Maybe he just has some standards so discovered it is over rated and kind of shit like all stealth games.

Fuck, I don't want to be Dumbfuck but I'm really not feeling these undead maps. Maybe I should play T2 and come back to finish TG later or something.

I've never hugely enjoyed the non-human Thief maps. I know they're there to shake up the formula a little, but for me it's all about the warehouses, churches and manors with a touch of the industrial.

Yeah, I get why they're there, especially in historical context since they were probably afraid that a dozen levels based entirely on stealth (a largely unexplored genre at the time) would get old. But the issue is that when this game is at its best, it's the best. That's what makes its lows feel so low.

This is fair criticism, it's pretty much the main driving point why there are only eight undead in the entirety of Thief 2. (Can you find them all?)

It's just a fact that not everyone can accept and handle the multitudes of enemies and environments that Thief 1/Gold throws at people. I cast no blame in that regard.

But in my opinion, the people that CAN appreciate the 'diversity' of Thief 1/Gold and consider it superior to the more 'reliable' Thief 2, those are the :obviously: taffers. But as long as you enjoy the Thief games (even Deadly Shadows, but we do not speak about Thiaf) and see what they do that's beyond almost every other game out there, you're cool with me.

But whatever you do, don't be mongoloid-level stupid and lie to us. The Codex has a long list of degrading tags and custom titles for a reason.

Well, yeah, if I was that dumb I doubt I'd have even made it to Return to the Cathedral.

Variety is what makes Thief Gold much more replayable for me. I am yet to do a second run of Thief II because I remember how burnt out I felt towards the end of first one. Though it's coming soon, can't keep replaying only Thief Gold forever.

Of course not. I hope you don't think I'm characterizing LARPing as bad, because it isn't. But on the Codex, if you're playing by your own magical rules because it's more fun than "playing to win", you're LARPing. Get comfortable with yourself or you've got a tough road ahead.
Self-imposed challenges are now considered larping??

Yeah. Anything where the game "doesn't care", where you're doing it just for your own enjoyment, that's LARPing by the Codex definition.

Huh. I only remember four.
Two dancing outside the starting area in Framed, and the two you can summon in Life of the Party.
Where are the others, if you don't mind me asking?

There are haunts in the catacombs under the cathedral in Eavesdropping. Also spirit haunts patrolling the prison in Framed (although they are non-hostile/impossible to interact with), the ghost of pirate captain wossname in Precious Cargo and the apparition haunting the library in Casing the Joint.

My count, IIRC:

Two dancing zombies in "Framed" (I don't count the non-hostile ones in the prison)
Two haunts in "Eavesdropping"
One haunt in "Blackmail" (Not a lot of taffers know about this one)
One zombie in "Life of the Party"
One haunt in "Precious Cargo"
One apparition in "Casing the Joint" (it reappears in Masks, but I see no reason to count it twice)

If I'm off, it's only by one or so.

I'm pretty much in McPlusle's camp, I love stealth games (with Chaos Theory being my absolute favorite) so I went to play Thief Gold the past year expecting stealth gameplay. I didn't find that pinnacle of stealth that people claim, because Thief is after all a huge exploration game before a stealth one. The stealth segments are drawn out and far from each other. That's not to say I didn't like the game, I definitely see its charm, the immersion and atmosphere was top notch... but I felt like I was playing a more intricate Tomb Raider than a Stealth game. The stealth mechanics were solid but as I said, so few stances of them. Again, not saying it's bad (it seems heresy to not completely idolize Thief here) but it wasn't what I was expecting. I can understand why you would love playing this game in release date having no expectations of what you're gonna find there. But when everyone tells you that IT'S the stealth game, well, it's different. Expectations matter I guess.

I haven't played Thief 2 yet, I know that it's more focused on stealth so I might like it more, but I got kinda burned out from trudging through Thief 1.

Also i just failed casing the joint because some dude on another floor got alerted...:dealwithit:
