Just how old of a build are you hunting for? This thread has Mupen builds from 2013 yet when I checked in RetroArch, the menu still showed "2.0-rc2" for them. So I'm not sure if the version number has ever been updated.
Weird. The build I used was the most recent at the time when I downloaded it at the beginning of the year. I was halfway through playing Conker's Bad Fur Day and a few weeks ago I decided to update all the cores I had.

Immediately after, I was no longer able to even boot up Conker. All I got were these flickering boxes over a black screen so I figured the update must have had something to do with it.

Well it's pre-alpha so... yeah, might want to wait like a few months, a year or even longer. This is N64 emulation we're talking about after all. By the time it's fully playable, even Cen64 may be usable by then as well.

In the mean time, GlideN64 plugin is still being worked on. You can find latest official builds from the author here: https://github.com/gonetz/GLideN64/issues/885

To be honest the accuracy of frame response in Retroarch (thanks to OpenGL and video_hard_sync=true, 0 frames) is so good that it has spoiled me completely, to the point that I find it nearly impossible to use other emulators now. PCSX2 is especially egregious, input response is just awful in comparison, not to mention the microstutters at perfect 60fps and general timing errors of that emulator.

I hope every single emulator out there gets a RA core. The brilliant shaders are the icing on the cake, but what really sets it apart from everything else is the near perfect input and frame response.

I managed to fix the issue of Retroarch not even being able to load Conker's Bad Fur Day. Downloading the core through the online updater again fixed it. The issue I'm having now is this:

I have no clue how to toggle the untextured character model that is in the upper left corner of the screen. Anyone have any idea?

I'd highly recommend bookmarking this site for proper game configs. Though some of the info is older, N64 emulation still hasn't progressed much at all: http://bhemuhelp.co.nf/n64mgcl/source/c.html

I hope every single emulator out there gets a RA core.

Yeah, I'm especially waiting for 100% acurrate Atari Jaguar emulator so I could finally, after many years run BattleSphere.
Good luck waiting on that. Virtual Jag is basically a one person crew afaik and he rarely works on it. It hasn't been updated for over 2 years. Here's the author if you want to pester him.

Ok, latest AMD drivers run Vulkan :greatjob:

Unfortunately my ancient PC in livingroom can't quite run ParaLLEl at fullspeed. Still, it should get faster as they work on it.

Bros, how about a little bit of testing?
Since both Disgaea and Phantom Brave are now available on PC, let's compare how all available versions look.

1) Disgaea PS2

Nothing fancy, 4:3 only, default internal res since higher causes glitches (can be fixed by fiddling about probably, but whateva)

01_1.png

02_1.png

03_1.png

2) PB PS2
Same as above.

04_1.png

05_1.png

06_1.png

3) DG PSP
16:9 output + more options (and additional gameplay stuff). Good luck with finding proper "software" mode in ppsspp, dough... Plus, font is meh no matter what you do. Higher internal = glitches.

12_1.png

13_1.png

4) PB PSP
See above.

14_1.png

15_1.png

16_1.png

Sprite filtering disabled:

17_1.png

5) PB Wii
4:3 only, except of that similar to the PSP version. Higher res for some textures (?).

18_1.png

19_1.png

20_1.png

And now for some incline (?).

6) Disgaea PC
It looks like it's based on PSP (PS3?) version: uses 16:9 window (960:544), which can be stretched vertically (which = wrong AR). A ton of options.

31_1.png

32_1.png

33_1.png

34_1.png

35_1.png

You can't set resolution manually, in full screen game will just resize output to your native:

36_1.png

37_1.png

Still,

:greatjob:

7) Phantom Brave PC
Looks like it's based on Wii (PS3?) version: you can set both AR and resolution manually.

41_1.png

42_1.png

43_1.png

44_1.png

45_1.png

Even more options for UI (old/new, AA):

46_1.png

47_1.png

Anyway, using my native res it looks great (except sprites, but whatev):

48_1.png

:greatjob:

Verdict:

Switched to postimage.org, since imgur died horrible death.

You can enable/disable it, but sprites will be low-res anyway. Which isn't surprising - PS2 used 320x240 AFAIK .

http://henkaku.xyz/

HENkaku is the first ever homebrew enabler for PS Vita and PSTV. It is akin to jailbreaking your iPhone or rooting your Android device.

Homebrew are games and other software not officially approved. For example, VitaDoom is a port of the classic game DOOM and mGBA lets you play Game Boy Advance ROMs. You can find more examples in the showcase.

