Every research in the subject shows that only a tiny minority exhibits this so called "whale" behaviour, less than 10% iirc though it somewhat depends on the game. Unless you have some deep seated insecurities playing at your own pace works just fine. I certainly never felt the urge to "whale".
Who's doing that research? My personal experience is the younger the generation the faster they "swipe". And it's not about logic, some kid throwing money at a game he's going to play couple of hours because his friend got that cool whatever has nothing to do with logic.
Sure seems convenient to have a cover for evolving predatory design. Don't worry bro. we only target the 'whales' and we only want you to have fun in our games.

You are an ignorant moron. Gamers like this do not need incentives. How do I know? This type of behaviour existed in Diablo 2. A player there literally bought a freaking Zod rune for a 1000 dollars. Gold selling services ran rampant back then already as were selling other shit, yet I have to read dumb drivel about the "current generation bad/dumb" and "companies want more money" same old trite shite in the past 20 years. Got anything of value to add?

Bought my Founders Pack and since then I have spent 0$ on the game (I did spend ~100hours in the game thus far, however, so I'm certainly no casual). I'm itemlevel 1040 and will most likely be hitting T3 by next week, so it's not like you need to spend money to progress, it just helps (and not that much, unless you're not spending a lot of time on the game and want to progress anyway, which is acceptable imo). I bought most T1 materials from Maris Secret Shop for gems as well, since making gold is so easy in this game and the exchange ratio from gold to gems was close to 1:1 in the first few days (it's still somewhere around 1:0.8)

People seem to be forgetting one major thing though: Having higher itemlevel doesn't really give you an advantage over other players. It just means you get to experience certain content faster than others. But none of those advantages exist in PvP, and anything a person who spends hundreds of dollars can do within the game, a regular player can do too - it'll just take them a bit longer to get there. This game doesn't have a high-end PvE scene like games like FF14 or WoW do, so what does it even matter if some guy who spends thousands on the game gets to progress to T2 a day faster? I don't really see the issue.

I bought the level 50 pack since the value in it seems like they actually made a mistake, but beyond that I don't think I'll spent until months in (because at that point I'll be sure the game has staying power for me). It certainly doesn't seem like I need to spend. Don't get me wrong there's multiple opportunities for spending - like on the Stronghold - but why would I do that? It's not like there's not a literal fuckton of content I can do while Stronghold timers run, I'm waiting on more gear runs or whatever.

Whaling in the current business model seems a waste tbh.

It's a waste right now, because when you intend to spend months or years with the game, reaching T2 a day or two faster isn't really gonna help you. We will all be stuck at T3 for months anyway, whether you're a whale or F2P player.

If you wanna buy some materials from the Gem Shop, just sell rare engravings. Pick the ones that are most expensive on your server. It might hinder your own character a bit (whether or not you get T2 engravings matters jack shit at the moment) but you can buy those back later for much less gold. Grenades are also a decent money-maker still, although not nearly as much as in the first few days.

That's precisely my point. If you whale out then more power to you, but it seems kind of like paying to skip the middle part of a single player game.

Played some more, binding keys to what you want is impossible.
Deadeye switching styles could be done with mouse wheel but it won't work.
Trying to bind some action to mouse wheel and side buttons also doesn't work.
It's like the game was released at a time when mice didn't have wheels nor side buttons.
You just know it's a cheaply made game to milk people.
But I guess it's acceptable until wow's patch is released.

Milking players? That is rich coming from a WoWtard playing a game which you have or had to pay full price for the main game and iir half or 2/3rd of the base game for each expansion PLUS monthly fee PLUS ingame cash shop, WoW is the epitome of milking its retarded sheep fanbase. Do you love sucking Bobby Kotick's dick that much?
Cheaply made? WTF? This is overall a high quality product. The amount of effort to craft a fun adventure is leaps and bounds beyond all hack&slash competitors like PoE. WoW is 10 years older and at this point has a story that makes no fucking sense and has been essentially rehashing C'Thun from Classic over and over and over. Everything was dumbed down to the point you have to wonder why even bother playing it and not a hack&slash like Diablo 2. Old content was left so hard in the dust it has become essentially worthless. Congrats for playing a game which despite having a giant open world has managed to make most players ignore 99.9% of it and left them idling around in the main cities waiting for PvP or Dungeon finder to pop up, at best they duel just outside of the city.

Yes a valid criticism. They really underestimated the amount of players who would want to play the game and undercooked server capacities. According to an announcement they are working of adding another EU region with new servers if I understood them correctly.

That was something special and at least publicly wasn't allowed by the devs. Now it wouldn't blip on the radar and is actively promoted. Sure nothing has changed.

There was no way for Blizzard or any other company to stop it and it was not for the lack of trying. What came was the next logical step. If you want to lay blame, blame your fellow gamers who are willing to spend absurd amount of money on games like this. If the will had not been there from the get go it would have never happened. The only valid criticism I can accept for company exploitation are freaking random loot boxes and I am all for going the Belgium way on that one.

