So it seems like the game wil be a sequel but will contain the original story within? So it is like what Evil Dead 2 is to the original movie? Kinda looks like it.

Just to put my 3 cents here, played the game like a year ago and once it hooked me I've been playing this game for 300h. It was the only game I have played at the time. Felt like a teenager again, was so hooked (neve played Dark Souls or any other similiar game). The game is just very charming and "gamey", just love it. The Dragon ended up kidnapping that cute fisherman from the village and on a later playtrough the she-goat hating knight - guess I am a certified, she-goat hating, confirmed bachelor.
Mostly played the main game, still have to finish BBI after all this time, remember I stopped after defeating that beholder thing. Guess it is a good time to start playing again.

Vocations I have tried: Warrior - mega fun and balanced;
Assassin - OP and fun, but boring after some time;
Mystic Knight - very fun, kinda unique (class I've settled on).
Sorcerer - Best magic in a video game, very satisfying.
Oh and the itemization is more interesting than in some of the proper RPGs. A lot of unique wears and weapons. This game is just pure, gamey fun.

Remember, treat the pawns nicely!

Things about Dragon's Dogma that are good:

-Combat is DMC based, even lizardmen and skeletons are a blast to fight
-Giant monsters are fun to fight
-4-player party
-Magic is tricky to pull off but very powerful
-Pawn system is cool; endlessly cycling party members leads to a lot of variety
-Intro Music
-Great dungeons

Not so great things:

-Smol overworld
-Few dungeons overall
-The "affinity" system is half-baked (the Innkeeper is your looooover)
-Heavy content re-use/backtracking
-Second half feels unfinished
-Combat system sorta breaks down at high levels; poor scaling.
-Dark Arisen expansion was meh for me

I shared my opinion on this game after playing it and on the developers behind it, whose games I have 2 decades worth of experience with.
Projection detected...? You might be somewhat of a Capcom fanboy yourself. As for me, Dragon's Dogma is the only Capcom game I've played in at least 2 decades, and the worst thing about it is that it's made by fucking Capcom with their bullshit DRM and consolefaggotry.

Wanna know how I ended up playing it? It was on sale pretty cheap and it piqued my curiousity, but I still wasn't sold, so I googled it and some rpgcodex thread came up, I think it was "what shit game are you wasting time on?" where the sentiment was that it's a flawed gem. Divine Divinity was another one like that, another DD (coincidence?), and the sequels are utter shit, which the codex naturally hyped up as "majestic incline", which does not bode well for Dragon's Dogma 2 either. Are you picking up what I'm putting down? Everything is shit, but at least there's a charm to what we lovingly refer to as "shit games" here.

And there's nothing wrong with outdated Xbox 360 graphics. It depends on the game, some used it better than others, but games with more modern graphics are nothing but a uniform mass of eye cancer.

The story is cyclical. The dragon is sent by the Arisen to look for a successor, rinse and repeat.

Also about the affinity system, you have to do more sidequests and do them when you're supposed to. Some of them are timed, but not in proper time, instead it checks when you move from a certain main quest threshold to the next.

Yeah, BBI is more fun if you start a new game, go there at a low level, try different vocations, weapons, spells, especially shit that seems unplayable at first. You have to deliberately handicap yourself. Hard mode isn't hard enough and it gives you tons of GP instead of loot and RC which is what you need most in BBI. So you wear less armor, skip the quests so you level up slower, and get rid of your pawns. I got bored of them after a while anyway. Now I play just for the combat, to see how badly I can break it.

You can also give them gifts. There are hints about this in item descriptions. For example flowers will say things like "favored by Cassardi women" or "favored by Madeline". Give that item to that person and they'll be overjoyed. Keep doing it and you'll see a pink aura around them whenever you talk to them. When it's maxed out, that person should be your beloved. If you only do it for the character you want, and don't do all the Madeleine and Princess quests, you should be good.

And if you want to get into the Dark Manse but don't want the princess as your lover, just hump her and dump her in the water lol.

Why is that? BBI is, imo, the best content in the game and even has some pretty atmospheric moments.

You’ve got something that looks like Bluemoon Tower, but Bluemoon Tower is basically Pieter Bruegel‘s The Tower of Babel and could just be a design element they’re carrying over like Final Fantasy carries over a number of different things from game to game.

There’s similar architecture, but I don’t think the city shown in the trailer is meant to be Gran Soren.

Dragon’s Dogma Online took place in a different land (Lestania) on a different world from Dragon’s Dogma. The original game also has it built into the lore that there’s multiple realities so they’ve got this built in explanation to do the same thing Final Fantasy does with the world changing from game to game.

Bland tasteless generic open world that you wander around killing trash mobs aimlessly.
How are griffins, basilisks, manticores trash mobs to you?

It's a mob that sits somewhere in the game world between you and where you are going. It doesn't have a backstory behind it. It's just there for you to run into it and fight it. Yeah, a Griffon has a lot of health and some abilities, and you can climb it. Doesn't make it not a Trash fight. It's just more involved to take it down due to the DD combat system.

I don't care if you can climb a griffin. I'm not that easily impressed. You could climb shit in Shadow of Colossus. A 2005 game on PS2.

Why are you so impressed by that in 2023? Is that all it takes, Really? It's still a bland and boring open world. And DD2 looks exactly the same except it will be 4 times bigger. Oh lord.. make these bland and empty open worlds fucking end..
You are correct, DD has something in common with Shadow of the Colossus, one of the best games ever made. Wow, how embarrassing.

I mostly played as a big sword class and it really showed many problems with the vocation system. Any airborne enemies I basically couldn't deal with as my vocation didn't have any ranged attack.

Almost every class has some sort of weak spot like not being able to deal much physical or magick damage or ranged attacks. But there are still ways to deal with it and it's also why well trained pawns can make a huge difference.

Not sure how vocations having different strengths and weaknesses is a problem, but whatever. If it bugs you that much just go strider into assassin and play how you like. Keep back up enchanted weapons or pawns with enchantment spells to deal with physical resistant/immune enemies.

Anyway I'd say people are excited precisely because the base of a great game is there, it just lacked content. As you say, the quests and story was unfinished and dull.

I wonder whether the Moon was repurposed into something else, probably the Bitterblack Isle. It was a Main Mission so they had to have some work done on it.

i wonder if the moon might have been scrapped in the sense that since the 'everfall' no longer goes upwards as a tower does you can't reach the seneschal on the moon anymore. so he's just beyond the veil.

I'm a fan of classic RE 1,2,3. I played 4, 5, 6, and the remakes and I didn't finish any of them because they were SHIT! Does that sound like a Crapcom fanboy?
