True on the flipping part. We were driving on the highway towards Berezino when a bridge sent us flying into the air, fortunately nothing happened. BTW, can you still run peeps over with the bike?

I never even tried. Too dangerous.

By the way, latest couple Beta patches (95724, 95777) seem to be causing bans. There are ban reports all over the place.

Here's a short review of DayZ for those who are interested in the game, but haven't tried it out yet.

lol at the bro team.

Try using your in-game VON to hook up with people. I suspect 99% of the time it will result in your death. After almost three months of playing and experiencing the evolution of this game I've only murdered three to five players (one was a team mate, wish I'd recorded it). I've occasionally yelled out, "I SEE YOU, LEAVE THE BUILDING AND DONT TURN AROUND OR I'LL KILL YOU". I generally avoid people when I see them and get the hell out although I've accidentally run into a few groups and blurted out "I'm Friendly!" and hung out with a cool squad for a few hours, more often you'll get shot. Remember, this is a social experiment to see what happens and how people behave. Expect to get shot or abused on the coast. Especially the two big cities. Or the wilderness, I've been mudered plenty of times in the middle of nowhere and never saw it coming.

I'm never on the coast for more than it takes me to run to the hills, you can hit up deer stands and barns with less fear up there. There are a lot of tips on the game in this thread, I believe most of what I posted is still relevant on page 7. Metalcraze posted a link to a good keyboard layout, the default seems fairly logical if you're a WASD kind of guy. I'm not so I've spent a lot of time refining my setup to work with both Arma and DayZ. If you're not used to moving around in an FPS go try COD or Quake3 or something to get used to it. I've been using the same key layout for over fifteen years and it's like an extension of my brain. Not sure how console people have it with all their different controllers over the years and slow motion twitch skills.

The important ones are movement including prone(z), crouched(x), stand(c) and sprint(???) as well as toggling fast/slow (shift). Zoom (right mouse), switch between semi/full/grenade/etc (f) and mouse scroll wheel for context sensitive commands such as climbing ladders, filling jerry cans, repairing cars or picking up special objects. And of course, (G) for Inventory. We won't talk about that though, everyone knows it sucks but it is functional once you get the hang of it. This game was never designed for this, you can see how it evolved just from looking at how it's been hacked together.

The rest you can mostly ignore until you get into Arma itself. Then you'll find this layout usefull.

There's probably a million other tips but the best is to just, discover it on your own. It's a wonderful and frustrating feeling being a virgin in this game. Some of most tense moments I've had in a video game for the last five years or so. Once you get the hang of it hook up with codexers. Some of us will help you out.

Nvm, farmed Berezino for an hour and one finally popped up. I actually benefitted from it all, as I had no idea those cardboard boxes were lootable.

There's usually a box behind the hospital in the corner under the ladder by the washing machine and one up top on the roof. You often don't need to break in if it's just a solo mission for yourself.

I must add that I'm butthurt over the microphone thing. I can't seem to get it to sound right even though it sounds fine to me when I test in Ventrilo.

I've found that sound settings have been a bitch in any version of windows for the last fifteen years or so. They are scattered all over the place and then you usually have some realtek drivers and software on top of it which makes it more of a hassle. I recently tripped over my cat and ripped both my speaker and mic wires right out of the jacks. Tried repairing with solder on older jacks that turn out to be useless because they were broken too at the same place. I'm without a mic until I can get up to the north end of the city a blow $2.88 on some nice metal jacks.

I'll try and help you get it setup though, it's just configuration and trial and error. Pain in the ass. The year is 2012 and Microsoft still can't get a half decent sound interface screen working right.

This is very true. I lost count of how many times I had problems configuring my microphone. I remember I made about a billion calls to that sound test lady in Skype only for it to turn out that I hooked up my front end jacks to a wrong audio chip on the MB. Every time I play with a friend there's at least 5 minutes of guessing why the hell their input device isn't transmitting.

BTW, maybe we could try to hold our hunger games this weekend?

