The game's sick dope, it's pretty much the only thing i've been playing for a while now. Feel free to add me on steam if you ever wanna play a few, my nickname is Wulf, I'm also in the codex steam group.

Agreed, haven't played much recently, barely started ToEE and play it maybe thrice a week. It has such good mechanics, graphics and just such a slick gameplay that nothing can rival it, especially when HoN is bloating with S2's shitty new heroes. Are there actually any other good dotalikes besides dota itself and HoN? All I've played are derpy "moba-games", gah. Nickname is Cenilix, add if you want to play though I don't consider myself pro in dota.

Man, I sometimes forget the farmfests that some games can end up being. Just today I had a game with Phanto (Zed) that ended up taking 60something minutes to finish. It was still fun, all in all.

EDIT: It seems the site I shared a few hours ago was a scam site, sorry 'bout that, I never really bothered giving it a better look, my bad.

So I got accepted into it (or it went to everyone and I never heard anything). DLing now.

Never played any Dota or stuff inspired by it. How would I start.

I believe it has bot capability -- I'd probably just start there to avoid having people rage at you in-game. Assuming you played Warcraft 3 it's basically just hero battles with a stream of AI mobs pushing each of the lanes. The main thing is controlling the flow of the lanes and putting more pressure on the enemy base. Other than that it's just a matter of learning all of the hero abilities and items which can take a while.

The bots are assholes even on easy, too. They don't work with you at all, but work together like soulless machines to gang up on you. Might be worth it to learn the very basics first though. Apparently they're going to do tutorials at some point but they're not implemented yet.

Bros, is there any guaranteed way to get into this beta? I've played hundreds of games of League of Legends and want to try the new (old) shit.

You could always play LoL. It's like DotA except less shit and actually comes with tutorials, bots that (sometimes) work with you, better sites to look up builds and strategies and more streamers.

Also, you'll piss off a bunch of DotAtards who'll be immensely butthurt that you reject their holy grail in favour of another product.

At the start, just select that you're completely new to the game and you'll be matched with the same lot.

Yeah it's a beta and they haven't implemented any tutorials or anything like that yet.

There is, however, game observation. You can spectate any game being played, live, in-game. That way you can watch/follow a player and see what they do, what items they buy, etc.

Lanes are the 3 main paths monsters spawned in the bases follow. Top, middle and bottom.

Ok, that's more helpful than just trying to figure things out through private matches with bots.

How are towers meant to be destroyed? Is it supposed to be an attrition kill through minons or are there heroes dedicated to it?

Eventually, minions will kill towers by themselves (as they grow stronger with time).
But you are really meant to kill towers with heroes+minions (called "pushes", or "tower push", or something similar). you usually do this when you have an advantage over your opponents (more heroes alive out on the field, stronger minions, or something). This is also a reason to always carry a Teleport scroll, to make sure you can defend when the enemy pushes.

Every lane works like this:
(F = friendly, E = enemy)
F Barracks -> F Tower -> F Tower -> F Tower |River| E Tower <- E Tower <- E Tower <- E Barracks

In order to destroy the enemy barracks you need to kill all towers on that lane first (the barracks are invincible until you do).
Killing all enemy barracks on all lanes is check mate because it's impossible to hold off elite mobs (well, generally).

Lane lane lane lane lane

Yeah, that's not helpful when I have absolutely ZERO know how on the game.

It would be patently obvious to anyone with an IQ above 12 what a 'lane' was after playing the game for all of five minutes.

I didn't play 5 mins of the game (I stoped playing the bot match when I realized I have 0 idea what I am doing) before asking that...

:bravo:

Also protip which worked well for me getting back in to DotA and probably would work well for you learning it, play Skeleton King. He only has one active ability so he's fairly straightforward. Also most likely buy items recommended to you by the shop, since my limited experience suggests that they're usually decent for whatever hero they're recommending them for.

nah, start with invoker, pugna and windrunner. if you become good with them you should easily "master" every other hero as well :D