Best of all, HENkaku is 100% free. No cost. No ads. No “donations”.

How do I get it?
Visit https://henkaku.xyz from the built-in web browser on your PS Vita and press the “Install” button to install HENkaku. You must do this every time you reboot the console–that is, every time you turn the console off and on again.

What are the requirements?
You need a PS Vita or PSTV running system firmware 3.60. Unfortunately, it is not possible to run HENkaku on any device running a higher firmware version and it is also not possible to downgrade your system firmware.

You also need a memory card (any size) with at least 10MB of free space. Internal memory on newer devices is currently not supported. In order to transfer homebrew to your device, you also need a FTP client for your computer. We recommend FileZilla. Finally, you need an internet connection to install HENkaku.

tl;dr:

Vita on firmware 3.60
Internet connection
FTP client on your PC
Memory card
It is important that you never update your Vita past 3.60 if you ever wish to use HENkaku now or in the future. If you do update, all your installed homebrew will no longer work and you cannot install any homebrew in the future.

Details and Support
More details and troubleshooting can be found in the usage guide. If you are a developer, please check out the developer guide and help contribute to the homebrew community.

This is very awesome news. Mednafen has added Sega Saturn emulation. Haven't tried it yet but feedback is looking great. Pal and save states aren't supported yet. With what he's been able to do with PS1 emulation, hopefully the same will be done for Saturn finally.

http://forum.fobby.net/index.php?t=msg&goto=4409&#msg_4409

This release adds experimental Sega Saturn emulation. It currently is x86_64-only, very CPU-intensive, lacking save state support, and not supporting PAL-region games. However, SSF("Saturn Sound Format") rip playback is not limited to x86_64 platforms.

Significant end-user changes compared to 0.9.38.7:
  • Added experimental Sega Saturn emulation.
  • Low-accuracy "snes_faust" SNES emulation module is now compiled in and available by default(but not used by default, except for SPC playback).
  • The version is now displayed in the upper right corner of the F1 help screen.
  • Scrolling in the netplay and cheat consoles is now done in visible line units, instead of internal line units as before, and when a console is not scrolled all the way down, a green indicator arrow will now be drawn in the lower right corner.
  • Revamped the layout of the debugger's memory editor.
  • MD: Replaced old 68K emulator with new 68K emulator developed for Saturn emulation. Fixes major issues in "Double Clutch", "James Pond 3", and "Sub-Terrania". However, timing is currently a bit off with the new 68K emulation code, so there may be some regressions.
  • MD: Implemented kludge to fix a startup lockup in "Turrican".
  • NES: Implemented kludge to fix a minor Zelda 2 title screen glitch, a status bar glitch in Burai Fighter, and scrolling in the second stage of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.
  • NES: Enabled SSE2 support in the audio resampler(though not used on all CPUs with SSE2 support, mostly just newer ones).
  • NES, PCE, PC-FX: Added ARM NEON support to the audio resamplers(when compiled with -mfpu=neon or similar).
  • PCE, PC-FX: Added AVX support to the audio resampler.
  • PS1: Enabled emulation of a rarely-used CDC feature; fixes lockup bug in "Fantastic Pinball Kyutenkai".
  • PS1: Reordered CPU class data layout for a small performance boost on ARM CPUs.
  • SNES: Updated libco, for ARM support.

Settings added:
  • filesys.fname_savbackup
  • filesys.path_savbackup
  • netplay.console.scale
  • netplay.console.font
  • netplay.console.lines
  • ss.*

Settings removed:
  • netplay.smallfont

Upscaling? Would rather finally see 100% compatibility and better accuracy. Being able to dump SSF will be nice and this implementation is supposedly already better than Yabause, which isn't saying much.

What other SS games that aren't on already on PC or other emus are worthwhile?

I'm no Saturn expert as I had only owned the console for a few months back in the day and have only tested a number of games, but these are probably worth checking out.

Die Hard Trilogy
Dragon Force
NIGHTS into dreams
Mr. Bones
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Lunacy
Three Dirty Dwarves
Shining the Holy Ark
Shining Force III

There were also a number of good arcade ports like Daytona USA, Sega Rally and such.

It's a competition now between Mednafen and Xenia, and IMHO Mednafen has the upper hand.

Great news since Mednafen is far and away the best PSX emulator. Hopefully Saturn can be accurately emulated now, I imagine this happened as a result of that guy finally cracking the disc protection algorithm. Disc timings can now be properly set.

Project64 2.3 is out.
Does it contain malware? Is there something worth mentioning about it before we go back to retroarch/mendafen?
