Just found that "what winter?" trait of orcs. Looks interesting. Is there a hero with similar trait, so I can have a winter-immune army?

Orcs? Am I missing something? Because I'm pretty sure Orcs are unit from Hurnas (?) minor faction.

Most heroes have a talent for it, always at the end of talent tree.

Everybody have a talent in the middle tree that removes production penalties on cities. And also a skill on left tree on some cultist classes that removes move penalty "on garrisons". Dunno what that mean.

I was talking about that left "hero" talent tree, "Icy Veins" or something like that. Eliminates movement and stat penalty that of heroes army, but yeah wording is pretty confusing about it.
Some races have that talent, Vaulters and Drakens don't for example (maybe it changes with hero types)

Anyone else find the game sometimes forgets to apply damage? I've had an entire round of combat go by where one side's damage isn't actually counted - you see it float above the unit, but it never appears on the card. Wasn't a disaster with Vaulters, but it would be a nightmare with the Wild Walkers. Auto-resolve is at least honest.

Were you sieging a city? It's EL's weird way to apply city defence bonus.

It's probable - this would mean they'd have the fort symbol, instead of hearts on their initiative token, right? Nice to know it's a 'feature'.

Playing Cult is tricky. Having lots of free units is nice, but they are non-upgradeable. Having more return from settlement is nice, but they cost a fortune in influence to build, and they are wrecked a lot by wandering neutrals or AI. Lst one thing is done only by AI Cultist, I think, I was unlucky enough to have one. Am I supposed to have garrison in each settlement? Or mobile defence force in each province? I'm to used to have one or two army in empire.
Also, I can a lot of influence OR food OR science production, but not all at once. Thankfully, I don't need much production and I can get dust from selling units.

On the advice of many people over in the CivBE thread I went ahead an got this and I've got to say, so far it's been awesome. I don't have much more to add to the other praise in the thread except to say if you're on the fence go ahead an buy it. I can see that pretty soon I'll be at a point where the AI is just a nuisance and not a threat, but the systems are fun enough that I'll keep playing just to 'beat my own score' as it were.

Also, who wouldn't play a game where you can research

Bought 2 copies of this. One for me and one for a bro. My bro is having trouble with his copy though. Menu loads up fine, but when he tries to launch a game or the tutorial, it hangs for about a minute, then crashes to desktop. A casual googling didn't turn anything up. Have anyone had this issue before?

I've only played the tutorial so far. The systems seem interesting, but the AI complaints are a bit disheartening. Good thing that half my steam friends list seem to be playing EL right now. Maybe multiplayer will be gud.

That was my assumption too. I already made him upgrade his vidya drivers, directx and .NET. No dice.

Is he playing on a laptop? If game is using onboard grpahics card that kind of crashes happens.

Just beat the game with the Roving Clans. Man, they are hard to take off, but when they get going, shit goes hogwild. At the end I was making around 70k dust a turn, 15-20k science a turn and I had multiple +8 doom stacks of 1000 hp devils and orc archers raping everyone.

Again, this game really immerses me with the lore. The Roving clan starts off with a young hustler stud guy, and then the quest line ends with him being old and grey [The in-game art also reflects this which makes it even better], and going crazy from his greed. Just really solid character development through every storyline I've seen.

Also, I'm getting the vibe that the "End of Ages" last era probably has to do with the Endless coming back and raping everyone. Pretty neat that the game ends on a bad note regardless of who you play as and what you accomplish.

The canon end of game event has nothing to do with the Endless, it is your faction leaving the planet in SPASS SHEEPZ before it wipes out all life (it is going through a tectonic cataclycsm or something along those lines, that's why the winters are harsh and etc).

Played my first game yesterday after finishing the Tutorial and RTFM as Cultists, using all-default settings.

Talk about bad starts. I was deposited on a desert, next to an ocean (west side of the map basically), cut off completely to the south (and partially to the East) by Necrophages and Drakken, and cut off much of the way north (and also partially to the east) by Roving Clans and Wild Walkers. There were pathways through to both the north and the east, but my scouts were pursued and pecked to death by other factions pretty quickly. I did manage to complete a few quests, but then the game crashed when a wandering army attacked my city, and I figured I'd start a new game today when I had time.

I don't think I like the default map options much. It's incredibly cramped, which, considering most factions seem to start the game with combat units and that everyone tries to kill everyone else's scouts during Cold War, is a bit annoying. I'm going to up the size, reduce total NPC factions by 1 or even 2, and see how that does me.

Pretty much what I did - 200+ turns in, I still don't know who one of the AI factions are (strangely, nobody got wiped out, although I may be tipping the Drakons towards extinction. Even though they're exhausted, they refuse to accept a truce, and high level rangers > high level draklings.

The early game bloodbath for the precious few usable land spots is one of my favorite things about EL.

I have a feeling cramped maps would actually work out relatively well for Cultists given their city limitation, provided they're not hemmed in halfway down one side of Pangaea in a desert at the start. I obviously haven't mastered the game yet, but the mechanics are very familiar to anyone who's played SMAC or Civ.

I typically dislike the land grab phase in most 4X games, especially if RNG plays a significant role, which it nearly always does. Different strokes.

This game's presentation is top-notch by the way, other than the occasional typo. The artwork, graphics, and UI are very slick, and on my rig the game runs flawlessly on max settings, unless it decides to crash I guess.

Are you sure about that? The Wild Walker questline is about exploring ruins and the cyclical nature of things, and the picture of the end of eras is a lone, weird, tornado thing attacking a castle.
