Turns out I won't need them after all. My blood is back to 12k as is my health.

I also just found out that the L85 has a built in IR laser. Using that with NVG makes is so you don't miss iron sights. Also useful for spotting for teammates during night. Best gun in the game.

Dean Hall said it will be Minecraft model

Which means:

Servers will not be official and standalone will never get finished hurrrrr

Lol, so true. But maybe he gets rich like that fat wank Noch, from the work the community made to fix his piece of shit coding.

Oh FFS, the hotfix for the graphical artifacts near military spawns has been transformed into a new patch entirely. Guess what's going in there? Dogs. That's right, dogs.
That's like Notch adding wolves as companions, right?

I guess next in line are robots (golems), alchemy (alchemy) and tinkering (enchantment). Huzzah!

Bros, a friend of mine, my girlfriend and her brother and nephew want to start up the game with me. They all play much more FPS games than me, so I will probably suck very hard, especially with the brief glance I gave the game and its controls. Any noob/beginner tips for me? Also for the others too, we want to play it in a group. Voicechat will be done via Skype ( yeah I know ) so atleast communication is set up. Thanks in advance!

There are two huge essays on this very topic on the previous page.;)

Thanks! I admit I havent looked there. I will read it first, train a bit in the Arma sandbox test mode thingy and incase I need something I ask again.

MetalCraze , I know, I suggested using Mumble or Ventrillo but they dont want to install a new program.

I watched/read countless tutorials as well as played the tutorial before DayZ and I still had no clue what was going on. The interface is shit and you're going to have to pay in blood in order to master it.

What? The controls were piss easy to get used to. The inventory is a bit fucked up, but nothing you won't manage after a few minutes.

Check the tips in this image. Ignore the bandit part as that is obsolete. Just shoot on sight.
One more thing is obsolete - you will spawn basically only with your clothes. Find some food, water and a gun ASAP. Buildings you can enter have windows you can see through.

Btw, the colt M1911 has been nerfed. Now it's basically a glorified Makarov. FFS. Looks like the PDW is the best sidearm now.

As said, I dont play many shooters these days, we played some Counter Strike and Call of Duty 1 multiplayer back in the day, but this was long ago. And obviously ARMA has a bit more sophisticated control schemes that I have to learn first, the others dont have that problem. The controls feel very clunky and unresponsive to me, especially this slow delay when you look around etc.

Thanks for the picture!

So, played a bit and the atmosphere is great, but this game has some serious issues.
First of all, until you grab hold of an axe, you are just meat. After you get the axe, you slaughter zombies by the dozen with a bit of method, since zombies for some reason don’t attack you, but run up to you, stop there for a second and THEN attack you. That delay is enough to knock them out without too much hassle. (Also, why does the axe sound like a ricocheting bullet?).
So after you have the axe, you pretty much walk into any place you want, axe down zombies ad grab what you need and go away undisturbed. On low population server this is especially true.
Second: the players. Shooting other humans on sight is not exactly (in my opinion) what a post-apoc society is all about. I don’t even care, because at most I’ve lost a couple bandages and an axe, but in my opinion one should get more penalties for killing other players.
For instance, I met this guy, bleeding, who ran into the building I was in, followed by 5/6 zombies, which I proceeded to hack down. I handed him a bandage and gave him my other axe. While the guy was bandaging, some other dude ran into the building and proceeded to shoot us. Now, if you’re in a post-apoc world, and you find a group, albeit small, of people cooperating, it makes much more sense to see if any mutual cooperation is more advantageous for the group, rather than killing random people with no weapons to steal some painkillers.
I’m not whining, it’s not like I ever lost anything great, I’ve been playing for like 2 days, but the whole idea that a post-apoc society is based on “shoot zombies, people, anything” is a bit silly.
The inventory is just stupid. Eventually you get used to it, but seriously, what the hell.
Apparently, zombies just spawn in random places at random times. I approached a small town from a road, and there was no zombie in sight. I approached a house, and checked all around it for zombies. Also, zombies are quite noisy, so I would have noticed if any of them were around me anywhere close, because of all the waaagh urrrrr they make. I was waiting for a couple of them to walk away from the entry of the house, and suddenly I’m being whacked by a zombie. It didn’t do any noise coming close (the typical screaming when they see you, or even the sound of the steps), and there it was, hitting me out of nowhere. Now, I doubt that some zombies are more “intelligent” and sneak up on you, so that zombie probably spawned right behind my ass, which is a bit silly.
Another problem seems to be with the “position” system. A lot of times, when a zombie is close to me and hitting me, I swing my axe right in their face, and somehow miss them. Same with guns. I aim at the head, shoot, and nothing happens. Shoot 4/5 shots and finally the damn thing goes down. I have around 50ms ping so I don’t think it’s a lag thing, I’m not sure what it is but I can assure you that the weapon’s “green” aim (yes, I play on noobs servers because I’m a noob) was right on their face, and I was being hit by them, so pretty close. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong but it just feels like a bit of a problem.
In other cases, I am whacking at a zombie with my axe, and the damn thing disappears. Just disappears, and then appears in a different position. Like, I was in a building, hitting this zombie, and he disappears. He then proceeds to reappear in the door behind me. Could be lag, ofc, but it’s just weird.
A couple questions: I’m not sure wtf was going on in the distance, is it possible that huge fires develop? Because it seemed like that in a playing session.
What servers do you people play on? To see how laggy/pingy it would be for me.
All in all, a fun game, but walking around for 1.5 hours looking for any kind of weapon is a bit silly. And when you do find that weapon, you become way OP. It’s like it’s 2 different games: before axe, where you are a survivor in a post-apoc zombie apocalypse world, and after axe, where you mow down zombies and become damn Rambo in a world of retards.