Btw funny situation here. Global version is not available in Ukraine because we are supposed to play russian localization from mail.ru. BUT mail.ru is blocked in Ukraine too, because something-something russian propaganda.

today sykar the retard learns the difference between isolated incidents from 20 yrs ago that he can recite on one hand and the rise of microtransactions/whales over the last decade which has been strangling the design of nearly every game since these types of players are a disturbing new norm

but nvm sykar, sry to intrude on ur latest isometric arpg of the month fun, pls call me a dumbfuck while u play a shit korean mmo that u prolly dropped $200 in already for a pretty pony mount xd

colors. :smug:

Edit: Forgot this turd gem of yours.
ya remember in diablo 1 when deckard cain was like "hey hero stay awhile n lissun can u go milk the cow like 5 times then give it to ogden for 500 xp???" xd

retard nigger thinks diablo was an mmorpg and hes giving game advice :/

No you are just asked to bring the black mushroom to the witch. Go fetch the golden elixir to Lachdanan. Fetch Ogden's sign. Go kill the Butcher/Skelleton/King/etc. Activate some teleporters to get to Archbishop Lazarus. Yeah man those quest in Diablo 1 sure were the essence of deep complex puzzles, especially for a
dumbfuck.gif
like you I bet.

Sykar is so enamored that he allegedly unearthed mmorpg designs in arpgs liek diablo that he omits one very very important thing:

u can beat all of diablo 1 single player and without even engaging those quests except lazarus/diablo xd

aka there is no "mmo" component in diablo 1 cuz diablo 1 isnt an mmorpg u silly monkey faggot :3

no mmo component = no mmo design = no mmo fetch quests

retard prolly gonna compare crusader: no remorse to this next cuz isometric perspective

ur arguments r shit and ur shit get off codex or be bullied off luv u bye ^.^

just to remind u Sykar how bafflingly retarded u are im gonna use this insanely sick logic of urs against u:

rogue in wow uses combo points, combos are prominently featured in fighting games, therefore the rogue in wow is a fighting game character because they use combos to link moves together

in thief u assume the role of garret, therefore thief is a roleplaying game :3

if this sykar retard cant differentiate a one off quest from repetitive tasks of an mmorpg quest then theres no hope but the rope sad to say v_v

Just because something is an MMO doesn't mean it's designs can't be similar to another genre.

Diablo 1 had gonzo porn levels of quests in terms of design. Diablo 1 and 2 routinely had people spending, commonly, 100+ US dollars on rune collections. This is a known fact. You would know this if you actually lived through this time period. In fact, I can go to ebay right the fuck now, and STILL find auctions for items in Diablo 1. These have existed essentially since ebays inception.

People who have wanted to spend money instead of time in a game have always existed. They have always sought methods whether it be power leveling, boosting, selling raids, to accrue in game power and capital with their real life power and capital. Beyond that; As a game within a capitalist market, it actually behooves any game to control this income source and create a revenue stream for their investors/company from it.

Now for the less factual portion, and more anecdotal.

It used to be to buy gold on WoW you'd go to some shady virus infected website filled with sweatshop worker level employees from SEA or possibly worse, Brazil, and buy the currency there. WoW token, when it was impleneted, captured this market and made a floor that was low enough it's not reasonable to sell gold there anymore really. At least as far as I know. This forced all but the biggest operations out of business. And increased the total market control Blizz has of it's own game.

WoW tokens too expensive in some servers? Release 2000 or so on various servers where they are too expensive, at the rates you want. You don't lose anything relatively speaking. And in fact it acts as a gold sink.

o boy a new retard joins the fray to defend a crappy korean game :/

pls explain how one off quests = constant fetch quests/"go here, talk to/collect this, hand in to big question mark man, move on to next exclamation point and repeat" cuz last i remember these werent hallmarks of old diablo games and became trademarks of shitty soulless mmorpgs like lost ark :3

Diablo 1 had gonzo porn levels of quests in terms of design.

https://diablo.fandom.com/wiki/Diablo_I_Quests

i accept ur spiritual apology

Diablo 1 and 2 routinely had people spending, commonly, 100+ US dollars on rune collections. This is a known fact.

wow that must have been a rly kewl diablo 1 mod u played cuz runes/runewords didnt exist until lord of destruction u dumbfuck xd

You would know this if you actually lived through this time period. In fact, I can go to ebay right the fuck now, and STILL find auctions for items in Diablo 1.

oh ya??? well if U lived thru the time period u would know diablo 1 was the single easiest game to hack/dupe in the whole universe that nobody was gonna buy something they could just will into existence for free. to test ur theory i put into ebay "diablo 1 godly plate of the whale" and got nothing. then i put in "kings sword of haste" and got nothing.

everybody walking around in d1 online was a fully kitted out character edited ubergod, no credit card swipes needed. check ur own knowledge before ya flex, faggot. ^.~

also lol @ citing d2 resurrected, a game released a few months ago and shows how bad the rot has become because retards like u and Sykar justify this darwin project by going, "well there was this one time when a guy bought windforce with a credit card so..." xd

edit for further pwnage: also u linked a third party site, not a cash shop thats integrated in game and the first thing u see when you look down on the UI like in lost ark :3

The woosh is audible from here. Counter the supporting evidence, but not the actual points.

Let me TL;dr and break it down for you in maximum two syllable words, because you clearly lack the attention span for anything else.

My point was, this type of thing will happen.

NO MATTER WHAT.

And that in this world, run by money, a game dev has a duty to make money where they can. No matter what.

It is better for the gamer to have it first party, because the dev has a duty of service to make good on product. And to make money for their owner.

People have always traded money for time. And vice versa. This is fact. You cannot prevent this.

As a final point, You are a dumbfuck.
