Oh so one of later games had water arrows. Truly, an improvement over that previous game that didn't have them.. And main problem is that knocking out guards is too hard.. Yeah, post is fucking legit, definitely someone who played the games and knows what he's talking about.

It's not that it is hard, more the opposite of that, it just feels clunky and gimpy and slow motion and there is no finesse to it. And what's wrong with the water arrows thing?

Everything. It proves you haven't played the damn game and are talking out of your ass. Likely copying what you've read written somewhere else by other clueless retard. Every single Thief game has water arrows. Your complaints about knocking out guards being too hard are equally laughable, if anything it's too easy. "Oh no, I have to get really close to land a hit.." If you actually played these games and still think these things then I'm scared to even imagine the level of retard you're on. Or you're just a sleazebag who pretends to have played an old game he really has no intention of ever touching.

I played all of them except Thi4f. And I never said anything was too hard. I played the original Thief when it first came out, before you were born, and then again a few years ago. They are gimpy games with boring gameplay, except Deadly Whatever which was kind of good. Also the same is true of Deus Ex. Over rated and boring. Also you have the worst avatar I've seen on this forum. It looks like kids cartoon alien was photoshopped onto Santa's shoulders. Also I doubt you have even played any of these games, because I'm pretty sure Lithuania has no electricity and everyone lives in war torn rubble.

tl;dr

I want to enjoy a stealth game but I can't because the game offers me the possibility of knocking off the guards.

I'm not the only one who has no issue with bonking every guard I see with the blackjack, am I? I may just be too used to games like Splinter Cell where you're asked to sneak your way down a hallway, which is way harder to ghost your way through than the massive spaces presented in Thief.

Also, hot take: I liked the Mage Towers.

Armor doesn't make you immune to blunt forces.

Cept for that one guard outside Truart's mansion.

A god amongst men he is. :obviously:

Of course you can slaughter everyone but I mean you could also eat a McDonalds hamburger with knife and fork if you really wanted to

I like eating burgers that way. Pizza too with just the fork, helps keep your fingers clean~

As a kid I loved killing the guards. That also highlights the other play mode in Thief, that is to not sneak at all and have to deal with whatever guards aggro on you. Playing the hell out of the demo I got tired and managed to gather all the guards and take them on at once, once.

I always loved Thief's melee combat. Iit's a heck of a lot more than what you'd expect a stealth game to bother with.

I already mentioned that Thief is very viable to ghosting - the fan community of Thief invented the term iirc.

This seems to be a problem that's getting worse and worse in gaming: Players unable to figure out new playstyles on their own and expect them to be built specifically for them by designers.

When it comes to RPGs I this when anything considered too high is practically undamageable and has other mechanics to dissuade you from killing mobs that you're not high enough to kill when so much of my enjoyment in RPGs is finding ways to do just that.

Of course not. I hope you don't think I'm characterizing LARPing as bad, because it isn't. But on the Codex, if you're playing by your own magical rules because it's more fun than "playing to win", you're LARPing. Get comfortable with yourself or you've got a tough road ahead.

Self-imposed challenges are now considered larping?? :retarded:

And what's wrong with the water arrows thing?

They were there from the first game and a hallmark of the series as a whole.

When you think of unique weapons in a series and Thief comes up, the first thing that comes to mind are water crystals and wtf they actually work.

There needs to be real sword fighting or something.

Cept it has pretty decent sword fighting for the time it was made. Like I said, when I got tired of other play styles I'd just go into missions to mess with the melee combat that is something most other stealth games don't allow because the mechanics weren't developed.

Reading this thread makes obvious people dislike Thief 3. Why is that?

i dont

thief 3 is p cool and a legit thief game

It's enjoyable like a little light desert is after the big heavy meal that is he first two.

For me all would be forgivable if the levels were larger. I went through the three a couple years ago and felt so depressed seeing how tiny my favourite levels were, House of the Widow Moira and the Sunken Citadel. Especially the latter since it could have been so much more and I really like the idea behind the Kurshok and a race trapped underground that has forgotten everything and degenerated like they did.

Because it's not as good as the previous 2. It's not a bad game at all, it's just that the predecessors set a high very standard. The biggest problems with Thi3f have to do with the technological limitations of the fagbox. The levels were smaller, and not only that they were split in half due to the low processing power of the gaybox. Rope arrows were also removed, replaced with climbing gloves, which while cool, did not offer the same amount of versatility of the arrows. Garrett also forgot to swim apparently between the second and third games. Contact with water means instant death like he's now a vampire or something.

The developers did all they could with the tools they had available. I mean, the game looks good, it's got atmosphere, the story is captivating and the levels are pretty well designed considering the limitations they had to work with. Physics were now implemented, lighting was more dynamic and the AI noticed things like missing objects or opened doors. Not bad.

If Thi4f were as good as Thi3f, the community would have had no problems with it.
Also difficulty doesn't add side objectives! That was real decline!

Hell, Dark Messiah was more Thief than thief 4.

There needs to be real sword fighting or something. Bonking everyone is boring.
You wouldn't get bonked if you paid attention, Benny.

I'm at Return to the Cathedral and these fuckin sword assholes kinda just make me want to skip to Thief II, as I've heard that by this point I've seen the best that Thief Gold has to offer. Is this true?

Play the whole thing dude. Return to the Cathedral is a top tier mission, even with its dumb extra expert difficulty objective. The ones after that aren't the best missions but they are fine. The last level especially is quite fun although linear.

For many Return to the Cathredal is the highpoint of Thief (Gold). You want to consider yourself a taffer, you should at least complete that one.

You have three missions left, one which puts you at a great disadvantage but is short, one which is a rehash of a former mission, and then finally The Maw, which is also short but also very linear.

maybe OP wasn't looking for advice, maybe he just meant that he can't enjoy Thief, as in, he's mentally incapable of. Reading the thread, I think that's what the title means.
