Which ones? i took a quick look and there's not a lot of commentary/explanation going on?

Any of them! You don't really need much comentary, just look at his equipment and perk choices, and especially, look at how he moves his brothers on the battlefield, always making sure three or four of them surround the enemy before attacking, so that all attacks get a bonus.

His Black Eagle series is made with the last beta, and the Codex Volunteers ( :obviously: ) series he's just started is made with the released games, so those two are probably the most applicable to BB right now.

You can also go to BB's wiki. There's a section of builds and the "New Order Company", written also by him, that explain also a bit about perk selection. It's a bit outdated I think (I don't know if it has been updated for release), but there are good pointers there to start things going.

I really need to start retreating more. I always think that I can somehow salvage the situation and end up getting wiped and its game over. Sure gets harder when you bump up the difficulty. I am on my 5th new game now :D

"Its not that many orcs" Famous last words..

I am on contract right now but on the way have brutal fight against Raiders and lost one man(1st turn one shot - dead), they also beat my guys pretty heavy and it was close call for many brothers. Damn these Marksmen are brutal.
Short on tools and medical supplies. Still have some coins to buy it so its not that bad. And loot to sell.
I think protection season for the early companies just end.
Will continue.

So when you guys are first starting what do you do? I ask because I can never find decent contracts it's always "Go to this crypt full of skeletons" or "Take this cargo far, far away for very little money". I can't seem to progress at all. Also, for some odd reason, dudes don't fall on spears like they do in Sarissofoi's videos...

Stupid question: did you activate Spearwall? (Even then, you still have to make a successful attack)

Also don't forget trading and look for weaker groups of enemies or join fights to get some loot.

I turned the Unstoppable Lenin Sex Orchestra into a dance company. I.e. everybody gets Rotation. My fatalities dropped like a rock, as now I can get a bro out of trouble much, much more easily than before. What's more, I can do more damage especially on congested maps: once the bro in the frontline has finished his turn, a bro behind him can rotate into place and punch once more. Best perk!

Yeah I activate it but they just avoid it even when I try to time it.

As for trading, yeah I am not sure how to trade since there isn't really any explanation in the game which towns are looking for what and most of my money goes towards equipment as of right now...

Noticed. Just do not whine if you die in first battle.
Gonna recruit first Killer I find and name him Golgo.

Positioning is the key. Also having range advantage so enemy will rush you and if not you can paper them with arrows longer. Try to position your spearmen like 1 tile from enemy so they move into spearwall few times. And remember if enemy can move and attack somebody else they probably will.
Spears also work well as 'do not move here' denial weapon or 'do not move here, attack this guy instead who do not have spearwall activated'. Also high melee skill is essential for profesional Spearman.

1. Different towns will produce trade goods--you can see their production facilities on the overworld map (mines, vineyards, etc.) and you should see a regular supply of whatever they produce locally. I'd only buy trade goods here. Trade goods are pretty easy to identify, although some provisions like wine will be consumed as well as serving as tradegoods.
2. Sell all goods in large cities, the larger the better. Both buying and selling prices are higher in these places. As long as the selling destination doesn't produce the good in question, you'll get a good deal.
3. Reputation matters a lot. The higher your reputation/relationship with a particular town, the dearer they'll buy and the lower they'll sell.
4. Optimal strategy is developing maximum relationship (allied) with one large town that has smiths (weapon, armour, whatever you like to buy) so that you can sell your stuff there and buy items you need and to get to allied with one to two villages that produce trade goods near by. Doing a run from those small towns to the large city about once a week will net you decent returns. (Also do contracts to dispel town maluses as necessary--you don't want to buy from a town that has raided trade routes, for example).
5. In practice, you'll be fine if you just buy trade goods when they're close to or below their suggested price and holding them until you can offload them in a big city that likes you. Don't invest too much money in goods, though, since you'll still be paying wages.

Game is great. Still butthurt about so much information being hidden from you but eh.

Definitely hate goblins the most, annoying buggers.

So...my go-to tool for recording stuff (shadowplay) doesn't recognize Battle Brothers as a game. It simply refuses to start recording. Any idea whether the problem is on your end or Nvidia's end? rapsdjff ?

Just alt tab, start record then alt tab back in again. You have to cut the desktop recording away though in some program if you don't wanna show it.

Is it possible to come back from an almost TPK? Or do you fall behind in money, skills, equipment so much that you can't keep up with the enemy force levels?

Depends. Six levelled guys in reserve and 5,000 gold? You'll manage. One guy and 30,000? Maybe. One and broke? Might as well retire.

How bad is it?
It would depend on your coin reserve and what kind of gear stocked up in your cart.
Padded leather is just 200-300 gold ea.
A pitchfork/mainhander is like 150 gold
So you need at least 600 per merc you replace.
You can get back on track if you cherry pick contracts.
But don't expect it to be easy.

Also, future tip: Clicking the little white flag at the upper right will let you abandon the fight with all currently alive bros taking a (non-fatal, temporary) injury. If it looks like things are about to take a turn for the terrible, you can cut your losses this way. It's not cheap to recover from, but it's generally better than losing bros you've invested in. Using it lets you avoid TPKs and indeed losing more than a few bros in a single fight.

If you still have specialist alive(sergeant/bannerman, archers) and spare equipment and cash then you can always go hunt hostile hunters as their force is usually capped not so high(especially goblin wolfriders if you have some twohanders left alive or orcs if you have archers). Or you can start raiding faction supply wagons and caravans.
YOU CAN ATTACK ANYTHING WITH CTRL.
Also you will notice that enemy suddenly start dropping in strength and numbers. So enemy tiers/numbers are tied to yours but it can be also infamous PERSONAL BIAS so who really knows.

Retreating in this way used to kill half the team. For me its feel like exploit right now. Its like a patch for imperfect retreat/withdraw system and lacking formations/deployment phase. Something that player can use to counter bad RNG in terrain, 1st turn enemy fire or his own mistakes, enemy with wardogs and on high ground ranged(so you get tied and decimated by death from above). Still its feel cheap.

I notice the same thing, although I too might be suffering from confirmation bias. I thought it was tied to company renown, but rapsdjff has said it doesn't scale. Maybe we could get some clarification?

Good luck to get any info from OverNerf. Their obscure information in game by design. I wonder if its main reason why they compile text files so there probably be not mod support ever.
But I will buy you beer if you manage that.

BTW you know what impresses me most about this game?

The AI.

It's not that it's murderously good -- although it actually kind of is, for AI, dodgy sniper behaviour notwithstanding -- but it has tons of flavour. Different enemies behave in different ways. Wolves just zerg rush you and turn their tail if you hit back hard enough. Wiedergangers march mindlessly into your spearwalls. Nachzehrers stop to feed to heal and buff up. Goblin wolfriders circle around. And bandits might form a defensive line, or outflank you, or whatever.

At times it feels like I'm fighting enemies with a personality, and that's very rare for AI.
