Literally Xbox 360 graphics.
And that's a good thing.
Xbox 360 Graphics in Avowed = This looks like shit, Obsidian have failed again, TOW was shit too
Xbox 360 Graphics in Dragons Dogma 2 = This looks like shit but that's a good thing. Everything Crapcom touches is gold. Take my money!

DD2 is aesthetically pleasing, though. Avowed looks outdated, which is fine, but looks stylistically ugly on top.

At least Avowed has some color and life to it.

DD2 looks drab and dull like someone smudged mud all over the screen.

Even the grass has a shade of grey over it. It's depressing to look at.

edit: seriously, ranger was my favorite vocation. barred for the broken combo tenfold arrow + explosive flask, it was so much fun to smipe things . i felt like Legolas in the movie , actually better than him. that's how a fantasy rpg should be

I was expecting after over 10 years they'd at least develop an open world worth exploring. Instead we get "4 times bigger!" Since when was bigger indicative of quality or being worth my time?
This is a particularly dim-witted criticism, since the original Dragon's Dogma is not truly an Open World game; the development team might initially have desired to create an Open World RPG, inspired by the Elder Scrolls series, but they quickly had to confront budget limitations which necessitated slashing the planned size of the overworld to one-third what it had been. The main quest and a handful of major sidequests are sufficient to take the player to every meaningful location, and there's little difference between playthroughs in what parts of the overworld are experienced by the player. Expanding the size of the overworld in the sequel to four times as much as the original's overworld means that the development team should have sufficient land area for an actual Open World design, which could fundamentally set the sequel apart from the original, and would also enhance replayability.

Your post reads like a piece of PR from Crapcom themselves. Yet you call my criticism dim-witted because I can think for myself and form my own opinion based on what I played back in 2012.

Why are you trying to sell this game to me? You're another idiot fanboy, that's why.

Dragon's Dogma 1 wasn't a true open world you guys, and that's why it sucked. But now they told me that Dragons Dogma 2 will be 4 times the detail that's how I know it will be good this time and worth exploring. ~Dim-Witted Crapcom Fanboy

At RPG Codex, we're a little more discriminating and prestigious in our judgments and interpretations on RPG-related matters than the language used on a (literal) fandom site, or often even than the developers and publishers themselves.
But you've evidently managed to circumvent the Codex's gatekeeping methods and are hellbent on spreading your scent over a multitude of threads. :M

God forbid I state my opinion on a discussion forum about video games. I guess I should just fuck off and don't come back until I have only positive takes?

Take that shit back to reddit, Crapcom mongrel.

You're right, it was his mistake to call your criticism dim-witted, because it's not even criticism.

In fact, he shouldn't've even pointed out the information that he posted, and just let you continue being a silly little clown.

If you had any gray matter to rub a tiny spark in that empty skull of yours, you'd thank him for trying to infuse some wisdom in you, because it's clearly obvious that YOU'RE CLEARLY LYING. You've never played DD 1. Not to any extent where anything you conjure up can be quantified as "criticism".

Typical fanboy responses in here. "You don't like our game, you must be an idiot, or you didn't even play it"

Can't even comprehend that maybe, just maybe, people outside their fanclub played their game and thought it was shit.

They cannot comprehend it as they become a rabid pack of animals at the first whiff of a contrary opinion.

Crapcom fanboys do this worse than any other clique.

I played DD1 and it was SHIT!
Care to expand on that
Already have. But I understand comprehension is low here when it comes to unpopular opinion so I'll try to keep it short.

Bland tasteless generic open world that you wander around killing trash mobs aimlessly. Plays like a tech demo for a decent combat system where they threw said combat system into an open world but forgot to build an actual game world around it worth engaging in. It's fun for about 10 hours, but after the initial first impression of the decent combat system wears off, you're left with nothing else to really enjoy at all.

For a game that calls itself an open world action-RPG, the open world and rpg elements suck ass. Only the action is decent. But again, it wears off.

So very controversial, I know.
