This game has semi-open areas that are so popular right now, with random collectibles and secret (read: they are on the map) that are so popular right now. Feels like I'm playing an Shadow of Mordor or some Ubilol game...

I don't know I can do this, as bad DA2 at least it was straight to the point. And the battle system is awfuuul

What class are you playing?

Mage at normal. Just keep spamming R2 while thundering shit.
Why are you playing on normal you pussy?
Why would anyone want shitty Dragon Age combats to last longer?
because playing on easy/normal lets you pretty much one-shot mobs?and than faggots complain in their reviews that they didn`t need to use tactical camera and just spammed X/RB cause enemies damage output is laughable? if you can kill mobs with two hits of your sword even before they can use their special abilities than the whole combat is just about who can deal more damage per second. you know its like playing Bg1/IWD1 with team of 6 archers and rain arrows on everything that moves:troll:

nightmare requires from you tactical camera to position your mage/archers above, block natural chokepoints, aggro with tanks, deaggro your rogues with stealth, utilize cross-class combos and abilities that are not pure damage dealers.

Good. Dragon Age are story games. Combat is just filler.

You bought DAI within days of it becoming available, and then ask why would anyone want shitty DAI combat to last longer? Hell, I dunno, why does shitty DAI need to last at all? Get a refund and buy a better RPG title that came out this Fall. Oh wait there isn't one.

Good. Dragon Age are story games. Combat is just filler.
Dragon Age are combat (and power-fantasy wish fulfillment) games. Story is just filler.

So you blatantly admit you bought this shitpile for the story? Christ man go read a fantasy book. Games are about gameplay not story.

I've been wondering about this since I don't touch consoles...

How do these last-gen PS3/XBox versions of modern games work? Do they just default all the settings to what would be lowest on PC, or dramatically change geometry of areas and shit?

500 megs of RAM doesn't sound like much to work with on old consoles when they're expecting 8GB on the PS4/PC versions.

My guess is different texture compression plus lack of the 34395925977293 layers of ultra quality pc games have these days.

Enemies re-spawn the moment you turn around, I think playing on anything other than normal and with tactical camera would result in me committing suicide.

Also ability system is kinda dull, it's not like you have BG2 spell selection...

Yeah, the underaged elf, who you can knock up and then she puts the kid away in a backpack. I'll take any cheesy porn dialog with ADULT characters over it. And the other romances were equally as creepy; you could hit on a recently widowed woman still in mourning, a nutcase with a sister-complex and the S&M drow (who was actuallly the only normal relationship in the game). BG2 had fun quests, fun magic system and (some) fun characters (Xzar&Monty), but the romances were 50 shades of creepiness.

Heh. Well, technically Aerie is 100+ ... so elven jailbait.

It's low investment, low return gaming, with everything that implies.

From what i could see of the xbox360 version, graphics take a huge hit and look much worse than PC on low settings.

Makes sense, probably just massive texture compression. Couldn't find any video footage of the last gen console versions, would be interesting to see exactly how bad it is.

I'm too fucking stupid to figure out how to quote correctly..

U WOT M8? Story plays a huge role in what makes games enjoyable.

Planescape torment, Arcanum, baldurs gate 2, etc. Gameplay is fine in some of those games but the story is what makes those games awesome... Imagine baldurs gate 2 without Irenicus or fallout without the master.

Hell... Bloodlines gameplay was Horrible but the story was the only thing that keep me going,

This is about Lords of the Fallen DRM, Denuvo, which is the exact same DA: I is using:

"Resource monitors for RAM and CPU consumption numbers, memory viewer for trying to figure out what makes it tick and track address issues, SSD analysis tools for those delicious dead blocks and data tracking
Wanna know average number of times parts of LotF exe code are fucked around between RAM and HDD in the span of one hour? 150000 copy/write iterations. That's about 10000 times more than usual. DRM constantly decrypts the game code into the memory and encrypts it back. This is the most bullshit usage of encryption software I've ever stumbled upon. And even though code chunks are quite small(couple of kilobytes per go at worst), they are all stored in one memory block. And playing the game for 4-8 hours(depends on SSD quality) means that you can say goodbye to that block."

That would be horrifying if I hadn't also read that Steam deletes your porn and Firefox is a botnet to farm bitcoins to fund CIA psy-ops to promote the idea of alien abductions to distract people from the Illuminati running the world from the shadows.

If it's true though, that's some shit.

Hell... Bloodlines gameplay was Horrible but the story was the only thing that keep me going,

First of all none of those games, baring Planescape torment, had a good story. They had a competent story (if that) backed up by good atmosphere and good/decent/challenging gameplay.

You will notice something interesting as well about all the title's you mentioned, none of them have a standard fantasy setting. Even the D&D title BG2 was bloated with ilithids, machinery, bizarre experiments by Irenicus in labs that suit sci fi, planar creatures and drow. It was so over the top that it more or less escaped fantasy cliches. More importantly though you miss the point, combat is not the only form of gameplay in any of the games you mentioned except for BG2.

BG2 - I highly doubt anyone could play through this 80 hour adventure if it wasn't for the diverse and entertaining magic system and loaded with monsters with unique effects. I for one couldn't care less about Irenicus, Imoen, the drow or thief guild (especially not for 80 hours with side trips). I just wanted to find the loot and to fight tougher demons and dragons.

Planescape: Torment - Amazing setting with unique GAMEPLAY mechanics backing up a unique story i.e. the dialog, character building ,equipment decisions ,party composition were the gameplay. The combat was crap sure but it's not the only thing you were doing.

Arcanum - Amazing setting, where once again what made it fun was not the fucking story :lol: the story had a twist, that's about all you can say about it. It was a fun game because you got to make choices about how to handle any situation i.e. use my skills to sneak in, fight, cast magic, build traps, diplomacy, a mixture of all of the above etc. The gameplay was in making decisions about your character that changed what he could or could not do, what items he could or could not use, the combat is not the main feature.

Vampire the Masquerade - See Arcanum

Fallout - See Arcanum

Notice as well that no one ever really says, if only the story was better this game would be awesome. The main complaint is always with the combat. The goddamned combat that everyone is desperate to dumb down and 'balance' while focusing on stories. FFS.

Point is games like Dragon Age have shitty gameplay and thus are shitty games. In Dragon Age all your choices only improve one thing, your ability to kill things, everything else is static. You know the outcome of everything that will happen. You will a.) kill it b.) sleep with it c.) walk away that's it, that's the gameplay. Being force fed a story suited for 14 year old girls (no matter how good) doesn't improve this.

Yeah, you are kinda right about gameplay and stuff... But decent character development and good writing is pretty important in some games.

Imagine if Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was written by bethesda or if bioware/Ea did a remake of Planescape...

Fallout 3 is a big example that not only gameplay is important.

Dragon age origins have decent combat but the gameplay is kinda meh.

The real problem lies with:
-Trash mobs
-Shit level design (Tower of mages/Fade)
-Crap story
-Shallow choice and consequences
-Generic medieval fantasy setting
-Characters motives are as deep as a puddle
-Crafting is shit
-Day-One DLC
-DLC shitfest

The big problem with this, as many other things as well, is how prominent you make it. A relatively "weak" story doesn't matter if you don't shove it in our faces. Crap 3D animation doesn't matter if you don't zoom on it. Character development and relationships don't feel so unrealistic if you don't spoon-feed everything all the time.

Unfortunately Bioware is an company that does all the mistakes at the same time.
