So in your opinion fixing weapons as in DS2 is better than not having the option at all since you consider it a shit mechanic? Perhaps but as others have noted it looks like it will go back to the older style which came back for bloodborne

to reiterate something i already said multiple times, but for you it obviously bears repeating: i'm of the opinion that if a mechanic can be completely ignored for 99,99% of your playtime, then it's a shit mechanic and needs to be revised (or even removed). DaS2 did just that and made it better (i.e. it's an item stat that actually matters) even though it "sacrificed" the borderline irrelevant menu. now, if you don't want to provide even a shred of an argument for why durability and repair were better in the other games (hint: they weren't) other than "muh menu! muh miyazaki!" then please, just stop

Nah no point in providing arguments since the greatest argument of all was done by Miyazaki himself by going back to the old system on Bloodborne and it certainly looks like it on be the same for DS3

Miyazaki is also going back to the moronic, indefensible concept of the Maiden in Black (just to give one example out of many that are obvious from the trailers/preview builds) when the infinitely, immeasurably better option of leveling up at the bonfire exists, so far in fact that they're even pretty much copypasting her lines form DeS... but in your little brain he's infallible so your "argument" would be "but it's bettah! he did it! it has his blessing!". or you think that the BoC was an excellent, flawless boss because he approved it? not to mention Lost Izalith and Demon ruins, the pinnacles of level design...

I like the repair system since Demons Souls, he like the system too and he implemented it in all the Souls games where he has been in charge

Nah the only things that will carry over from DS2 will probably be the multiple hand slots, maybe the steamlined upgrade system and bonfire teleports from the start

The DS2 system felt like a change for the sake of changing stuff

Don't know their exact thinking (obviously) but I noticed (pre scholar) you only got reliable options to repair (spell + merchant) once you got to the Castle. Which is when most of the weapons with special attacks that used durability became available. At least I can't think of any except Smelter Sword, Dragonslayer Spear and Spider silk... tbh I never use those types of weapons so maybe I'm talking out of my ass lol.

Anyway, yeah. Point is that durability is like ammo or mana for a lot of weapons. So I guess that's why they don't get rid of it all together but obviously there seems to be differences of opinions in how else to use it/ how important it should be. It doesn't really trouble me either way tbh but I do like experimenting. I kinda wish B-Team(?) got their own franchise where they could play around with the mechanics/experiment a lot more.

Yeah what it sounds from interviews is that Miyasaki is going to develop new ideas and even resurect stuff like Armired Core and Tenchu, the B team could certainly do well on those. It is understndable given the auteur philosphy at From and the size of the company they seems to do one or two prijects at a time and while I dont feel burned at all with Souls games it would be really nice for them to take a break to develop stuff like Tenchu again or perhaps simultaneous development for different new and old franchises and ideas

I'd kill for a scifi Souls-type game set in a decaying universe. Stuck on the last habitable planet circling a dying sun. Derelict ships from a hundred different civilizations dot the landscape.

Mmm very interesting idea The Decline; seeing the new bow mechanics -adapting the gameplay to be more gun centric something like that would be very interesting indeed.
Too bad the current souls games are very unmod friendly, maybe if they were done in Unreal then total conversions could de done too

Did they make the original Tenchu? I really enjoyed that. Wondered what happened to it. Yeah that would be pretty cool. I really liked tying i-frames to a stat. Thought that was really interesting and am interested if it could work with parry frames/recovery time etc. I'd also like to see customisable movesets or being able to switch between movesets in the same way a mage switches spells. One thing that pisses me off about DS2 is how enemies often have cooler movesets than the player. Stone statues in the castle etc.

Yup they made at least the first 3 Tenchus, my favorite was the 2nd and replaying the levels trying to get the best scores to get the best bonus items like the poisoned food, darts and caltrops. Updating the first games with the engine they are using for DS3 would be just enough and adding competent combat controls (easily the worst part of those games) would make for a heck of a return for the series
And about the ranged combat for a scifi game, I dont think FP are the best shooters nowadays anyway and fornan example on how it is done you would just need to see the last Armored Corr games

Like I said, they could handwave it and just make it closer to what they usually do. Emphasis on melee with a few ranged options. I'd really just like to see what they could do to make it more than just a reskin.

lack of resources for gunpowder or any kind of other propellant.
lack of knowledge which is now lost (but some artifact guns with few shots still can be found)

there are multiple ways to deal with this stuff.

Love to see the return of the luck stat; it is truly as if they had taken all the best features of the older games into this one. Now all stats have relevance again (as in Demons Souls) and this looks oh so sweet I can wait for April
