex and then go the shield bash route, which personally I like.

Dual-wield Ranger can get TWF Feats without the DEX using Combat Style.

I’ve done this on Harrim so he can slay with his Urgrosh.

What mod changes Ranger style feats at 14 & 18?. I'm just running COTW atm as advanced martial arts seems to be abandoned. I think it also added Prodigious TWF which cheapens the Ranger class even more.

CotW just has more Feats so you still have things you want at 14 and 18 instead of being stuck with Skill Focus or something.

Prodigious makes you spend a Feat on something Rangers already have.

Even more? Please. They're out of your price range.

No. You haven't earned Imperative Voice. Don't play dumb. No way you're under 100 hours either.

Sneaks suck* unless you're doing things like Surprise Spells or Cleaving with them (with Brutal Beating and Crippling Strike attached). Without Pounce you're just not getting all those attax in unless you're taking longer to kill the mob than you should be.

Rogue Talents are fine, especially Double Debilitation. Two-handed Fighter sucks unmodded because you don't get Advanced Weapon Training Feats, I haven't tried it yet on CotW, but again you shouldn't even be getting to Backswing that often and it doesn't do that much when you do.

Trapfinding doesn't work with splashing. I haven't tried Electric Ranger although the Flash step could be pretty good with the Snap Shot Feats if you can get enough AC to survive. Here's my Flamewarden:

FlameBuild.jpg

Flametoothcombat.jpg

Procs a Hellfire Ray on Crit using Flaming Burst from Flame Touch and Necrotic Burst from Prehistoric Tooth. That was back when I was splashing too. Saint 4 one of the few Splashes that's probably worth it.

* - obvious exaggeration. But compare what does the bulk of the damage in my pics with how often theorycrafters design their whole build around Sneaks. Not close to being proportional.

Doesn't Prodigious TWF treat medium weapons as light? AFAIK the ranger feats just allow access to the TWF without treating them as light weapons...

I'm sure you've put more hours into this game the me, but you're pics always show critical hits. So the crit you land per battle is more devestating than a flanker with consistant sneak attack damage?.

Why didn't you pick Piranha Strike or Power Attack? You have the AB to spare. More damage at little to no cost for you.
That Monk/SS/Ranger should have Power Attack, it's a prerequisite for Cornholing Smash.
Also curious why it isn't enabled, though.

Nope, that's the magic of Combat Style Feats.

One of several reasons Rangers are not in fact the weakest class in P:K. Far from it.

Crits are more fun, and yeah I focus on getting a lot of them, but most of my damage comes from group buffs and things like Power Attack that are always on. I still do use Sneaks, I'm just not afraid of builds that don't focus on them because there are so many other sources of consistent damage.

Prodigious lets you use STR to qualify for DEX-based Feats and treats all Weapons as Light I think so it saves you the -2 off-hand. I'd have to check the second part.

I never looked into that line of Combat Style Feats.

Yeah it's great. Jaethal shield bashing as a slayer is the tits because of Combat Style bypassing certain requirements.
I played a shield-bashing Slayer in Varnhold's, just never looked into the Menacing line until now.
Not getting quarantinebux to stay home and play the Wrath alpha is making me regret my career choice. :(
Of course, so is this:
