Well it looks like the "one man development team " new ps2 emulator Play! for both windows and android has been making some progress:

The last video is obviously unplayable.

But for this stage of development it is progressing nicely.

Unfortunately almost every single video and forum post mentioning this seems to be the same:"What is the point when have ultra accurate PCSX2, lol this emulator is garbage."

I don't think people realize pcsx2 has been in development for 14 years and is still far from perfect.

Hell it reminds me of the early snes and n64 emulation(meaning people didn't understand the need for accurate emulators and not using hacks to run games)

It still is in development(although it is progressing quickly) and has along way to go before being called working.
And this is a general advice for any future emulators, wait a minimum of 3-4 years before thinking it will be considered playable by today standards.
And by that time the new CPU's will be actually able to run the emulators at playable speed.

Deep in your subconscious mind spreading lies.
ePSXe 2.0.2 for windows have been released:
ePSXe changelog:

  • Multi-language support. Added French and Russian languages (Thanks to Benjamin Sisko and paul_met). Other languages could be added in a future version.
  • Fixed a delay slot bug in the interpreter cpu mode. It should run again some games broken on interpreter cpu mode on the v2.0. Fixed loading savestates from the UI in interpreter mode.
  • Improved CDROM timing accuracy, bugs and change disc problems. Improved the timing when seeking and reading cdrom sectors, fixed Tales of Destiny 2 changedisc and fixed Twins Story and Harukanaru Toki no Naka de - Banjou Yuugi.
  • Improved the GPU timing (when using the ePSXe GPUCORE). It fixes or improve some games as: Namco Vol 4, Soul Blade, Tunguska, Derby Stallion, Derby Stallion 99, NBA Live 99, Sangokushi Eiketsuden, Dukes of Hazzard, Alice in Cyberland, Vampire Hunter D, Macross Digital Mission VF-X, Monaco Grand Prix Racing, Power Dolls 2, Spots Goes To Hollywood ...
  • Improved the GPUCORE. Fixed a bug while transfering data, improved screen centering (Star Ocean 2, Jumping Flash 2, Hogs of War...), fixed some gargabe on the borders when changing the resolution, fixed a scrolling problem, fixed a screen ratio problem when changing from windowing to fullscreen on the fly, added vsync support, and added support to select the blitter as OpenGL2 or OpenGL1 (it should be compatible with some old videocards, but shader support is not supported in OpenGL1 mode).
  • Improved the openGL2 plugin. Fixes Xmen Mutant Academy 1 & 2, Nascar Thunder 2002/2003/2004, Pro Pinball - Big Race Usa, Pro Pinball - TimeShock, Pro Pinball Fantastic Journey and Worms Pinball (use framebuffer effects=0 in the pinball games).
  • Changes in the SPUCORE. Implemented the SPU mute flag, it fixes some sound glitches during the pause in the game: Car & Driver Presents - Grand Tour Racing 98.
  • Changes in the INPUTCORE. Now it has native supports for XInput devices, select Xinput when configurating the gamepad in the config dialog if you want use the XInput API. (mapping buttons is not required).
  • Fixed the external input plugins support when stopping and pressing continue.
  • Fixed the changedisc option when using external GPU plugins.
  • Added support to overclock the PSX CPU. You can select x1, x1.5, x2.0, x3.0 and x4.0. Be careful it could break compatibility.
Time to break most of the games with the overclock feature.
I wish they would add support for converted ps1 games. Then again I have no idea what that would require and it's probably not worth it, effort wise.

I was bored last night and decided to test Carmine on every emulator from the Neo Kobe emulator pack.

ph7RaUU.png

GUYS, I'VE FOUND OUT HOW TO FIX MOST OF THE GRAPHICS ISSUES

1. Download Neo Kobe Emu Pack.
2. Use the Neko Project 2 nt exe located in the "(1985) PC-9801VM (np2fmgen)" directory.
3. Go to screen options.
4. Set the Graphics Display Controller to "uPD72020" and Graphic Charger to "EGC". Also, slow down the processor to ~8 MHz.
5. Enjoy the game.

The only remaining issues are:
1. Black screen while aiming at the enemy.
2. You can't hit some of the enemies, but that doesn't look like an emulator issue anymore, since it looks like the same bug is present on every PC-98 emulator and even more -- looks like the Project EGG version has the same issue. However, you can try to run away from the enemies. The biggest bugger is the RUMA that you may encounter after healing IRENE=KESTNER.

Anyhoo, if anyone is willing to play this game, get it here. It's a massive bitch to find today.

There's a Megaman.exe game that plays like a normal Mega Man game? Wth.

EDIT: Oh, and this update sounds great.

Great news about Dolphin 5.0, but when I went to test it, Castlevania Rebirth (the Wiiware retro Castlevania game) didn't work. Can anyone else confirm? Works fine with 4.02.

Yup game freezes on the first loading screen regardless of video plugin.
Probably will be fixed in 5.1

I've tried the latest Ishiiruka and no cigar for Castlevania.

Oh well, at least Dolphin 5.0 runs F-Zero GX properly finally! It's my favourite racing game of all time, truly a gem.

does Citra run 3ds games yet? mainly asking for purposes of playing etrian odyssey and soul hackers; i hold out hope because those type of games are not like, you know, action game-y, so they would still be perfectly playable even with a bad frame-rate.

The problem isn't running them, the problem is that nobody actually finished them,so even if you can play them there is no way to tell where the games will simply break.
But if you want to try running may i recommend the unofficial Chinese builds you can find here:https://pan.baidu.com/share/home?uk=33717959#category/type=0.
This build runs faster then the current citra build.
You need the libgcc_s_seh_64-1.dll that you put in the citra folder.
Personally i would wait at least a year before even attempting to seriously play any game on citra.
And remember citra only runs decrypted 3ds rom files.

Do you have an older version of the mupen64plus core for retroarch? I updated mine about a week ago to version 2.0-rc2 and it broke the game I was playing before. Finding compiled versions of older cores is more difficult than it should be and any help would be appreciated.

Cool, if you disable dual core Castlevania Adventure works just fine. I think right now Dolphin is a lot better than PCSX2.

Of all the cool games I have, out of all the cool emulated shit that one could be playing, I'm actually playing through the Gamecube version of Gauntlet Dark Legacy.

I actually think it's the best Gauntlet game ever (Gauntlet 4 on the Genesis is a close runner-up). I never thought I'd say this.

Had never played the GC version, it has a persistent inventory which makes the game a lot easier, but even so it's a lot of fun. Levels are varied and even the 90s style textures are great - models are shit but who cares.

I miss having actual levels in games where interesting things happened, instead of linear boxes connected by straight corridors.

Even the music is pretty great. Every single level has its own theme and they're usually good or at least memorable in some way.

Level quality is uneven but that is to be expected since there are so many of them (40ish in this version?). The good ones are really good. Interestingly enough, the game opens with a much stronger set of levels than the original Gauntlet Legends (they bumped the boring Mountain world up one hub).

No one wants to play multiplayer, though. People cannot get past the crummy models and shitty animation, I guess. It's playable enough solo, so no great loss there.

Just how old of a build are you hunting for? This thread has Mupen builds from 2013 yet when I checked in RetroArch, the menu still showed "2.0-rc2" for them. So I'm not sure if the version number has ever been updated.
