I’m not even sure this game takes place in Gransys, or even the same world as the original Dragon’s Dogma. You’ve got something that looks like Bluemoon Tower, but Bluemoon Tower is basically Pieter Bruegel‘s The Tower of Babel and could just be a design element they’re carrying over like Final Fantasy carries over a number of different things from game to game.

There’s similar architecture, but I don’t think the city shown in the trailer is meant to be Gran Soren.

Dragon’s Dogma Online took place in a different land (Lestania) on a different world from Dragon’s Dogma. The original game also has it built into the lore that there’s multiple realities so they’ve go this built in explanation to do the same thing Final Fantasy does with the world changing from game to game.
It could be also in the past.
Problem with that idea is that the armor is actually more advanced. DD1 was actually one of the better games in regards to keeping its armor influences tied to a particular time period. You can see that all the, non-licensed, plate armor for the torso (Gryphic, Sectional Iron Plates, Royal Guard Armor) have plackarts, something only popular in the early-mid 1400s. Everything else is older, with "ancient" stuff taking influence from even older armor (greco-roman) or just not aligning to real world armor. DD2 trailer has later styles of plate present.

Projection detected...? You might be somewhat of a Capcom fanboy yourself.
I'm a fan of classic RE 1,2,3. I played 4, 5, 6, and the remakes and I didn't finish any of them because they were SHIT! Does that sound like a Crapcom fanboy?
I'm just talking shit. Can't fault you for liking the old RE's. Never played them myself but I never was much of a console gamer.

Expanded AI + pawns learning behavior from their users = greater potential for pawns to be even more tarded?

Usually not a graphics whore but I find the presentation very appealing. I like that they didn't fall for the usual sequel trappings of trying to out do themselves and going overboard.

If your pawn acts retarded, it's because you're acting retarded. They always imitate your actions.
Your pawn can't learn anything if it's never alive.

Joking aside, did you even play the game? There is part of it where you can summon other user's pawns.

The first one had some cool ideas but majority of the game was very grindy and filled with dull quests.
It's not really grindy as you don't have to grind levels. What it is though is badly paced with its beastiary. You'll be fighting nothing bigger than a Cyclops until, what, chapter 4? Then they added a bunch of pointless fetch quests that ruin the levelling curve and seem automatically generated. It's best to ignore them.

The Gryphon, the Golems, the Dragon, and the Drakes are fun fights and it takes too long to get to them.

And those pawns learn to do what they see as well. If you stay back and collect loot left by the enemies your pawns kill, they'll start doing that too.

Drakortha played six Resi games rather than just watching the first three movies like I did. Fanboy behavior at its worst. You hate to see it.

So apparently they're saying pawns will have even better A.I.

"Wolves hunt in packs", but with a needlessly elaborate, Stephen Fry-like delivery.

Bro, nobody likes CAPCOM here. We just like DD 1. You're trying too hard.
So the logic goes like this, then?

Drak played Crapcom games and didn't like them = Crapcom Fanboy
Codex plays Crapcom games, are hyped for new Crapcom game, and defends previous Crapcom game = Isn't a Crapcom fanboy

That's some really cool logic.

Now we're getting somewhere. Yes, precisely. Only fanboys care this much about the companies releasing games. Normal people just focus on the qualities, or lack thereof, of the actual games themselves. And don't get me wrong, I'm in the same boat as you, I just came aboard from another angle. I'm still a sulky faggot over Capcom's marketing of the DMC reboot and haven't bought one of their games since, barring Monster Hunter World. Whenever DD2 come out, I'll get it, but I'll pick up a used copy a year down the line and Capcom won't see a dime from my purchase.

is a 'capcom fan' even a thing. are the sonic fans obliged to play resident evil

Sonic is SEGA?

Anyway, I can't believe you don't see how 1942 clearly paved the way for Final Fight and Street Fighter which allowed Capcom to develop the design experience that would inspire Resident Evil and Dragon's Dogma.

When you think about it, Dragon's Dogma is just the latest iteration of Knights of the Round, which itself was a re-skinned Golden Axe.
