I love oldschool RPGs. I'm playing M&MVI Mandate of Heaven and Wizardry 8 right now.

That sounds like you simply do not like blobbers. How did you like M&M 3-5 or Wizardry 7?

True, but this is rather telling, isn't it ?
Yes, our top 10 RPGs has 6 Black Isle games, 3 Troika games and only one Obsidian, but we're all Obsdian fanboys.

Good job, newfag.
+M

*though my point was rather about what's not on that list - which is a single DOS game.

Lady Error is acting like a ridiculous fanboy (fangirl?) but all the same I'd rather not continue beating on this game, because, well, :deadhorse:

Bets on cancellation date?

That discussion was done to death in the original thread, but it's worth remembering the methodology of that poll, ie people voting for their top 50 RPGs and then total votes led to that top 10. So noone really thought Icewind Dale was a 'top 10 of all time' RPG, but it was played by a lot of people and ended up with many 'top 50' votes. Series like Gold Box and Wizardry suffered from votes split between titles in the series.

That twisted logic is the same that's getting people hyped over this kickstarter, I guess... Obsidian clearly is not the same as Black Isle, even if some ex-members are there, in the same way that this Kickstarter project is not the same as the company that released Realms of Arkania, even if Guido is there.

Idiocracy
I interpreted this as meaning the class is in everyones game (as a monster) but only the high backers can actually play as a nethermancer.

The regular backers will have access to it a few times throughout the game too. Read the update
Ah ok, after the complaints I see they've now changed it so all kickstarter backers get 2 or 3 uses of this 'very exciting tool' to get out of a 'truly sticky situation'. But higher level backers can play the whole game as this class = pay to win. In a game marketed as an old school RPG. So much for understanding your audience.

Unless the game is online only, that class is going to be hacked and made available for everyone in no time.

Some isolated newfag child does not Codex make.
True, but this is rather telling, isn't it ?

11- Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer 85
12 - Gothic II 78
13 - Jagged Alliance 2 69
14 - Icewind Dale II 66
15 - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords 65
16 - Betrayal at Krondor 64
17 - Wizardry 8 61
18 - Knights of the Chalice 60
19 - The Witcher 58
20 - Dark Sun: Shattered Lands 57
21 - Darklands 54
21 - System Shock 2 54
22 - Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven 53
23 - Wizardry: Crusaders of the Dark Savant 52
24 - Might and Magic World of Xeen 47
25 - Ultima VII: Part 1 The Black Gate 46
26 - Gothic 43
26 - The Elder Scrolls: Chapter II - Daggerfall 43

27 - Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss 42
28 - Realms of Arkania 2: Star Trail 41
29 - Wasteland 39

Only the fact that each and every other "best RPG evar" survey gets WORSE results sustains me.

Fuck you Infinitron. Arrogant asshole.

Yes, I want an oldschool blobber to succeed. That I have to defend this against two of the Codex staff is just ridiculous.

Guess who that is?

It really boggles the mind why he doesn't want to pimp out his past accomplishments more.

"Hi, my name is Guido Henkel, but you might know me better as this guy:

"

Sure, he was "just the producer" on PS:T, but I'm positive that simply showing that picture would bring in a bunch of pledges. I don't think he even mentioned Realms of Arkania in the pitch video! No wonder most people outside the Codex seem to have no idea who he is.

Fuck you. I am deeply fucking saddened that someone I know to have created good RPGs is unable to learn from the failure that was Thorvalla. You have to defend this because Guido is letting us down by not spending serious effort in accomodating the lessons he should have learned from Thorvalla. Not only that, but he is unable to understand criticism and responds to a lot of it with complete arrogance.

Maybe you should stop judging my motives and my character and just accept that we see things differently.

Oh do tell: which one is your favorite? Since you conveniently ignored my question about M&M 3-5 and Wiz7. Did you even play those?

Did you miss the fucking part where I went to Germany to interview the makers of M&MX: Legacy about how close it would end up being to M&MVI-VIII or World of Xeen? Do you think I would put in effort for this site and help out on retrospective interviews on old games if I didn't play them? Are you that fucking stupid?

The two of us disagree, so you somehow find it relevant to attack my "Codexian credibility?" You are a sad, sad panda, sir. "He dislikes a half-assed pitch and criticizes the concept - surely he must be an agent from the Watch!"

Contrary to you, I see the Codex as a haven for a critical approach to video games - not only to the video games "we" dislike. Guido's pitch is sad, he hasn't learned much Thorvalla (a much more interesting concept) and his arrogance seems to be intact.

Says the guy who wants others to be ashamed of themselves for backing an oldschool blobber.

The pitch is not the game. If you want the game to succeed, you pledge - with or without a perfect pitch.

Though it's pretty obvious that Codex is more of an "Obsidian fanboys" crown than oldschool crowd, so I can't say I share Lady Error's astonishment.

Yeah, nevermind the part where I dislike most of Obsidian's games. Jesus.

Yeah, the screens are cute, but do you really believe he can manage to pull this? A few months ago this was real-time, ffs. AND Guido wants to add a third-person tactical combat on top of it.

This has "Shadowrun Returns" written all over it.
