Remember this SJW turd had $80 mil budget

I was going to ask for a source on this, but then I remembered Microsoft's willing to pour out any amount of good money after the bad one goes down the drain when it comes to Gamepass. So yeah, sure, 80 million. Why not.

150m on Avowed you reckon?
The game budget is probably around 100+ million. 5 year dev time with expensive blue hair devs eats up money.3+years of aaa dev will eat up 50+mill easily. And i am being generous with that figure because Microsoft probably paid peanuts for marketing.

It's nice that you're honest enough to put yourself in the sub-55 IQ range, I'm sure that wasn't a mixup on your part or anything. Woopsie.

Welcome to the future of Unreal 5 RPGs. It might look pretty, but the engine won't be used more than a backdrop - interaction not allowed. Forget a good script to compensate, since the writing team will consist of feminists or mad progressive cannibals that can't write themselves out of a wet paper bag and ChatGPT.

Microsoft has been marketing this game for a year already, doing regular livestreams and even had a billboard in times square. There is a good chance the marketing budget is more than the production budget.

I’m a bit confused by the angle “Stop forcing unfavourable comparisons on the game and appreciate it for what it is”.

Well, what it is if not dumb, dull, ugly and uninteresting?
Show me where I used the word "appreciate." I said judge it as a failure on its own merits.

A lot of you people have terrible reading comprehension.

Name games not using Bethbryo released in the past ten years that aren't. Far as I'm concerned this is braindead criticism.
Jagged Alliance 3, nigger, you could smash through damn near anything with the right caliber bullet- probably made on Unity. Baldur's fucking Gate 3, where you could pick and move damned near anything- a fucking custom engine.
JA3 and Larian both use custom engines, not Unreal. They also don't have complete feature parity with Oblivion (neither have dynamic day/night cycles), understandable given that they're not trying to do the exact same thing. Aside from the grumbling of the diehards who remain incredibly angry that Swen still refuses to do NPC schedules.

Did they make UE5?
They made their tools for it.

But the writing can not be excused in any way. It feels written by people who have no read a proper novel in their life, let alone studied literature. At this point game "writers" and "journalists" are the biggest quack professions I can think of.
There's definitely been a brain drain with regard to writing in the entire entertainment industry.

What pisses me off is how people are willing to excuse things like this too, as if they "don't matter". They do. If they aren't paying attention to the details then they are showing that they clearly don't give a shit. For a game like Avowed to have no basic item physics and hit collision is ridiculous and they should be mocked for that as much as for anything else.
If Avowed were recreated in Skyrim's Creation Kit would it suddenly be a totally awesome great game? Nope. Therefore none of this shit matters.

Go suck Starfield's schlong. Bethesda really showed us they cared about that one, didn't they?

Looks all right, notice that this is an action game of reduced scope oriented entirely around this feature.

Alright, that's valid, but the funny thing is that Roguey didn't bring this up in the game's defense when I mentioned AC: Origins. He could easily have said "Avowed actually does this", but instead he said "Ubisoft had more money and a better engine, so they could do what Avowed doesn't!"

I didn't know about this because I only saw the comparison videos. But Roguey should have known, had he actually played the game he defends so much...
Why on Earth would I want to pay $90 or even $70 to play Avowed?

Speaking of this, Fallout and Arcanum actually did follow the "immersive sim design philosophy" as Roguey put it (and Vince not doing so is why AoD and Colony Ship feel so radically different from Fallout despite being inspired by it).
There's an amount of it, but no, not entirely, they're hybrid games. The "dynamite the radscorpion cave" solution is a prime example of why Fallout isn't an immersive sim. That's a purely script-based solution put there by the designer in just that specific location. If you could do that kind of thing to every cave entrance, it'd be a sim. Passing speech checks don't adhere to the immersive sim design philosophy either. Morrowind with its disposition system, Oblivion with its crappy persuasion minigame? That was a purely im sim approach to speech.

Fwiw in 2021 a leaker said avowed had around 100 people working on it not including contractors. That number probably grew during development.

Look at the body language of the Asoyed faggot "art" director (on the right), (this is the guy who created the fishnigger as his self-insert by the way), talking to a nigger "game journalist" or whatever... really can't contain himself, wants to jump on the nigger and tongue his xaurip, if you catch my drift. Faggot game made by faggot people, played by faggots AND FAGGOTS ONLY, no exceptions - what a sad state of gaming!
he just looks like someone's dad

Yes, there is an amount. Which is the entire point, because there is no amount of it in Avowed.
Carrie is a modern Biodrone and her inspirations are Dragon Age and Mass Effect, as Feargus noted in an interview I posted earlier. She makes games the way a person like her engages with them. She thought Planescape Torment sucked, but she liked Shadowrun Hong Kong.

