It plays nothing like typical FPSs. At times, it feels more like you're controlling a bipedal vehicle. But you grow into it. You cannot play this with typical FPS mentality. Yes, you basically need to get the jump on people, whether via an ambush or by tactical maneuvers. There is no run and gun in the sense we've been used to. Twitch skills help but aren't vital. Awareness, observation and patience are.

Don't bother with easy servers, they are the most dangerous due to players.

Don't mind the exploits and hacks, they are non-issues that only butthurt carebears BAW about. The only serious issue are the hackers who mass-insta-kill all people on a server and that's long been covered I think.

I've been mass server killed 3 times in the past 2 weeks. Game is getting hacked to shit, battleeye has to be the most useless piece of shit software ever created.

Blame server admins who don't enforce 1:1 mods on the server and client that allows anyone to load any game-altering mod. BattlEye will not do anything about this because it's not hacking.

Wow this shit is not working
ok, here's the deal
i bough arma 2 OA on the website
i downloaded
i installed it
i run it once as it says to do so
i installed the "beta patch"
I created the folder @dayz and the folder addons inside it
i launch it. It gives me an error saying that i require "addon ca-dubbing-counterattack" or some shit.
i am reading the forums but can't find a solution because apparently everyone is using the damn steam version
when i'm inside the game i do get the @dayz wording on the right side of the screen and i do get dayz in the "expansions" i can enable, but if i enable it and restart, it's still not active.
any idea?

ok, let me get this straight: i need to install "arma 2" normal and then "operation arrowhead" because that's only an add on? The download was about 6 giga, is it possible that it's 6 giga only for an expansion?

If you haven't bought ArmA 2 yet, you can actually avoid doing so, as DayZ is supposedly working fine on its F2P version.

yeah no i already bought everything on the website for like 30 bucks, i'm good with that.
so yes, apparently the problem was i only installed OA instead of the whole thing. should be working well now, i'll try it tomorrow morning or later this night after work
what's up with the loading screens anyway? they just stay there until you press something, or simply crash, not a very polished product this arma...

I got nothing like that.

Anyone got to try the new unofficial island, Lingor Island? Apparently, Russian modders have set up their own rogue HIVE on a cluster of custom tropical islands where you can enter all buildings. YouTube DayZ Lingor Island.

Took ~2,5 hours for a friend and me to meet, set up a tent, find it after we lost direction and get back to scavenging. We found a russian who wasn't talking/writing, just following us so I murdered him. Friend had found a boat before and we had fuel, we were crossing the road (it was night) when a car drove just past us. Nothing happened for a minute so I thought that we're okay. Then my friend starts yelling about 2 guys in gilly suits, next thing I know he's dead and I have broken legs. :dayz:

Let's go cause some mayhem, people! I'm packing enough firepower to fit equip an army. Name your weapon and I'll give you everything and we'll go merry-killing everything that moves.

I haven't had the chance, but from what I read it's suppposed to be overflowing with loot, making it piss easy.

EDIT: FINALLY, someone who understands the needs of the mature DayZ consumer. I'm more than willing to go on a killing spree villain, just name the time and place.

I'll try to make it if I'm not working. Should be able to get on sometime in there. I think I've only killed three people and one of them was my buddy by accident.