Axe is a recent addition exclusive to DayZ. It's the first melee weapon in any Bohemia game which is basically a script workaround. You need to use the axe in a server with crosshair to get a sense of how aiming works. Or maybe search for YouTube videos. I'm sure there will be one with axe in a crosshair-enabled server.

Zombies are client-side and only spawn around settlements and structures when you are close enough. They despawn when you leave the area. At times, zombies glitch and ignore you completely because they were spawned by another player. I suspect this might be due to low processing power of the other player's rig. Also, when another player approaches the same area, he will also trigger new zombie spawns and sometimes, the new ones will spawn next to you. If you are approaching an area and you see zombies in the distance, it means there is at least one player there. The maximum amount of zombie spawns due to a player is usually around 40 in most populated areas, which is spread fairly thin. More players, more zombies so if you see a lot of zombie activity in a short distance, you can tell there are multiple players.

Zombies can hit you over a distance and through walls. So if you are backed against a wall, a zombie outside can hit you and occasionally ghost through the walls.

Axe is great but beware, it will make you an easy target and don't trust players because they have an axe, perhaps even claiming they are unarmed. They will pull a gun the moment you look away. If the person claiming to be an unarmed noob has a macho stache with aviators, I advise shooting on sight :smug:

Really? I don't remember the last time I was able to climb down the ladder on AT towers, due to me sucking at finding the pixel. Refueling is also a pain.

Scroll down and move you mouse around the ladder area. It takes 0.5 seconds to get the "climb down" option.
Refueling is easy. For refilling the jerry can, move to the center of the tank and scroll down. To refuel the car, you have to be, gasp, at the back of it where the tank is.

This is mostly caused by the fact, that there is simply no incentive to team up with random players on the map. You don't really need the additional firepower when it comes to zombies and one extra guy isn't exactly going to make a difference when somebody ambushes you at Rog Castle. Seeing as the survival aspect of the game is pretty thin and it mostly comes down to gathering loot and perhaps PvP, there's simply no point.

Rocket has said that he plans to put in things like base building, working generators, power grids and radio stations in the game at some point, to make grouping up more important.

Oh and there is a consequence for being a rampaging murderer. If you kill enough dudes, other players will hear a faint heartbeat when they're looking at you. Villain here suffers from this condition. :smug:

Huh, maybe I need to be more patient. I still swear that the ATV's fuel tank must really be all over the place.

ATV consumes too much fuel. It's also easy to break it by flipping. Dump that piece of shit and get a bike or a bicycle.