Started playing today. I think I got the authentic DayZ experience in a neat package; started out with two assholes chasing me around shooting at me, bled to death after a zombie bite, found an axe in a barn and threw three flares out the window trying to equip/use it, and when I finally managed to and killed my first zombie I was shot by someone who saw my flares. This was followed by a far more successful hour of scavenging and zombie killing, then... this happened.

22:38 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: Welp
22:38 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: first DayZ hacker encounter
22:38 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: wandering around minding my own business
22:38 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: HONK HONK HONK
22:38 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: the fucking hacker party bus appears
22:38 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: forces me aboard
22:39 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: and starts teleporting around the map picking people up
22:39 - Corporal Babitz: how did he force you aboard
22:39 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: kept teleporting me back to the door of the bus
22:39 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: it was a truck at first
22:39 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: he spawned a bus after picking up 6-7 people
22:39 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: so I stole the truck and drove off
22:39 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: he teleported me out of the truck
22:39 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: and back to the bus
22:40 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: eventually I managed to eject as he teleported away
22:40 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: he was at it for about half an hour
22:40 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: honking
22:40 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: forever
22:40 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: I even escaped and filled up/stole a legit truck
22:40 - RIMJOBBERY MCFAGBALLS: I still got dragged back like a Fritzl child

To complete the experience, I eventually escaped alongside one female captive, who proceeded to try to shoot me with her shitty rifle thing. Probably because I was running at her with an axe. I won that one, at least. ClevelandMarkBlakemore is now (if he actually saved) wandering about with 3000 blood, eight shots of a bad rifle, and a hatchet he can't work out how to equip at the same time. Neanderthal vengeance will be his.

I also never ever encountered a hacker, at least not one so obvious. I must be doing something wrong.

Haven't played the game myself, but a friend of mine does, and he told me that hackers doing the teleportation shit was extremely common. He finally got into a private server yesterday (or the night before that, possibly) and was relieved of that shit, fortunately. Not sure what servers he was playing on, but I suspect that they would be european.
...I have never understood the joy of cheating when gaming. Subhuman scum, cheaters.
Also,
Probably because I was running at her with an axe. Neanderthal vengeance will be his.

1.7.2.5 is without a doubt the worst patch I have ever witnessed, aside maybe from the one in Joint Operations where all the vehicles disappeared. Nothing in the official changelog is working, the artifacts are even worse. What we did get however is a whole bunch of crap that nothing was said about.

For one, apparently Alt-F4 doesn't really work anymore, but that's probably uninentiona. My buddy is very fond of this method and each time he did it, when he logged back in he was dead.

Changing servers, or shutting down the game when it inevitably freezes on the loading screen throws you onto the shore somewhere. So yeah.

The entire hero/bandit system seems to be borked. Today some guy capped me on Guba and I respawned at Elektro. I now have the bandit skin for some reason, with zero humanity at the beginning. Even though I had no murders previously. Of course the entire thing seems pointless, as each change of clothing resets the counter.

The one good thing that I can say about the patch, is that zombie pathing is GREATLY improved. They now run at your speed and don't zig-zag or teleport around, so shooting them when they're pursuing you is a viable option.

Apart from that I had some really strange experiences today. After some guy killed me in the middle of nowhere I was making my way to Berezino, when something like this happened.

Of course I promptly logged the fuck off, expecting to be thrown into the air or something, but I guess this hacker was a pretty cool guy.

Later on I died again and landed near Balota, along with a buddy whom the server had placed there. A helicopter was flying overhead, mind you this was actually the first time I had ever seen one. My friend had an AS550 so when those guys landed he packed a couple of rounds into the rear gunner. Of course something strange happened and the gunner mowed him down with his minigun and they clumsily flew off.

Later on we were running towards the deerstands in the forest north of stary sobor, fleeing from some heli crash zombies, when a helicopter emerged from behind the southern hill and flying straight at us like some action movie. I made it for the cover of the trees, but him they blew up with a rocket. I spent the next 5 minutes scared shitless under a pine tree as they continued circling around the clearing, but thankfully they eventually flew off. All in all I had more contact with helis in one day, than I did for a whole month.

I doubt it could be done externally. It's probably in the base game itself as an easter egg or something.
