After a month long hiatus to play D3, which I have now quit, I made my glorious return to Dota2 with a come-from-behind victory playing Chaos Knight. I was on a team full of Brazilians too, which tells you how bad the other team must have been. Anyway, CK was pretty fun. Kind of like a tank/right-clicker hybrid. And his ultimate is sick for killing towers.

Chaos Knight is one of my favorite heroes. I've actually been getting spoiled with my favorite heroes lately. Brewmaster, Ogre Magi, Gyro, and Chaos Knight were all heroes I played a lot in Dota 1. The only hero I played very often who isn't in yet is Centaur, I think off the top of my head.

I went Wand -> Soul Ring -> Treads -> AC -> Heart -> BKB and I was about to finish Satanic when we won. Probably not exactly the recommended build but I'm a sucker for AC and I hate Armlet even though it's good.

That's pretty fine honestly. He benefits a lot from STR (since it makes his images better, so from level 16 you can kind of consider strength to have 3x the value). Soul ring and wand are necessary, treads are excellent because for the early game you can keep them on int (cast spells then switch to STR, it matters). Then whatever items you want that you need. BKB is almost always good, Heaven's Halberd, Armlet. You get Armlet before everything else besides soul ring if yo uare farming really well/getting fed, because a very early armlet Chaos Knight, when ganking, splatters his enemies on his windshield (turn it on before using ult, they benefit from the +25 str).

Some people recommend going mid and bottle instead of soul ring, but meeeeeeh. I think he's better in a dual lane.

Yes, he's one I'm looking forward to, however in reality I never really play him much. Same with Kotl and Visage. I love them and played them, but not nearly as often as the others.

The "Free" spot should just be replaced with teammate doesn't speak English, it's a given anymore with all the BRs and other South Americans that have flooded in. That or majority of your team is carries.

It really is strange, I have to say. Do North Americans not play Dota2 or something? Easily 4 out of the last 5 games I played have been majority Brazilians. How is that statistically possible?!

They don't seem to be as prevalent on US West, but seeing as that was down most of yesterday, I was swarmed by huehuehue and husahuahsuashusah.

So I decided I didn't want to wait for an invite anymore, so I went ahead and jewed my way in the beta by monetary means. Game is quite fun and better than LoL in almost every aspect. I find the interface and unit control somewhat unresponsive but I think that's something you'll get used to. Played one game against actual people so far and it was a pretty easy win even though I'm absolutely godawful at the game.

You must've been playing against me and my friends. One guy, he picked Tinker and at the end of 65 minutes had 2 bracers, str treads, vanguard, and an ultimate orb. Another friend, or "Air Pudge" as we like to call him, managed to throw hooks at right angles from the enemy and didn't even bother with the runes, tried to gank and died at level 3 after sitting in the forest for 2 minutes

It's weird that people at low level rarely ever go for runes. I've mostly been playing WR mid and most people I lane against never does. So far I've mostly been alternating between losing hard or carrying. Most games seem dependent on random shit like people disconnecting or ultra-feeding, I really want to get better so I can carry myself away from these retards.

Unfortunately, improving doesn't mean you get to play with better players. It means Valve's algorithm pairs you up with awful players to compensate for your newly found skill.

Going for runes depends on a lot of things. Which rune it is (if you know), if you have a bottle, if you have vision (time of day makes it easier to check the top rune at day without a ward), if the guy you're laning against can beat you to it or murder you 1v1 away from the lane, and where the creep wave is at. I almost never go for runes as huskar because I don't have a bottle and have to walk the whole way. If the enemy goes for them regularly they generally get underlevelled and farmed because it gives me a period of freefarm where I can aggressively take control of the lane by denying the right creeps or whatever and set them up so I'm on the top of the hill and can't be seen while last hitting. And huskar isn't a hero you want to let farm 2k in the first ~8 minutes or so.

Totally depends on the situation. You can get first blood and every rune and still lose the lane because your enemy out farmed you or you didn't cripple the right heroes with early ganks but your enemy did.

Unfortunately at my level people do always go for runes, and since I almost never solo middle (I don't have the confidence for it and I am always the only one who buys wards/courier so I play support, despite playing Dota for 4+ years my last hitting skills are still bad) it means one of my other friends does, and except for the one who always plays Furion none of them understand why rune control is important. If they do get a bottle, they buy bottle first.

I just won two satisfying wins with my friends today, and it was contingent on three facts:
1) The mass str item tinker player was not online and didn't play
2) air pudge picked good heroes and didn't go mid
3) Our pub solo mid players had a clue

I even fed first 3 kills of the game (due to lane-mate being drunk and not paying attention) and we ended up winning. It's fun to win against shit-talkers. Then they typically turn on their teammates in allchat.

A Nightstalker basically did well early on, but he didn't get a BKB so as a Shadow Demon I just kept him out of every fight. I bought a pipe to counter a Lich ult, and so I was just handling two of their heroes while everyone else wiped out the rest of their team. It was very satisfying.

Watching Na'Vi vs MTW right now - Na'Vi are so good. Well, by current "professional" dota standarts it means that they're just fine and it's everyone else who is bad, but nevermind - they're good. Even with slightly troll pick (tinker+balanar+weaver left them with, like, 3 carries, and you can't say that you see lina that often in EU metagame) and bad midgame resulting from it, they still can come back into the game with just the right decision - they know when to push and when to leave (that's really important - I cheer for them and for Darer, and what differentiates Na'Vi and Darer, apart from Artstyle's love for perverted experiments, is discipline - Darer lost g1 versus na'vi because they overslept and were clearly unready for the important game & game 2 they threw away since as soon as it started to look like they were winning their attacks became filled with recklesness and that's a fatal flaw in dota), they know exactly what items to get (that Eul in addition to hex on tinker was excellent - it's obvious that fighting 4 vs 5 is better than 5 vs 5, and note that I'm including the bear here - versus him it's usually 6 vs 5), they know the positioning flawlessly (the beauty of final fight where all of the Na've were extremely low and yet they've won it 4-1) and they can exploit opponents' mistakes to the fullest. To put it shortly, they're the only fucking team in dota whom games are worth watching.