Avowed Is Available Now – Your Journey Awaits
Avowed is out now!
The wait is finally over—Avowed, Obsidian Entertainment’s highly anticipated fantasy RPG has officially launched! Step into the breathtaking Living Lands, a wild and mysterious island located in the Pillars of Eternity world of Eora, and embark on a journey filled with danger, discovery, and adventure.

A Land in Turmoil

The Living Lands is a frontier unlike any other. This rugged and untamed island has become a haven for exiles, dreamers, and adventurers seeking a fresh start. Its vibrant regions and scattered settlements pulse with life, each hiding untold stories and ancient secrets waiting to be uncovered.

But this land of promise is fraught with peril. The Dreamscourge, a devastating soul-plague, is driving settlers to madness and turning them against one another. The very land itself resists colonization, haunted by echoes of lives long past. As an envoy chosen by a foreign emperor and blessed by a mysterious god, you are thrust into the heart of this chaos. With divine powers at your fingertips and the will to shape your own destiny, you’ll confront ancient threats, unravel mysteries, and decide the fate of the Living Lands. Will you unite its people or watch as their struggles tear them apart? The choices you make will define the future of the Living Lands—and the person you become.

Forge Your Own Path

In Avowed, the power of choice is yours. Create a character and shape your playstyle with four expansive skill trees—Fighter, Ranger, Wizard, and Godlike. Whether you’re a stealthy sniper armed with dual pistols and a longbow or a spell-slinging barbarian wielding an axe and a grimoire, the possibilities are endless. Your choices define who you are and how you’ll tackle the challenges ahead.

But you’re not alone on this journey. Your companions each bring their own skills, personalities, and deeply personal stories:

  • Kai, the steadfast protector, whose calm demeanor and unwavering loyalty make him a dependable shield in battle.
  • Giatta, a brilliant animancer scientist, whose relentless curiosity drives her to uncover the mysteries of the Dreamscourge, even at great personal risk.
  • Marius, a lone-wolf hunter, whose sharp wit and tracking expertise make him an invaluable ally in the wilderness.
  • Yatzli, a fiery Godless expert, harnessing explosive magic and a rebellious spirit. Her disdain for the gods adds complexity to her character and your choices.

Their history, relationships, and perspectives intertwine with your story, adding depth and weight to every decision you make. Will you earn their trust, challenge their beliefs, or forge something more profound? How you guide your companions—and how they influence you—shapes the adventure in unexpected ways.

Your Living Lands, Your Way

Avowed is a game built to immerse you in its world. The Living Lands is a sprawling playground for adventurers, rewarding exploration at every turn. Traverse rugged cliffs, wade through winding rivers, and uncover unique hidden treasures—from ancient elemental weapons to fragments of God Shrine Totems that come together creating powerful new abilities.

Combat is equally immersive, offering a seamless blend of magic, melee, and ranged attacks. Unleash shockwaves with Grimoire Snap, trade health for devastating power with Blood Magic, wield weapons you have upgraded and enchanted, or mix and match abilities to create a playstyle that’s entirely your own. Every encounter is an opportunity to experiment, strategize, and push the boundaries of you and your companions potentials.

At the heart of Avowed lies its dedication to player choice. Inspired by the freedom of tabletop RPGs, the game puts the power in your hands. Your decisions ripple across the Living Lands, shaping alliances, influencing factions, and determining the fate of your companions. Whether you negotiate peace, spark conflict, or carve your own path through the chaos, your actions leave a lasting impact on the world of Eora.

This seamless blend of storytelling, exploration, and creativity makes Avowed an unforgettable RPG experience, offering an experience where every choice matters and every discovery feels personal.

So, one month of gamepass. Even if you didnt want to pay for early access you will play it today, right... right?
It's buggy and suffers from poor performance, the perk of waiting is that the version I play will be heavily patched.

They already delayed Avowed to patch it......... the problem is that the game is made on Unreal Engine 5 which is a fucking piece of shit. And Obsidian doesn't possess the talent to deal with that engine. So don't expect much difference even after the game is "heavily patched".
